Quintessential California sound, the seamy "dark side," or shadow to the lighter sensibilities of the music of the Beach Boys, both great American bands and integral to the timeline. RIP Jim and Ray.
@larrywt6563 жыл бұрын
Yes, this song and Riders On The Storm are both from the masterpiece L.A. Woman album, the last to feature Jim Morrison before his death. One of my all-time favorite albums, and my very favorite Doors song. This was one of Jim's poems. It's not about a woman, it's about the city of Los Angeles, with Jim comparing the city to a woman who's seen more than her share of action in her life. The line in this song is not "riding", it's Mr. Mojo Risin'. If you re-arrange the letters in those three words, you get "Jim Morrison", so that part of the song was about himself.

This is why The Doors are one of the greatest rock bands of all time. Apart from the more obvious blues and folk elements, you can hear the influence of native American music, especially in the 'Mr Mojo Raisin' section and also elements of Indian (Hindi) classical music. Absolutely excellent track.

Jayvon, I love your reactions because they are exactly what the musicians wanted to see. They want you to FEEl it as well as HEAR it!! I still get a kick out of the way you reacted to The Stylistics, Teddy Pendergrass (Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes) and Humble Pie's Black Coffee! Those musicians touched your soul brother!! 50 years after they cut the record!! That's the mark of excellence! One other comment, The Doors drummer is a jazz drummer, the guitar player is a Flamenco player, the keyboard player is classically trained with a background in jazz and blues. Jim the singer was a huge Frank Sinatra fan. Mix it all together and out comes the music of The Doors! It's hard to believe that such a unique sound is the result of this diverse mix of players!! You hit the nail on the head,this is a song to ride out to ,with your windows down and your stereo loud! I been doing exactly that for over 40 years!! You are a man that has a great ear for great music. I look forward to your observations and appreciation of the best music ever made..1960s and 1970s! The greatest decades for not only quality musicianship and lyrical content but also a great quantity of memorable bands!!
