The Righteous Brothers consisted of Bill Medley (not seen in this video) and Bobby Hatfield (who performed "Unchained Melody" solo). The two of them together are phenomenal, and were one of the most important singing duos of the '60s. Check out their breakout hit, "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'" and "(You're My) Soul and Inspiration." Their first big hit was a rock 'n roll song written by Bill called "Little Latin Lupe Lu." There's also another song that Bobby sang solo called "Ebb Tide." Bobby died in 2003 shortly after the duo was inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Today, Bill still performs under the name Righteous Brothers with a partner named Bucky Heard, but as much as he may try, Bucky can't carry Bobby's songbook.

His studio version of this song was used on "Ghost" soundtrack, demi moore, patrick swayze and whoopi goldberg. Two members, this song was decided to be his solo. Not real brothers, and together early audiences said to have said: you two are righteous, name stuck.

Bobby died at age 63 in 2003 in a hotel on tour with Bill, the other Righteous Brother, in Kalamazoo MI, just an hour from my house. I almost bought tickets. He is 25 here. this live recording is the bets recording of Bobby singing this, better than the record, and this IS live totally. the righteous brothers were one of the opening acts for the Beatles first complete long tour of the USA in August/ September 1964. they left the tour early when they found out they had a major recording contract which sent them to the top of the charts just months later with You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling...

Another version of this video has Bobby (this singer) and his partner Bill talking with the host of this show. They bantered back and forth then Bobby said he would do this solo. This performance was from the Andy Williams show in 1965. I actually watched this when it was on originally. They aren't actually brothers. They got the name from a audience member at one of their early performances. This person went up to Bill and said "That was righteous, brother!" And so, their name was born. Thank you for your reaction, I love it when the younger generation gets a taste of the music I grew up with. Check out other songs from this duo - they are experts in pulling on the heart strings.

They got their name in Santa Ana, CA at a place called John's Black Derby. A black Marine from El Toro Marine Base at the end of their fist set yelled out, "That was righteous brothers." Then other Marines started to greet them in kind by saying things like, "Here comes the Righteous Brothers."

Bobby Hatfield sang the full range of tenor through countertenor which many mistake as falsetto. It wasn't for him, that was part of his natural range. If you watch his jaw as he sings he is totally relaxed which is why he could do those effortless runs and hit those notes. Also, he had a cold and was worried about hitting that note at the end. And his mom was in the audience and had never heard him perform live before. Total perfection and pure talent, no auto-tune. This is better than the studio recording that played on the radio. This song was also used in the movie Ghost with Patrick Swazi, Demi Moore, and Whoopi Goldberg (if you don't cry you're not human).

This song was written in the 50s for a movie, called Unchained, about a man in prison who was thinking about trying to escape, even though he had only a few months left to serve. He was worried that his wife might not wait for him. The movie was a flop, but this song will live forever as one of the most beautiful lovesongs in history. The studio recording became a big hit in 1965. This live version is even better with the more dramatic ending. The studio version became a big hit again in 1990 as the theme song in the movie, Ghost. The younger generation hadn’t heard it before. After my teenaged daughter saw the movie in 1990, she freaked out when the song came on the car radio. I told her it was an old song from when I was close to her age. She sighed as she said, “They don’t make them like they used to.”She’ll be 49 in February and still owns the same Righteous Brothers Greatest hits CD that I do.

There were two guys but not actual brothers, with Bobby Hatfield, singing solo here, His partner Bill Medley had left the stage just seconds before this live performance begins. This was one of Bobby's solos so he wasn't going to have hinself stand there looking stupid while Bobby did his solo magic. Their albums consisted mainly of duets, but usually each singer had a solo track, with Unchained Melody being one of Bobby's.

I hope you acquire an interest in the artists and songs from the 2nd half of the 20th century. The Righteous Brothers are a good start. Bobby's cover of "Unchained Melody" was done 10 years after this great song was introduced in a movie called "Unchained." The movie was a flop, but this song is one of the greatest love songs of all time! This came from the Andy Williams tv show and there was an intro with both of the Righteous Brothers (unrelated) and it was quite funny! As explained below, this was the sound track from a movie "Unchained". The singer in the movie soundtrack was a bad opera singer, but two different baritones, Al Hibler and Roy Hamilton made records that were very good in 1955. They were the best - until Bobby Hatfield made his version in 1965. It becane my favorite! The Hatfield version made a huge comeback in 1990 in the Movie "Ghost". You also need to review the Righteous Brothers - You've Lost that Loving Feeling.

My Lady and I were born in 65 so yes I am OLD. Our greatest memory together was dancing to this at our first high school dance. I moved her hair as we were swaying and got hit for it. My Ladies braids were new and still hurting and I learned quick there's a time and a place for touching my Ladies hair. We still dance every New Years Eve in our kitchen to many songs like this. We wish the best for our grandchildren that they never lose touch with real singers and music that brings couples together. Music removes so many barriers and brings people together. I had to mention that because I've learned to appreciate what my Lady does to remain Beautiful, too few men today appreciate what woman do for us. So I make it a point to put on this music, hold her close and lose myself. Maybe others music will move you this way and I look forward to seeing you appreciate. Bobby Hatfield died at the Radisson Hotel in downtown Kalamazoo, Michigan on November 5, 2003. He was found by Bill Medley and the Righteous Brothers' road manager Dusty Hanvey. A security guard let them into Hatfield's room after he had failed to show up at the concert venue when expected. He apparently died in his sleep, hours before a scheduled Righteous Brothers concert. In January 2004, a toxicology report concluded that cocaine use had precipitated a fatal heart attack RIP Dear Bobby xx
