Heard the Doobie Brothers when they first came out. Went to friends house after school and he had just bought their album. His folks at work and smoking a big hooter.. Soon the song Jesus is Just Alright came on. We all start praying to God! Thank you Jesus!

The Doobies are mostly Christian dudes. Not all of their music is "spiritual" in nature, but they don't shy away from talking about Christ. They have a huge hit song called "Jesus is just alright," from the early 80s, I think. "China Grove" is a total Rocker you should react to as well. The Doobie Bros. were one of the biggest "Classic Rock" bands in the world, from the early 70s throughout the 80s. Great music.

Only Michael Mcdonald and The Doobie Brothers could sound like a black choir lol, that's crazy. Recently I found videos of my mom singing in a choir(black choir because we are black) and it's from the 1986. It was pretty lit to see my at my age. She was born I'm 1964 so in 1986 she was 22. And I'm 22 now. Also in the late 70s or early 80s my mom's church put out a vinyl record or the different choirs singing different songs and they actually sold quite a bit around town. I haven't gone to church in a while but yeah black church be loud as heck. I find the Reverand is louder than the choir most times lol. On an unrelated note, react to The Rapper Classified. Great Canadian Rapper, been doing it since the 90s. Was a big artist in Canada in the 2000s and continues to be somewhat popular

Michael McDonald joined the band five years after the band started from 1975-82. He moved around to different bands like Steely Dan. I think he changed their sound from country rock to soul, which is okay but I loved their country rock. Please try some songs they did before and after McDonald. My favorite is Black Water. If you go to Doobie Brothers KZbin, they recently recorded Black Water virtually, each from their own homes. Very cool.

MM was with Steely Dan before the Doobie Brothers. Jeff Baxter left Steely Dan to join the Doobies and recommended MM after the Doobie Brothers lead singer Tom Johnston became ill. As far as country rock? Not really. More rock and motown based R&B. Black water and Listen to the music did have some country influences. MM made them more R&B, keyboeard driven. They had tremendous success with MM and won multiple Grammys for the album Minute by Minute as well as the song What a fool believes. Both versions of Doobies were phenomenal.

Part of the exuberance displayed at churches has to do with the denomination of the church. Catholics tend to be more reserved/solemn while Baptists are more active/vocal. Lutherans are somewhere in between, etc.

Speaking of 1999, there is a great song by Prince called "1999" that you would enjoy, at least I think you would. About white churches, it depends on the denomination. Most Baptist churches are pretty reserved. Pentecostal churches on the other hand can get loud when the Holy Spirit is moving. I grew up Baptist and it took me a bit to get used to my husband's Pentecostal church atmosphere. I don't think any white church can compare to a black church when it comes to being in the Spirit though. You should react to Elvis and the Black Community. He was a part of the black style of worship. Sorry for being so long winded. You just brought up some things that I thought you'd be interested in.

She was right. It is a "church song". I'm 52, and I've never read the lyrics to this song before. I noticed the word him begin with a capital letter h, which usually means the subject is Jesus. The Bible verse in the middle of the video also tipped me off that this was a religious song.

It's Church because it's roots are from the origins of black southern soul Begining in the 60's black groups weren't able to go on TV or radio let alone play in venues where the people were...even though their biggest fans were white.... throughout these years band like this and the explosion from the UK is what gave black artists a road into mainstream. LONDON GERMANY & UK weren't racist. Beatles Stones and most were big fans of America's black artists and put their songs on their records
