If you map the songs on I Robot to the short stories in the Asimov book, as you might if you were a teenager on a boring night with your buds, "The Voice" maps onto a story called "Robbie." Robbie is a mute robot nurse/babysitter (nurse in the Mary Poppins sense) much beloved of a certain child, but the mute robots are all being replaced with robots that can talk (shift/advancement in technology). So literally "the voice" is coming to get Robbie. Of course all ends well and Robbie is returned to his little man. But it's amazing that Parsons and Woolfson could take such a simple idea and spin it into something so different and so compelling.

Thanks for that information. Great to know. Clearly it was a winning idea to create an album around those works of literature. Excited for the rest of the album! Thanks..

Both of these work even better in the context of the albums they come from( due to both albums being concept albums). As always with APP, superior performances/engineering/production. Superb, also per usual. APP with lunch?! Yes, that works well

The middle section of "The Voice" was like a Sound System Check for me, played at 10 volume, like being run over by a Bullet Train. The next Instrumental "Nucleus" +"Day After Day" played at 10 volume is like your listening to music in an Amphitheater as big as a Continent. "Days Are Numbers" is another favorite of mine you will get to eventually. 😁 Thanks Brandon.

Sir... I haven't seen a tear fall down your cheek in a while, so I'm going to help to make that happen again LOL. VANGELIS, deep, majestic, beautiful and HIGHLY emotional versions of the same composition, from 1979 Opera Sauvage album... "Hymne" which is, for me, the PERFECT music to play at the entrance of the bride and groom in a church and, from 1996 Portraits album "Hymn A La Femme" which is more elaborate and spectacular symphonic version that includes majestic choirs in the final minutes that will make you cry.

I love how Woolfson and Parsons convey emotions through music and Voice is a great example of paranoia. The Gold Bug is also a great example, but for obsession and curiosity. It's my understanding that the synth voices were made using a device called a vocoder So yes Brandon, if you weren't paranoid already, the synths really were speaking to you!😮 The Gold Bug is the opening instrumental to sideB of the album and introduces A Turn of a Friendly Card suite. I interpret it as the character has finally come to Las Vegas seeking fortune and is seduced by the glitz and glamour. Thanks for reacting.

And speaking of classic instrumentals, be sure to check out "Zero To Sixty In Five" by Pablo Cruise. (The song title relates to the fact that it is exactly 5 minutes long.) And watch out for that string section - whoa ! I rank it right up there with "Fire On High" by E.L.O. Pablo Cruise is one of my favorite 70's bands. They are from SF, and their hits include "Love Will Find A Way" and "Whatcha Gonna Do", among others with great vocals. Enjoy.

WAIT! So did Alan Parsons have anything to do with the soundtrack for Shaft? Chord progressions in A part of The Voice are identical to the theme from Shaft.
@retroreactions....
@retroreactions.... Ай бұрын
Yes, that Shaft theme is 1 that came to mind when I was listening. It looks as if Alan did not have anything to do with the 1971 movie. Here is a little info I found: After recording the music that would be used in the film in Culver City, CA, Isaac Hayes returned to Memphis and the familiar confines of the Stax studios to re-record the songs from Shaft. It would be those later recordings that would be released in 1971 as “Music from the Soundtrack.” The original versions of the songs used in the film wouldn’t see the light of day in any form until 2008, when they appeared as part of a limited-edition Shaft box set now out of print. It’s taken nearly 50 years, but finally both the music from the film and the later recordings used for the soundtrack can be heard together in a 2-disc package.

I really like your reaction to the Gold Bug instrumental and all your past APProject songs. Have you reacted to any songs off the Eve release by APProject? There are two great instrumentals on that release called Lucifer and Secret Garden. I really liked Eve when it was released as it was a different type of APProject release with a lot of female vocals as it is about women's strengths and weaknesses.

Thank you so much, glad you enjoyed! I have unintentionally stayed away from Eve, I think it's past time to explore it. 3 songs from that one (Lucifer, Damned if I Do, & Secret Garden) are on my short list of about 12, so hopefully pretty soon! 😀

Neither of the two songs are among my favorites from these splendid albums, even so they are very good. You still have a lot of good music to discover from APP, I think an album you haven't played yet is Vulture Culture which has sensational songs. The best one anyway for me is Freudiana, a masterpiece that the project's creator, Eric Woolfson, gave his name to and then turned into a rock opera.

Gems! I always liked them, on the voice the vocoder is so cool 😎 Orchestra maestria in the bridge and also a string machine and that ominous hypnotic bass line, later I could recognize a Wurlizer electric piano heavy with effects, and a wah pedal probably. This instrument was so used in the late 70's (well Supertramp and Pink Floyd) you can't escape the Voice! The Gold Bug was another wonderful instrumental experiment, you can feel coming in each instruments and layer, Alan was a maestro remixer. That structure is also obvious, great inspiration, finally there are a lot of voices for an instrumental, but were acting like instruments. Sorry! I came late, as usual. Time shift from Europa ! Best Brandon 🙏

Hello Wendi. Well, unlike the majority of reaction channels (since I grew up in the 80s and was really into music by 1981), I already know many of the big hits by many of the bands on my channel. Since this is 99% a first time reaction channel, I can't really do those big songs. I realize that this has likely hurt view counts and the growth of my channel in general, but I would never lie and pretend I haven't heard a super famous song. I do often try to pick the biggest songs for bands that I'm not familiar with at all. But for me, some of the most rewarding experiences here have come from the more unknown deep album cuts, like The Voice. Thanks for watching and for sharing your thoughts..A couple of others have suggested me reviewing songs I already know, so I will keep that in my mind...🙂
