They were looking to create something which they, otherwise, didn't feel they had the freedom to do! It is far underappreciated!

I remember being so gutted when Duran Duran split, but Power Station was a necessary stretching of completely different styles that were being stifled in DD. Power Station was great and I still have my LP. This was such an incredible release and I was then heartbroken to see Palmer go back to solo albums because I greedily wanted more of this. I also love that the girl in the video is Caroline (Tula) Cossey.

It's Duran Duran (or at least John and Andy), so you know they never miss! Andy had incredible guitar parts in Duran Duran, but no one knew he had these metal solos in him until this project. Meanwhile, everyone knew John Taylor was a great bassist and now he's looked at as one of the best ever. Chic was also a huge influence on Duran so drummer Tony Thompson was like a dream collaboration for the Taylor boys. Finally there was smooth crooner Robert Palmer, who was also a bit of a suprise when it came to his ability to rock out on Poser Station. Sadly, Robert Palmer died in September of 2003 and Tony Thompson died just two months later in November of the same year. Both gone far too early.

Summer of '85 when this came out...I was 14. My neighbor had this on vinyl, I had a P-Bass copy but no amp. I practiced the bass line unamped for about 3 hours in his garage playing along to the record. His mother left and we plugged it in and I had the bass line down to a gnat's ass. I'm 53 now and it is still one of the greatest memories of my life.

What was uncommon in 1984/85 was that all parts were recorded in different countries. The band never even played in the same same room. They passed the tapes around and each member recorded their parts. The album was produced and mixed by Chic member Bernard Edwards (R.I.P.).

I still to this day want to recreate that sound on my electronic Alesis kit (if anyone knows a voice patch that sounds like this, please let me know). But yes! I don't know the drummer's name (I call him Herbie Hancock) but it's 40 years now I'm still loving that Powerstation sound! The song Murderess is on my mp3 jams for the car right now. I love that this song is driven by the murderous sound of Chic drummer Tony Thompson. Andy and John Taylor kept the molten rhythm flowing to let Robert Palmer bring home the vocals. A BANGER of a cover! This is a Supergroup with John Taylor (bass) & Andy Taylor (guitar) from Duran Duran, Robert Palmer, and the one and only - Chic Drummer Tony Thompson. The band's name came from the recording studio where they created this music THE POWER STATION. A very well known studio used by so many great artists to produce their music. This band was formed by John & Andy who at the time were still a part of Duran Duran but the band had taken a break, some thought they may split up. John & Andy wanted to dive into a harder edge so they formed this band. Simon Le Bon, Nick Rhodes and Roger Taylor formed an amazing band called ARCADIA - "Election Day", "Goodbye is Forever". The band did end up getting back together but without guitarist Andy Taylor who wanted to make solo efforts and Roger Taylor (drums) who had grown tired of the craziness the band was in the middle of. Duran Duran went back with just Simon, Nick and John, eventually making the incredible album NOTORIOUS. The POWER STATION, as a band, made an incredible album though - "Harvest For The World", "Murderess" and "Communication" among other songs on this album. They made two albums. LIVING IN FEAR in in the 90's but it didn't have the success that this album did. Unfortunately, Robert Palmer passed away in 2003 so another album was never possible. Check out ARCADIA. A much different sounding album than this but critically acclaimed.

The T. Rex version had great horns. T. Rex was doing a glam rock treatment of Get It on in 1973. This early 1980's version has a clean yet tougher groove. Robert Palmer does an excellent job with vocals. They are both excellent versions of a song that's good for musician's jam session. I like the Power Station version a lot more now than I did 4 decades ago. That means I must have changed as well. Thanks for reacting.

For anyone who are familiar with the movie Commando starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, on the end credits a song preformed by Power Station was being played and it was called "We Fight For Love" and immediately after hearing it I fell in love with the song. The song does have that typical Power Station vibe to it.

Oh, Boy….i saw them in concert when they first came on the scene….i loved John Taylor from Duran Duran! 😃🥰 This was one of two of my favorite songs by Power Station!

Tony Thompson's drums drive this song. Impossible not to air-drum along. Andy Taylor really shows his guitar chops in this one. And for those in the U.S. who only knew Robert Palmer from "Bad Case of Loving You (Doctor, Doctor), it was like a revelation. John Taylor lays it down solid. John is a bassist who truly deserves more critical recognition. I like the whole album, but I'd try "Murderer" and "Harvest For The World" as your next tracks. BTW, Tony Thompson was the Drummer for Chic.

Amber, you’re right that this is from the late 80s. A friend of mine used to play backup keyboards for Robert Palmer on tour and told me he was the kindest musician he ever worked with (among many big names). I hope you’ll play Palmer’s first US hit Every Kinda People for some true blue-eyed soul. It’s beautiful!
