Wow, what are the odds? Midge announces Chris's death the exact same day I post this one. Don't know anything about him, but sure was nice to discover and enjoy his bass playing today. May he rest in peace... Thanks for tuning in Anne 🙂

Hi Brandon. You are right about the 'Visions in Blue' video being banned by the BBC, but not before it had been shown at 7pm on a Thursday night on the flagship 'Top of the Pops' [TOTP]. The song entered the charts at number 15, and then following the video being broadcast, it plummeted to number 30 the following week! Funny that. Cheers

Excellent choice to listen legendary band Ultravox. Especially now, when Chris Cross died a month ago, who virtously played the bass at the Man Of Two Worlds song. Thank you!!

We’ll my friend, it’s been quite awhile since you featured Ultravox. I did enjoy the songs, especially the second one. I’m familiar with their name, but didn’t really follow them, as I had so many other bands that I followed. I find it refreshing listening to unfamiliar bands. 😊

Yes, it was time to learn more, and glad I did! Yes, both of us being avid music listeners since a young age, we both wisely and intentionally "set aside" great bands like Ultravox to discover and enjoy in our "later" years haha!... An interesting week ahead it seems... 1 enchanting favorite, 2 that haven't been on the channel in quite a long time, and 2 new artists!!

Great choices! Ultravox is one of my top favorite new wave bands, along with Devo, Depeche Mode, Oingo Boingo, The Buggles, and Thomas Dolby. Another favorite Ultravox song is "Western Promise" with all of the fantastic synth work, exciting drums, dark sounding verse sections, and inclusion of violin/viola parts!

Loved this reaction to this great band, being Scottish the female vocal singing in Gaelic, I had to look up the meaning of this one and was surprised to find out it’s referring to the duality of two realms, so very mystical. Did you know Midge was also in a band call Slik in the seventies…more pop but good.

What a treat - THREE Ultravox songs! 😊 When you add in Vienna the first track you reacted to, you can already see how versatile and accomplished they were. When you listen to Ultravox you never feel as if they are simply churning out songs based on a formula. The first two albums and the 5th in the classic Midge Ure era are produced by Conny Plank (Kraftwerk producer) and the third one (featuring Visions in Blue) was produced by Sir George Martin! I concur with every word of your reaction. 👍 I am glad you highlighted the bass guitar by Chris Cross in the final song and Billy Currie sprinkling his acoustic piano notes like a very welcome condiment. Although Warren Cann uses some electronic drums at times, his preference for acoustic drums adds a power to their music that I feel many electronic bands of the era simply didn't have. And there is no question that Midge Ure is a very skilful and effective vocalist (and lead guitarist). I could not pick a favourite out of these three because I think they all work so well. But if I was really pushed to do so, I would have to agree with you. 😉 Thank you so much for featuring this fantastic artist and you can be assured there's plenty more good stuff to cherry pick from!

Woohoo, you stayed up late for this one (or woke up early lol) 😊 I was correct in predicting that you might have wanted to click on this video hehe. I think by my comments it's clear to me that I already understand what a range they have. You seem to know the band well, and I agree with all your thoughts and opinions on them. Maybe next time around I'll do one of their most popular (Dancing or Hymn) plus a deeper cut. Was also cool and surprising to quickly read what other projects Mae was involved in. Must research her career further!!

@@retroreactions.... Yes, I woke early! 🙂 Yes, I know them very well. I was so disappointed that I never got to see them in their heyday. However, they reformed in April 2009 for a UK tour and I saw them here in Brighton. It was the first time the classic line-up of the band had performed together since Live Aid in 1985. It was absolutely awesome! They started with Astradyne, which was the first track on their first album together. I recommend this as a deep cut. It is a barnstorming instrumental with all sorts going on, haha! 😃

Ultravox one of the big synth bands of the 80s here the UK,in the top ten for sure,if you want to check out the GOATS,in my opinion there are three...Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark,Depeche Mode and The Human League,if you love Ultravox,then OMD are the closest to them.
@retroreactions....

Oh you sure know how to list them Martin! Loved OMD since they were new, luckily got to see them live about 6 or 7 years ago. Saw The Human League live twice and need them on the channel so I can discover more than the handful of hits that I know. Oh and Depeche....you may not know, but they are my favorite band of all time since 1987!! Saw them countless times, met them twice, always the #1 inspiration for my own music and my "life in general" 😊 So obviously I'd say you have a great first name! Thanks so much for stopping by for this one...

The great thing about your channel Brandon is that although you see a thumbnail or title for a well known group, the music selection is so often very eclectic and surprising and I have heard so many tracks from groups I know well that I have never heard. Well done mate and keep up the good work. All the best. Dave✅✅

With a classically trained musician, who studied piano, violin and viola??? Rather than be confined to the rigid structure of playing in an orchestra, decided to be in a band, and do his thing, with 3 other musicians! Remember Midge Ure had enough clout as a guitarist to play in Thin Lizzy!
