This is just another reminder that I don't mind getting old... for two reasons... Number 1 - My youth was not mis-spent... I can't think of a better musical era to have grown up in... and Number 2 - as alluded to in this tune(along with 'Riders On The Storm'), reminds us all that "The Future's Uncertain, and the End Is Always Near", but, I'm still here, despite over 6 decades of taking on life, HEAD ON, and surviving the worst it has YET, thrown at me. The music of my youth, in ALL it's many variations, still holds so much power over the shape of the society we now live in. The next time you young 'uns see an old man hobbling down the street, rather than feeling sorry and pitying his condition... stare in awe at the inspiration before you, and wish that you may someday be so blessed as to have made it through the fires of life, and emerged even tougher than you were in your, so called, "Prime".👍🏼✌🏼🇨🇦

You're ON it: there is a live/montage version of Roadhouse Blues and I REALLY recommend it. Jim was deeply thoughtful and incredibly well-spoken. He was also messed up and explosive. The video shows the "dangerousness" that was as much a part of him as his poetry.

Jim was such a strange and talented dude. He was a true poet.
@Serai3Күн бұрын
Oh, the live version is even better. Jim really shone onstage. They all did, but Jim loved to improvise and would go on these vocal jaunts that could last a while. Their famously controversial song "The End" was his playground for improvisation; in the central spoken-word section, he would do word jazz, improvising poetry, get strange. He just really loved to perform, much more than he liked to record.

My late cousin told everyone that jim was her husband - she even told her husband! Lol - i miss her so much. Everytime we would talk i would hear them in the background. She moved out of state too early. A band that i grew up with would sing several of their songs and would bring the house down. They performed maybe 10 mins away from her old house.

Great call Lori, this track was the basis of so many bands careers in the early '90s, everyone "borrowed" it, e.g. The Charlatans. It's the touchstone for most of the "dancey baggy" music from that era and some of the musicians, to their credit, have admitted it.

I don't know if you've reacted to any 10 Years After or not, but the lead singer, Alvin Lee, has an amazing blues song where he collaborated with George Harrison of The Beatles and Traveling Wilburys. George does the first guitar solo on a slide and Alvin finishes up with a 2nd solo. Both have their guitars crying! The song is The Bluest Blue.
