Nice reaction! The KinKs had a career from 1964 to 1996. Lola is known for being the first most openly transvestite song (1970) which got a big hit. Their first hit You Really Got Me in 1964 was also the start of Garage Rock, because the guitar player sliced the amplifier open with a razor to get a more distorted sound out of the guitar. In the 80's they had a huge hit with Come Dancing. IN between lots of gems to discover. Definitely a nice band to check out, if you want. God Save The Kinks.

The Kinks were one of the first rock bands to use “Distortion” in the 60’s. Ray Davies took his pocket knife and slashed the felt on the speaker in his amp to get the distortion sound he wanted. “YOU REALLY GOT ME” was one of the first songs with distortion. “ALL DAY AND ALL NIGHT” is an iconic song. The Kinks were innovators in rock and roll. Very underrated. Great reaction, man. I can’t believe you didn’t get the transvestite theme of the song though. LOL. I dig your vidieos, more Kinks please.

"You Really Got Me" and "All Day and All of the Night" are foundational tracks for a LOT of music that came after. "Supersonic Rocket Ship" and "Ape Man" are a lot of fun. "Celluloid Heroes" and "Come Dancing" are probably my favorites. Turning my obligatory yelling into 'other songs with last verse/line plot twists.' For Todd Rundgren, that's "We Gotta Get You a Woman." For Little Feat, that's "Dixie Chicken." (Do it off Waiting for Columbus and IMMEDIATELY follow it up with "Tripe Face Boogie." 15 minutes total of music, but it will reward your patience.)

Lo lo lo lo Lola, lo lo lo lo Lola" You missed it :) So did the censors :) PS the lyrics you find ALL OVER the Internet list that line as "But I know what I am and I'm glad I'm a man". However, I've typed it the way it was actually sung. The officially published lyrics read that the singer is glad he is a man, and Lola is also glad he (the singer) is a man. This was done to hide the true meaning of the song. In reality, the way it is sung, the singer is man in bed, and Lola is also a man in bed... Lola... Lo lo lo lo Lola, lo lo lo lo Lola :)

For about 50 years now I heard it as I’m glad I’m a man. So I listed closely several times and I have to say that you might be right. But I’m pretty sure I hear an “L” sound which would mean it’s GLAD. But I might give it another dozen listens just to convince myself. Hmmm...
