In June 1967, the Beatles were asked to represent Britain in the world's first global satellite TV show, broadcast live to 19 countries and an audience of 700 million viewers. For the occasion, John Lennon (and the other Beatles) very much wanted to deliver a message to the world that was simple enough to be translated into every language in the world. The result was the song "All You Need Is Love."
@Andytheashton3 жыл бұрын
I know a guy who went to abbey road when they were writing this song and it was going global on the sunday (he went there on Thursday). At this point all they’d written was ‘love love love’. He was having a cigarette outside with Lennon and paul came out and said “john, come on. We’re going live on tv and it’s not even nearly finished” John said “stop worrying. We’ve got a few days yet. I’ll write the rest of it later on” Amazing

The fragment of the Marseillaise at the beginning makes sense in that context, even The Beatles were capable of sticking it to the French! I do believe that the chyron on the screen simply said "Abbey Road Studios, London". Not "UK", not "The Beatles". How cool is that? In among all the footage of trams in South Melbourne and the construction of the Tokyo subway system The Beatles shared with the world a beautiful song that will likely live as long as civilisation survives. It is quite something,

I was 8 years old and wondered why everybody around me were waiting so patiently at the TV when there was no signal. Then, The Beatles are there on the screen playing this song. I had no clue who they were and way too young to appreciate their music. In truth their music was always all around me. Later on, I saw this video and remembered.

Love your reaction! The Beatles made this song on 1967, when the whole peace and love, flower power movement was becoming popular. There's a great video of this song showing The Beatles in the recording studio making this recording. It's a wonderful, festive video: you see the Beatles in there surrounded by an orchestra and lots of friends and colleagues, including Mick Jagger, Eric Clapton, Graham Nash and Keith Moon. I think you've got the meaning pretty well. The lyrics say that we can do anything, there's nothing that can't be done, we can save ourselves and everyone. We are meant to be here right now, we are special. We can do all this if we come together in love. It's exactly what Jesus was preaching all those years ago! Sorry, I'm a deacon, so this is taking me right back to church. I agree, "Here Comes The Sun" would be another wonderful Beatles song to react to! Especially with it being springtime!

@@billythedog-309 That is why the Marseillaise at the beginning is such a good joke. I think only Britain could have done that. If the French had put up France Gall or Serge Gainsbourg (don't worry, they didn't; De Gaulle would have had a fit) and their song had begun with the opening bars of God Save The Queen it would have been seen as a massive diss, but that is, in effect, what The Beatles do here.
