Twenty-One-Twelve is the way all the Rush fans I have ever known have said it, as well as what the band called it in interviews, if I am not mistaken. 👍💯

This is the Rush song I've been waiting for you to hear. It's made for theatre kids to love. As others have probably already said, the record company was ready to drop them because album sales weren't what the company wanted. Rush said "if we're going out, we're going out on our own terms", and put out this masterpiece. The record company wasn't happy until it began flying off the shelves. With this record Rush gained the freedom to do what they wanted to do for the rest of their career. ❤

2112 is the very first Rush song I ever heard back in the mid 70's. Afterwards I saw my first Rush show at the Forum in LA in 1978....53 Rush shows later I was privileged to see the Final show at the Forum.... Waited until 3:30am by the limousine outside the Forum Club and got to meet Alex Lifeson that night... Great Dude I have a lifetime of wonderful memories!

Saw Rush for my first time play this live in 1976 in Houston. For me, literally life changing. Saw their final tour, also in Houston, with a whole bunch of shows in between. What a fantastic 48 year journey so far! How lucky I was to latch onto a band that would produce 40 years of life inspiring music.

I was a young boy in 1976 and had purchased Rush 2112 through Columbia House (old timey music purchase service/ vinyl records)… I put some headphones on, dropped the needle, and with that first ethereal whoosh, I was taken on a epic musical journey. Still my favorite all time Rush Album… I saw them 17X and even met Neil Peart in a breakfast restaurant in Rochester NY (as a drummer meeting a drum hero/ god, well…) This album was a milestone in my life. Great reaction and review, Geddy 🤣😂😅… Thanks for the warm memories. Long live the mighty Rush 👊🏻

Wow, I really loved your reaction to this. It's not common to react to this but I've seen several at this point and it's usually enjoyable. But I really liked your reaction to this. ❤ I first encountered this in 9th grade as an aspiring electric guitar player, and it blew me away. I bought the album Like A lot of my friends did and we played it over and over and over. And I was trying to learn some of the guitar riffs and really taking note of the drum and percussion patterns, the incredible range of singing, and of course Geddy Lee is an absolute monster on the bass guitar - he normally doesn't use a pick either and he just plays so damn hard with his fingers when he wants to, but other times it's so liquid and smooth but highly technical and capable of being really funky.
@metoo75574 күн бұрын
People not familiar as much with Rush tend to overlook Alex (since he doesn't have a huge drum kit or play as many instruments - bass, keyboard, pedals,voice like Geddy), as only playing guitar (sometimes they see he plays pedals as well), and don't recognize that he's just as much a virtuoso as any of them.

The album was wonderfully designed. The diary entry you read at the beginning, and the other diary entries (the text that wasn't sung) was printed along with the lyrics. Each entry preceded the accompanying lyrics. It was a beautiful design and the album opened up as a gatefold. It was the first thing you heard when you put the album on, and it grabbed you right from the start and kept ahold of you through to the end. It's one of the early examples of prog-metal. It's considered a classic and made the part of the A-List. It started a five-album streak where each album was very different from all the preceding ones, but at the same time sounded like something they had been doing all along. And it holds up even today. The whole suite is one of the most passionate pieces they wrote. "Soliliquy" still can bring a tear to my eye, Geddy sings it with such passion. And "Grand Finale" always gives me a chill at the end. What a great work.
@JavaTheKat3 күн бұрын
Thank you ssssooo much for doing this!!!! 🙏🙏🙏 I agree - Geddy's voice is like crystal in this! The metal parts, the ballad/sad parts, the angry parts, there's so much emotion and clarity... And the symbolism and message in this song make it such a great and important piece of work, too. ☺️

Here's the basic story behind 2112. Their record label Mercury wanted them to do radio friendly songs. This was a protest. They said we're not doing this for you. We're doing it for us. So they made the first half of the record all one song (kinda) and gave them the finger and created this MASTERPIECE This is the story of that battle. Neil Peart, after he joined the band, wrote all of the lyrics to Rush music. We lost our GOAT. He's playing for GOD now. 😇That was the last time I cried (Sorry Christine. When Stevie goes I'm going to lose it) I'm jealous because you have the cool earphones like I had with my old turntable in the day. Now all I have is my little computer speaker. This version has the cool graphics telling the story, in the 1970s we were hit with both barrels(3?) with this, and only our imagination. " Listen to my music". "Hear what it can do". "Tere's something here as strong as life". "I know it will reach you." Thank you so much for making this GOAT enjoyable again. Happy belated 4/20.

Rush followed up '2112' w/ the album 'A farewell to kings' in 1977... it had the 10 min epic "Cygnus X-1 Book I: The Voyage"... And on their 1978 album 'Hemispheres'... they had an 18 min track "Cygnus X-1 Book II: Hemispheres". According to Rush, the musical arrangements on 'Hemispheres' were so complex that they couldn't quite play the material... It burnt out Rush creatively and affected their family lives negatively... In 1979, they decided not to make another musically challenging record... They heard the British 'new wave' music and opted to incorporate those influences and made a 'fun' record 'Permanent waves' in 1980 (which still had long songs like "Natural Science" ... "Jacob's ladder"...)

I'd always understood the 'syrinx' they referred to was the voice box of a bird: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Syrinx_(bird_anatomy)#:~:text=The%20syrinx%20(from%20the%20Greek,the%20vocal%20folds%20of%20mammals. The priests represented the record label who wanted them to be more commercial. The album was intended as a mic-drop response to that, but got them enough of a cult following they were never told what sort of music to make again.

