Great song! This rock band was formed in 1969. They were popular for their live performances, sly humorous lyrics & the matching appearances of Billy Gibbons & Dusty Hill, who wore sunglasses, hats & long beards. Sadly Dusty Hill passed away in 2021. Some of their other hits are "Sharp Dressed Man", "Tush", "Gimme All Your Lovin'", "Legs" etc.

The Chicken Ranch was a real place in La Grange, Tx. The last (legal-ish) brothel in the U.S. It was closed in 1973 after this song became a hit. The movie “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas” starring Dolly Parton was about the Chicken Ranch. ZZ Top felt bad about it getting closed because of their song. It was a tradition for fathers to take their sons their to “become a man” and that’s where their dads took them when they got to be that age. Everyone from refinery workers, to police, to politicians would spend time at the Chicken Ranch, out in La Grange, Tx.

The Chicken Ranch was for sure a true place. so true, there was a movie and a theater show based off of it. "The Best Little Whore House In Texas" ...yea it's a long name for a movie, but it was a star-studded cast (for it's time) , starring Burt Renyolds and Dolly Parton. give it a watch. also, if The Chicken Ranch wasn't your flavor, you could visit The Bunny Ranch in Navada (which is still open) lol

Killer live band, and they're still touring and playing bluesy boogie rock to sold out crowds all over the world. Should definitely be on your 'must see' list. Their Worldwide Texas Tour which started in 1976 and finished in 1977 was the largest grossing concert tour ever in the history of rock and roll at that point. 'Takin' Texas to the People!' was their tagline. Behind them a giant screen showed dusky pictures of Texas scenery. The had cactus on stage with them. The stage was in the shape of Texas. There were live animals representing Texas - a bison, a buffalo, rattlesnakes, tarantulas and buzzards. Blistering rock and roll. Totally epic.

The "shack" they're singling about was called the Chicken Ranch just outside La Grange, Texas. The lady that owned it pretty much owned the town since she had schools built, librarys, renovations to the police station & so much more. The movie, "Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" is loosley based on the Chicken Ranch.

Love some ZZ Top! Now, in the same blues rock genre, I'd love to see you react to "the greatest guitarist you've never heard of", the legendary Rory Gallagher. Rory's fans include Slash, Queen's Brian May, U2's the Edge, and many other top notch guitarists. Rory was tapping long before it became popular, along with so many other techniques. He excelled at making a huge range of sounds on his guitar without any of the extra gear. Check out "Tattoo'd Lady" from 1987 performance at the Cork Opera House with over 1m views. By this point in his career, he was starting to suffer from some physical ailments so wasn't the stage dynamo that he was in the 70's but his playing was simply amazing. If you like blues, take a look at the wonderful "Calling Card" from his 1977 Hammersmith Odeon performance. Thanks.
