Rob Parissi is the singer, songwriter and guitarist of this song. Yes, he is white, which had a lot of people fooled back in the day(before seeing him live). 😃

This is a true story, the lyrics tell their story. They were a rock band, the pride of Youngstown, Ohio. They were playing out one night and during a break a couple of black guys came up and said, "Dont you white boys play any funky music?" So, that night, after they were done breaking down their stuff, he sat at a table and wrote it on the proverbial bar napkin. He wrote the lyrics in about 15 minutes, he said. Then, the next day, he got together with the bass player and they wrote the instrumental parts. He said the bass line was inspired by The Ohio Players "Love Rollercoaster", because he loved that song. The rest is, as they say, history. *And this was all in a VH-1 show called "Top 50 One Hit Wonders" or something like that

Pretty sure lead singer Rob Parisi was from Mingo Junction and the band was formed in Steubenville - not that it matters. They played all over the upper Ohio Valley back in those days. I saw them at least once and I think it was in the Millsop Community Center in Weirton but I could be misremembering. Pretty sure they played a number of clubs in Pittsburgh as well. It's been while.
@jamesbarrick34034 жыл бұрын
Now time for the rest of the story... about half the band quit after making this turn. They were rockers and wanted no part of the funky disco scene. The band survived and had their biggest hit... a one hit wonder.
