Total classic, the sound of my early teens, I was obsessed with this track for a while back then including the lyrics. You know the tune because it's been sampled later, but this is the original amazing sound of Gary and Tubeway Army!

Tubeway army are basically numan who wrote all the songs etc. He is the most underrated and influential artist of the last 50years in my opinion and it's good that at least some people are starting to review his work 👽

Hi Lainie. I think you may be right about 'Cars'. If not, well, they are both 'synth pop' with very similar synthesiser sound. I knew of Gary Numan, but I didn't know about Tubeway Army. They stayed as his band though, did they not?

The ORIGINAL Tubeway Army were Gary Numan, Jess Lidyard (Numan’s uncle) on drums and Paul Gardner on bass; however this lineup is the Numan backing band (latterly Dramatis) plus Billy Currie (from Ultravox) as he’d already decided to drop the TA name, BUT the record company (Beggars Banquet) wanted to capitalise on the earlier incarnations fan base!