It's actually an opera, because of the shit ending LOL. What the video 'de-emphasizes" is that the guitar hero killed himself before the rescue ships arrived. I had to double check dates, but the star wars vibe was added by the animator. This album came out about a year prior. I believe that either the album linear notes or an interview with Niel credited Ayn Rand's Anthem as inspiration.

Maybe it's a case of Star Wars having big 2112 vibes, since the album came out the year before?

You should listened to the live version on All The Worlds A Stage. See Caress of Steel came out in 1975 and it didn't get received very well at all. Producers didn't get it. Critics were hard on the band and their subsequent tour for Caress became dubbed as the "Down the tubes tour". attendance wasn't there. So when they got ready to make what they thought may be their last album they said what the hell to the producers and record label and there motto was if were going out as a band were going out big. They made this album with a lot of angst and hate when they made this. The first few weeks 2112 didn't do so well but then it started catching on. And of course sales went through the roof. It came out in March 1976 and by November 16, 1977 it went gold. It was a career defining moment for them as from that point on it allowed to make the kind of album they wanted to make without pressure from producers/label. Of course Moving Pictures is there best album which really cemented their path.

Fun fact: Star Wars: A New Hope was released on May 25th, 1977. 2112 was released in March of 1976. So, rather than saying that this song gave you Star Wars vibes, it would have been more accurate to say that Star Wars gave you a strong Rush vibe! : ) PS - Did I mention reacting to The Garden, played live in Dallas in 2012? I think I may have, but just in case!!! : ]

I appreciate the review and enjoy your content. The problem with this is the video gets in the way of you taking the song in like we all did back in the day off the album. This was not a cheap FU to the label…it was an epic stand against and defined Rush’s independence…from this point forward the label didn’t question and Rush made the music they wanted to…period. You should put this on in the dark with earphones and close your eyes and let the song paint the pictures. Keep Rocklin’ RUSH…miss you Neil…RIP.

The five pointed star about the structure of ppl. Syrinx lower back and four parts within ❤️🔥
@unseenentity3262 күн бұрын
The air was thick with the oppressive silence of the Temples. The world outside was a desolate shadow of its former self, a reflection of the rigid control imposed by the Priests of the Temples of Syrinx. Creativity was forbidden. Individuality crushed. Yet, deep in the heart of this lifeless world, a single soul had dared to defy the darkness. He lay on the cold stone floor of his chamber, the discarded shards of his shattered guitar strewn around him like fallen comrades. His chest heaved with the weight of his despair, his mind replaying the mocking voices of the Priests as they dismissed his discovery, his gift. “Yes, we know. It’s nothing new. It’s just a waste of time.” Their words cut deeper than any blade. In the dim light, he stared at his wrists, where the sharp edge of a broken string now lay against his skin. The instrument that had once sung with life and beauty was now reduced to a tool for escape. His fingers trembled as he pressed down, the crimson thread of his life beginning to flow. His eyes closed, and the cold embrace of oblivion beckoned him. But then, as the first waves of dizziness began to take him, a sound broke through the silence. A low rumble, distant but unmistakable, echoed through the air. His heavy eyelids fluttered open, his fading senses struggling to comprehend the growing vibration. With a monumental effort, he turned his head toward the window. The blackened sky was alive with movement, filled with dazzling lights that streaked through the heavens like falling stars in reverse. Ships, their sleek forms glowing with an otherworldly brilliance, descended in formation. The armada had arrived. His breath hitched, the pain in his wrists momentarily forgotten as he beheld the spectacle. Memories of his dream flooded back to him-visions of a civilization from long ago, where creativity and freedom flourished like untamed rivers. It had seemed like a cruel mirage, a taunting glimpse of what could never be. But now, it was here, real and undeniable. The people of his dream had returned. Tears blurred his vision as he realized what this meant. The oppressive regime of the Priests would fall. The downtrodden masses, stripped of their dignity and humanity, would rise again. The world would be restored to what it was always meant to be: a place of beauty, creation, and freedom. But for him, it was too late. His strength ebbed with each passing moment, his life slipping away like sand through an hourglass. A faint smile graced his lips as he lay back, his body growing cold. His sacrifice, his despair, his rebellion-it had not been in vain. As the lights of the armada grew brighter, illuminating the bleak walls of his chamber, he whispered a final, trembling word into the silence: “Freedom.” And with that, he closed his eyes, the oppressive world he had known fading away. Somewhere in the distance, the cry of liberation began to rise, a song that would echo across the universe, born of his defiance and the ancient voices that had returned to set things right. --Story created by ChatGPT.

A syrinx can also be a bird's equivalent to a human's larynx 🙂

Attention All Planets of the Solar Federation - We Have Assumed Control. Can you imagine that at high volume through the PA at concerts back in the day freaking out all the stoned patrons there in the arenas. That would be so freaking hilarious.

If you want another journey, react to CynusX-1book 1 from A Farewell to Kings album. And CynusX-1 Book 2 from the Hemispheres album. They're part 1 & 2 of the same story. There are also visuals like 2112.

That was really good. 👏 👏 👏

2112 is Rush giving the world a gift and it still is, as it always will be. Rush stood their ground against the record label and not only won but proved that they were wrong and they never touched the grand works that Rush created ever again. Well I say, No shit. 2112 crushed it completely! The creativity and purity was way ahead of anything ever produced and stands as a pillar of perfection.

Now you have to do Cygnus X-1 book 1 and Cygnus X-1 book 2 also in comic book form. It's the one song, but off of two different albums. To make it easier, you can do two different videos, one for each of the two books. But it's so much easier to understand if you do the comic book version.

Funny thing about this song. This came out 1974. Star Wars came out 1977!

Listen to my music, and hear what it can do. There’s something here as strong as life, I know that it will reach you. Your damn right. This album changed my life.
