I finally just confirmed what I had always thought-this video is them rehearsing for the first Who concert I ever attended when I was a sophomore in college. Had to wait for hours in a long line to purchase the tickets, but seeing them perform at the Capital Centre in Maryland in 1982 was well worth the wait.

The Who began as a teen Mod band in the early 60s and did lots of RnB cover songs. They got real funky on this one

So glad one of the subscribers suggested this song! It's about the ups & downs of the whole drugs & money party lifestyle, along with all which comes with it. This tune was also one of the influences Michael Mann had for when he was putting together the premise for "Miami Vice." Glad you liked it!

From the 1982 album, " Its Hard", this was the second album after Keith Moon's death. Written and sung by Pete's it a song about illusions, delusions and drug use amongst the wealthy. Pete's cleanly slicing guitar work along with great vocals, with the pulsating bass line, and the rhythm of the drums show they could connect Townshend's new wave influenced solo work with the classic sound of " Who's Next". Just a great tune. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Frank. 👏👏 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

I remember when this album came out, Rolling Stone Magazine in their review said something to the effect of "Just when we were ready to declare The Who irrelevant, they go and release this album and prove us wrong." After the loss of Keith Moon, it was not assured that they'd be back, but they sure were.

At 60 years of age, I put The Who as one of my top 2 bands; they each share #1. The Who had a genius song writer, one of the best rock drummers of all time, the best rock bass players of all time, and a solid lead singer.

Townshend wrote this about the "front" that drug-fueled fame and wealth makes people, particularly rock stars, put on. Pete himself had just completed a regimen of Ativan detox for his out-of-control alcoholism when he recorded this. The funky drummer is Kenney Jones, who took over for Keith Moon after his untimely death. Thanks Frank and Harri!

Got to see them on their first of many farewell tours the one I saw them on was in 1982 at Toronto's Maple Leaf Gardens that concert was broadcast across Canada and the USA as it was supposed to be their very last concert ever. I think it was close to Christmas like the 16th or 17th of December ( I got the ticket as an early Christmas present) it was a Friday night I remember that much. I was 15 at the time of this concert. WOW, 41 years ago where did the time go?

That's my theme song right there! You sound like you're from across the pond, son. I can't believe you've never heard this tune. Used to play it once a day, every day, on the way to school/work. As you point out, one thing about this song is its funk/blues basis. You have to remember The Who was *_heavily_* influenced by some great blues bands and actually started out as a blues band. Best song ever written: the lead-in, the vocals, Pete's guitar work, the lyrics.....everything. They've done a live orchestral version with the NY Symphony Orchestra that's killer too, if you can find it. The guitar intro _and_ the outtro are unsurpassed. Pete puts so many half and quarter rests (and even a couple full rests, I think) into the last 4 measures, it's extremely tough to play. The meaning in this tune is so deep on so many levels. Many things in life really _are_ an eminence front. Our legal system is the epitome of an "eminence front." Very Best Regards, Tom Scott Author ● Speaker ● World's Leading Expert on the Corrupt U.S. Legal System _Our American Injustice System_ _Stack the Legal Odds in Your Favor_

I got to see the Who in 82 at the cotton bowl in Dallas Texas. It was after the trampling of fans in Cincinnati. I was on about the 20 yr line in front of Pete. People behind were pushing and it was so packed I couldn't move my feet and all I could think was if I get pushed over I'm gonna die. I survived and it was an iconic concert. Most scared I've ever been in my life. Billy Squier opened and he go booed off the stage. Best thing was when the Dallas Cowboy Chearleaders came on stage to sing the stroke. I was a fan of bs in the day but everyone was there to see the Who, not bs.

Roger plays rhythm guitar. He has played guitar, since the early 60’s -yet with Pete’s obvious talent, Roger rarely added until like this in the early 80’s. Roger plays Harmonica, too. Mostly you see him spin his Mike in the air, and wail his vocal range. This WHO (1919-82) had a different dynamic. Kenny Jones, drummer, who…😉 drummed for The Small Faces, and The Faces, is in The Rock hall of Fame, for those two bands; The Who is the original four (Roger, Pete, John, Kieth) 🎸

I just read Kenney Jones' autobiography and he's a a solid dude, a good human being. Keith Moon was always going to be a hard act to follow in The Who, so he didn't and remained true to his own approach. Interesting choice of Who song, never heard this one before but yeah it's pretty funky.

It's so ironic that this souds like a theme from an 80's US Cop drama when all along one of their bigger hits would go on to be one of their more recognisable tracks. This is genius. PT on vocals. Roger said it was the best track from the album. (It's Hard)
