This is one of many great songs from 1963. Rest in peace Ronnie. This song will live on and on.

Yes Ashley, they are related. The lead singer is Veronica Bennett, her older sister Estelle Bennett and cousin Nedra Talley. They called themselves The Darling Sisters and became The Ronnettets after signing with Philles Records owned by Phil Spector. Veronica married Phil and became known as Ronnie Spector. Thus the name The Ronettes. Enjoyed your reaction Ashley!

1963 was a great year for Veronica Bennett (Ronnie) and The Ronettes. This was their signature song that consisted Phil Spector's genius production using his "Wall of Sound" technique. Spector's intention was to exploit the possibilities of studio recording to create an unusually dense orchestral aesthetic that came across well through radios and jukeboxes of the era. It was created simply through a maximum of noise and distortion, but the method was actually more nuanced. The studio musicians used would become one of the most legendary musicians in history given their name 'The Wrecking Crew'. If I am correct, they were called The Wrecking Crew because at the time many thought they would wreck the music industry. However, in my opinion just as Spector and The Ronettes were having so much success, the worst thing happened to them a year later in 1964....The British Invasion.

Yes, they are related! Two sisters and a cousin! You should check out Eddie Money’s song from the eighties called Take Me Home Tonight! Ronnie Spector (lead singer of the Ronnettes) makes a cameo in the song and video! It’s a great tune!❤❤

Ashley, Lead vocalist Ronnie (Veronica) Bennett vocals, the "whoa, oh, oh, oh, oh", is a blend of two of the most successful singers of that era, Connie Francis and Brenda Lee. These ladies never wore wigs. "Be My Baby" was released in August 1963. In 1961, The Ronettes, the New York City girl group made up of Veronica (Ronnie) Bennett, her sister Estelle Bennett, and their cousin Nedra Talley. By 1963, the trio caught the attention of producer Phil Spector, and moved to his Philles Records, expanding their sound with his famous “Wall of Sound” production technique. “Be My Baby” was recorded at Gold Star Studios in Hollywood, California on July 5, 1963 and released in August, 1963. They released only one studio album and broke up in 1967. The Bennetts' mother was a Black American and their father was Irish-American. Their cousin, NedraTalley, is Black American and Puerto Rican. In America during the time they were popular, they were a "Negro group". There was no social media so most white people didn't realize this. The group never denied their Black heritage, in fact they graced the cover of Ebony Magazine, the most important monthly magazine for Black people throughout the USA.

Nobody like Ronnie. She had a terrible life at the hands of her producer / husband. He finally got put away for murdering another girl. POS. Ronnie deserved better and finally got that at in the later years of her life. But she always lived with that torment and mistreatment. She was a fine woman both inside and out and I miss her.

Very good upbeat song from mid 60s. Ronnie Spector was a very good singer. Her husband Phil made the song sound better with his Wall of Sound in the recording studio. There was a plethora of very good singers, very good songs in the 60s. Definitely my favorite decade for music!!

She was married to Eddie Money coined "the hardest working man in music , check out Eddie Money's "Take me home tonight", his wife Ronnie on back up vocals! Also check out the Ronettes Christmas version of the song "Sleigh Ride", it's the most famous version of that song!

This is possibly the greatest pop song of all-time. Fun fact: the Bennett sisters singing are of mixed African-American, Cherokee (Indigenous or "Indian"), and Irish-American heritage. So this is - in the most literal sense - quintessentially American 20th century popular music. It was by and for everyone.
