Ale (the bassist) IS an elegant badass. She is one of the few professional bassists who actually plays the bass. She is a classically trained pianist, as well as being trained in Jazz. She also has perfect pitch and her sisters call her a human metronome. Badass for certain.

The Warning covered the original version in 2014, which went viral on KZbin in 2015. A few years later Metallica invited a lot of artists to record own versions of songs from the Black Album to commemorate its 30th anniversary. Among them were Alessia Cara and The Warning, who collaborated on this version. It is on the Metallica Blacklist album, and they made a great video to go along with it. 😉

I have to admit, I am not a Metallica fan, and I was sick of this song, until this version came along. A lullaby where Dany and the strings very sweetly puts you to bed, then rouses the troops, shares a little prayer, the angel chorus comes to sing you to sleep, then Boom, the hammer drops. The strings add a very creepy horror vibe for sure. I think of this very much as the female version of the Sandman tale told as a dark lullaby. So good. Delicate, powerful, soothing, strong, gentle, fierce-all at the same time. I love this one.

Great reaction from both of you, as usual. She's right but she should see/listen to TW's original version of this song, I mean without the string section. That's why their performance at the Metropólitan CDMX theater is better for me. Maybe both of you should watch the Metallica original, so he gets to know it and then my recommendation, so you both get to hear and get to know it without the violins and cellos. Almost always that this song is reacted, there is this discussion about if it's just a cover or a brand new song, and I guess every opinion has its own validity but something that is clear to me, is that these girls yanked this song off Metallica's hands and took off running 😅

So a Sandman is a magical invisible being who sprinkles children with magic sand to get them to sleep at bedtime. The prayer in the middle of the song is one that many Americans recite with their children at bedtime. The song is about a parent trying to get their children to go to sleep while consoling them about imaginary monsters under the bed or in the closet.
