This song is a tribute to The Bakersfield Sound and it's influence on Rock N Roll, that's why he mentions and centers the song around Bakersfield. A girl with far away eyes is a women who just wants to hook up, no relationship attached. This is from the Some Girls album which is one of their best albums, every track is a gem. This is the only Country song on the album. I wore this album out starting in 1978, and I'm still listening to it on various playlists today. Wild Horses was influenced by the Bakersfield Sound as were many Stones songs, guitarist Keith Richards is a huge Country music fan. Ron Wood does such a great job on the pedal steel guitar. Great song.

Far Away Eyes is a real gem in The Stones repertoire of songs. You can hear Gram Parsons influence on the songwriting in this one. Just a great sing-along tune. 🎶

Keith spent a lot of time with Gram Parsons, and learned to love Country. Mick always looks like he's just taking a piss, like doesn't take it serious. Keith and Ronnie are really in to it. Fun Song

Keef was a big fan of country years before he met parsons,he was introduced to country by his mother,why people keep peddling this myth of gram introducing country to keef is ridiculous

The Stones were known for flavoring their albums with country tunes. Check out "Dead Flowers" from Sticky Fingers or "Country Honk" from Let It Bleed or "Sweet Virginia", "I Just Want to See His Face", and "Sweet Black Angel" from Exile on Main Street. Keith Richards spent a lot of time partying and playing with country-rock pioneer Gram Parsons of The Byrds and the Flying Burrito Brothers during the recording of Exile on Main Street. For a taste of more replete with pedal steel guitar and harmonized vocals, check out The Byrds "Tulsa County" and "Hickory Wind", The Flying Burrito Brothers "Dark End Of The Street" and "Sin City", and Gram Parsons "Streets of Baltimore" and "Love Hurts" (with Emmylou Harris). Sweetheart of the Rodeo by The Byrds and Parsons (1968) is the first entirely Country album by a Rock band, every song is a gem. Although Dylan's album Nashville Skyline (1969) was the first successful commercial Country album by a Rock star Sweetheart of the Rodeo is a close second to that as far as being a great album. Sweetheart of the Rodeo did have singles that charted but the album didn't chart well, it also contains two great songs written by Dylan. I love Country Rock and Rock artists doing Country or covering Country songs. Lots of Rock bands were exploring Country in the late 60s through the 70s and it created new subgenres like Country Rock and Southern Rock.

Just my opinion: I don’t think this style suits The Rolling Stones. I didn’t like it at all. I prefer when The Rolling Stones sing rock music. I prefer “Wild Horses” way more.

Yaaasss! Mid 70s Stones! "Tattoo You" (1981) is a also mid 70s compilation album of theirs since it's just stuff recorded then but not released until 1981.
