Asia your comments about the lyrical themes is one of the reasons that makes this band elite. You have to immerse yourself in their music and every tool fan has had this same realisation. Usually before falling deep into a rabbit hole and in love with everything they release. Truely one of the greatest bands of all time.

Tool likes to hit you with the music first. Once you're hooked, you can't help but look up the lyrics and then it takes you to another level. It's incredibly beautiful how they guide you through their music. I love seeing people find Tool for the first time. It makes me so happy. Enjoy the journey that is their discography.
@GrimrDirge3 жыл бұрын
Tool is a true collaboration between four genius-level artists. Maynard is not a "front man" or "lead singer", he doesn't dominate the spotlight, he isn't forward in the mix above the other instruments. If anything Danny is the most well known. 8:54 You do have to listen closely, it's not for casual listeners. A tool is only useful if you use it with intention; if you don't know what it is or how to use it, a tool is just clutter.

Additionally, in a lot of rock music, the instruments do the talking, spreading the message, the lyrics are certainly part of the song, but its more a subtext. The best rock songs, you'd understand the message whether there were words or not.

Their concerts prove that theory. Most of the time you cannot even see MJK. He's in the background often farther back than Danny. His place in this band is as a contributor not as the main event. Everytime i listen to the tribal drum interlude, listening to the synth-esque guitar, it reminds me of being in a state of meditation during a rainstorm, the drums symbolizing the water falling on various metallic surfaces. Then when it intensifies i cant help but picture the storm intensifying with thunder and lightning. Only one word can describe the total atmosphere of this track...transcendent. Thank you for taking the time to create an awesome reaction to an amazing song. 🤘 got urself another sub 😁 also i loved how, for your first listen, you truely experienced the journey that Tool has to offer. For me, and im sure with many other fans, just losing yourself in the music, feeling the tension and anticipation, even knowing whats to come, creates a sort of ASMR effect. Keep rockin.

RIGHT ON guys! U nailed it. Tools music is so intentional w/their sounds. The reason ppl suggest you listen w/ HEADPHONES (a must) and eyes closed cuz the genius way they mix their music the little rat-a-tats in one ear, tribal drums in the middle, the guitar swirles around you etc. Tickles the brain thru each ear that meets in the middle which produces pictures in yr mind! THE JOURNEY! I wait n watch tool reactions for those who just instinctively close their eyes or hold their faces at parts (wen that wall of sound punches you in the face lol) I KNOW they were truly FEELING it. Its SO amazing to me that only 3 instruments (4 if u count Maynards vocals) can make so much impact! Then the lyrics convey the essence if not the meaning. Another great thing about the lyrics are the metaphors, the assonance which can actually change the interpretation of the song depending on yr maturity and life experiences bcuz they take on new meanings as we grow intellectually!! Hence, the music doesnt get old! We DO however lol. But the songs DONT. If I had to take only 1 album w/me stuck on a deserted island (that miraculously had electricity lol) it wud HAVE to be.........????...fuck!? I'm thinking... Fear Innoculum! No, NO. LATERALUS..?? wait...........................Well, it'll definately be TOOL (smile)

You decipher and look to understand the artistry here, a big part of this so is the timing of the instruments and the very unorthodox way they play here, and if you watch the drum cam version you will see how hard it is to keep the timing. Dany Carey keeps timing while playing different rhythms on each hand and foot and holds them for 2-3 minutes long. You two did a fantastic job of expressing your views (and mine) about the meaning of this song. So we're talking about the same things: "Pneuma" is an ancient Greek word for "breath", and in a religious context for "spirit" or "soul" (Wikipedia). Thanks to Star Wars, in today's culture, it has been described as "The Force". Regardless, it is an attempt to explain a single, unifying but unseen force that permeates the entire universe, making us all "one"...connected with everything...and everyone...else at a basic, fundamental level. I see Tool's powerful interludes between the first two verses and the much lengthier, building "musical trip" leading to the final verse as (again, thanks to Star Wars) the power of that phenomena, when one is open to it. I appreciate the way you were able to relate those impressions.
