These lyrics from Pete: "Don't cry Don't raise your eye It's only a teenage wasteland" are so cutting. Basically saying to society in a sarcastic way, don't worry, just keep doing what you are doing, it's just kids dying over there, no need to worry... Very powerful.

The Who are a British rock band formed in London in 1964. They are considered one of the most influential rock bands of the 20th century & have sold over 100 million records worldwide. They have so many great songs such as "I Can't Explain", "The Kids Are Alright", "My Generation", "Substitute", "Happy Jack", "I Can See For Miles", "Behind Blue Eyes", "Boris The Spider", "Pictures Of Lily", "Magic Bus", "Who Are You", "Pinball Wizard" etc.

They can never come close to making such great songs today.. Seems the soul of a population reflects the type of music listened to at the time.. We loved & we lost. We made mistakes & we learned. We were hurt & we nursed. We hit & we missed. And great music helped us thru it all

@@xlauriestarchildstudios7777 , the who or the four talents? Roger Daltrey is the singer with an outstanding voice for rock. John Entwistle playes the bass and is a fantastic bass man. Keith Moon was the legendary crazy drummer untill he died much too young. Pete Townshend is to me the best songwriter of his aera and famous for his way to play and destroy guitarrs.

I saw the WHO in concert twice . I love them! Once in 1968 and another time in 1979. That is a synthesizer instrument you asked about. Seeing you enjoy it really made me happy. My generation had great music. You have to realize this was during the Viet Nam war. That young men, teenagers, were drafted unto a war they did not believe in. A waste of teenagers Many songs of the 60's were protest songs.

It's funny but I always took this song to be about the state of British youth in the post-hippie/pre punk age : nothing to do except get wasted. No future, no hope... especially in the industrial North of England (hence 'get my back into my living' and 'travel south'). Seeing your comment made me look up what it was actually about and I found out plenty of fun facts. Cheers!

Baba O'Reily - is part of an unfinished rock opera as is - Behind Blue Eyes. Pete was trying to followup on the successful rock opera - Tommy - Tommy was made into a movie. The top 2 songs are - Pinball Wizard - and - Go To The Mirror. The lyrics " See me. Feel me. Touch me. Heal me." - are from - Go To The Mirror.

One of the top rock bands of all time! I saw them live three times. You're right that it was a commentary on teenage overuse of drugs. Their "Behind Blue Eyes" is another classic featuring the voice of Roger Daltrey. Yhis band has four amazing musicians and the great songwriting of lead guitarist Pete Townshend. Please listen to more by The Who!

The first part of the title comes from Meher Baba, who was Pete Townshend's spiritual guru. The second part comes from Terry Riley, an composer Townshend admired - many of the keyboard riffs and sound effects on Who's Next were a result of Riley's influence. According to the Who's Next liner notes, Townshend wrote it as his vision of what would happen if the spirit of Meher Baba was fed into a computer and transformed into music. The result would be Baba in the style of Terry Riley, or "Baba O'Riley."

Not just 4 of the best musicians ever, but 4 ultra creative minds! Townsand’s guitar work is rather well known, but he arranged all those parts. The Who made so many great songs, you've hit 2 of their best already. I suggest you sample songs from Quadrophenia rock opera. Love Reign O'er Me is one of the great rock songs and vocal performances ever, the last song from Quadrophenia. And I would suggest the first 2 songs from Quadrophenia together, I Am the Sea and The Real Me. I Am the Sea is a ambient intro to The Real Me, which is classic Who rocker, great vocals, bass, horns, everything.

All tracks are excellent on the Who's Next album, but the first and last tracks were designed to be played in sequence. Play the last track on side 2 "Won't Get Fooled Again" Turn record over again and play Baba O'Reilly. The lyrics are related, as is the despondency. Only 50+ years old but bang on the money. We did not listen then, we're not listening still, perhaps we never will (apologies to Don McLean).
