I'd call this a love song - she tore his heart out, stomped it flat and fed it back to him as chicken fried steak, yet he still loved her. She's done him wrong time and again but - He still loves that woman. He loves her yet he's got to hide from that love any way he possibly can. Men today would just step out and find something friendly on the side, but this man? No. No matter what, he still loves her. It's one of their versions of a love song.

Great live version of this song; it is 'different' way of saying things most every human can relate to, its just in different words and presentation, but anyone who listen to this song, has probably felt those feelings being portrayed in this song. Which is why it stands the test of time. because, most all have "been there" before. The band still going strong, minus the lead singer, who sadly died i think in the late 1990s...but they still are together, as far as what ive seen, they were on concert in a cruise somewhere recently.

Marshall Tucker is like 95 yrs. old, Doug Gray was the singer, guitarist Toy Caldwell ( founding member) died in 1993, his brother Tommy the bassist died in 1980. They became famous when they toured with The Allman Brothers Band in the 70’s. Most of their albums went gold then they had a major breakout song called Heard it in a Love Song that really sent them off. After Toys death they had members leave and go their own way, but the rest who stayed went on with new members and made it last through the early 2000’s.

WHEN YOU HEAR THIS SONG AGAIN ON RADIO OR WHEREVER YOU WILL NEVER FORGET IT: DOUG GRAY IS STILL ALIVE AND I THINK THE FLUTE PLAYER IS ALIVE TOO, HIS NAME IS JERRY EUBANKS. I MET THEM WHEN I WAS YOUNG AND ACTUALLY IN CLOSE QUARTERS IN A SMALL BAR BEFORE THEY MADE IT BIG! HE ALSO LET SHOWED ME SOME LICKS ON GUITAR AND LET ME TRY PLAY IT! GREAT GUYS AND I WILL ALWAYS LOVE THEM. THANKYOU FOR THE REVIEW AND NICE JOB YOU DID!

Seems to me that one or two of these guys had relatively recently returned from combat tours in Vietnam when this was filmed.
