I’ve known this song for 40 years, and it still astonishes me. Glad you enjoyed it.

I try to listen to this once a week, to ground me spiritually, since 1978. Thanks to reactors like you I get to witness and relive my first time, vicariously, through your eyes and ears. My favourite piece of music of any genre, of any time. All Yes reactors earn my subscription.

Its so cool to see you took to this song so well! This definitely isn't an easy listen especially when you aren't used to their music/music like this. You will love Close to the Edge. The 18 minute monster title track. Many consider it the pinnacle of prog/music in general. That middle section is a real church organ. And a spoiler, there's one in CTTE too. Also, im 22 and this is by far my favorite group. Enjoy the journey. Peace 🫶

These guys are composers. Yes, they have done rock songs and commercial music, but they are like Mozart or Beethoven. All-time music played by all-time musicians. Mozart and Beethoven would been would have been standing in the crowd cheering. Virtuosos playing technically perfect music

Some years back I found out by accident where those buildings on the cover are; they 're in Century City, Los Angeles. I first bought this album the day after I graduated from high school in 1981.

Yes create d music that is enduring, deeply moving and beautiful. 47 years later still revealing more mysteries.

Enjoyed your reaction very much. I've been listening to awaken since the 70's and recently it's overshadowed my first favorite Yes song, " The Gates of Delirium".

YES is the greatest progressive rock band in my opinion. If you want another good spiritual one I suggest "In the Presence of" (The Divine). Especially this great live version: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jpCudYulgqdorck But there are loads of greats including "Roundabout", "The Gates of Delirium", "Close to the Edge", "And You and I", "Turn of the Century", "Starship Trooper", "Perpetual Change", "The Revealing Science of God", lots more. Keep the YES music coming!

you should try the symphonic live 2001 version too, in fact the whole concert is amazing, there is also a live version with Jon Anderson and todmobile...again, amazing

You must listen to the live version. In my opinion it is even better than this studio recording. Although it is not done by YES, it includes the lead singer Jon Anderson. Search for Todmobile; Anderson; Awaken and it will come up. It is simply fantastic !!!!

I think they should've ended the track after the crescendo, the final part sounds like a different song.

I like Awaken from the quiet, harp playing section onwards. The piano introduction is marvellous too, but I do not really ike the section from the piano introduction until the harp playing begins. It's okay but. for me, it doesn't fit this amazing piece of music. "Close to the Edge" is their finest achievement and the best piece of Progressive Rock ever. And if you want another amazingly moving piece of music with Jon Anderson's vocals, then try Jon and Vangelis' "Horizon" track from their album "Private Collection". It is truly exceptional. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hYSso2ijrZiMd5osi=GSSjlbiVf26qpse_
