Within Temptation are an incredible band. Discovered them in like 2007, and found out they were doing a tour stop where I lived at the time, 2 weeks after discovering them. Of course I went! Sharon has such an amazing voice. I recommend Mother Earth, Ice Queen, What Have You Done?, The Howling, Our Solemn Hour, Angels, Memories.

I love first reactions for the band that I love. Thank you for your honest reaction, really appreciate it. I followed Within Temptation since their first album, which more on the gothic metal side. If you don't vibe so much with their metal side, perhaps you may try their song Memories, Somewhere, and Bittersweet. Many symphonic metal bands from Europe have their softer side as opposed to their operatic heavy metal side. If you get any recommendation for EPICA, I would suggest reacting to Rivers, or Once Upon A Nightmare.

I think this might be their most radio-friendly song. Their songs often have more meaningful lyrics. The song I can't get over at the moment is Bleed Out, which is about Mahsa Amini.

I really recommend a slower paced song like Memories or Somewhere live (the Black Symphony version with Epica is great) she really showcases her vocals at that show

Wow!! Didn't expect you reacted to Within Temptation. They are amazing, but I agree with you they have almost same style as Nightwish (from my pov). They even have a song with Tarja (ex Nightwish lead vocalist). The song is called "Paradise". Anyways It's nice to see you will give them a second chance. Sharon's voice is amazing. Also the Poland festival ( I think is the same where The warning performed this year) is good if you want to check it out

I have the exact same feelings regarding Symphonic Metal, with Nightwish isn't different. Sharon's voice is what makes me interested in revisit Within Temptation every once in a while, and I'll give you two recs: the song Memories (a softer and chill song) and Saint Asonia's Sirens, which features Sharon on vocals. Another great reaction, Ash ✌️😉

Within Temptation are a band who have changed massively over the years, and they've been around for a long time. Each album is quite different, worth checking out some more from them! Faster is not one of my favourites tbh. If you're not as into the symphonic elements, maybe try some from the latest 3 albums which have less of that than before

I'm a fan of Within Temptation but Faster is not on my list of songs too, when i listen to them. So i do understand your point of view. I'd go for the very old stuff or the very new stuff in your case. They’re not as symphonic metal as Nightwish, at least I don’t think so. Although they do have quite a few songs that have symphonic elements, they’re placed in the genre because they’re from that part of the world that breeds symphonic metal bands. You should check out their collab with former Killswitch Engage singer Howard Jones called Dangerous. No live performances, but great song and very cool music video.
