I LOVE Sense8 & Nomi was one of my favorites! You are so RIGHT Jamie! Not just for Trans but also for Disability (race, ethnicity, culture, etc.)! Is a man pretending to be a Transgender woman and not an actual transgender woman. And it creates stigmas and violence to the Trans community when they do that. They’re sending the message that trans women are not actually women by having Cis Actors tell their stories. They need to stop doing that. It’s offensive and wrong. Think about Black Face. Back in the day when there was not allowed any Black Actors, they would then have white men do black face to play those roles. Not only that but they would play them to be these really uneducated, stereotypical Black people that were made to be the punch line of every racist joke. And that was their idea of what a Black Person was. Well that’s exactly what straight actors have been doing to LGBT roles for a long time. They get dressed up (In whatever stereotypical category they had to play, LGBT+) change their voice and do their best impression of LGBT people. Then, at the end of the day they take of the make up and the costume and their voice ( bc that’s their idea of a Transgender Person) and go home and live a more normal and safer life than most Trans People. Then they’d win an award for their “Transformative” performance and people forget what the main message was of that story. And if the role was Just a woman as you say, then they should’ve hired a Trans Woman to tell that Trans Woman’s story, because like you said she is a Woman. Not a man pretending to be a Transgender Woman.

It’s heartbreaking enough to see so many people today still deal with these struggles everyday without any help. But I would expect a story like that at least to be Written/Created by people who have had some experience or relate to that experience. Thats authenticity. THATS my point. It doesn’t make sense for a cisgender person to play a trans character or real life person, if they’re not trans or have that life experience. Cate Blanchett played Bob Dylan in a movie, and that was an interesting way of going about it. @@Man_of_Tomorrow it's more of that there are many trans actors out there who aren't involved enough in the stories OF trans people in film. even if not the actor, they're not getting to be the director or script supervisor or anything much. it's changing now ofc, but very slowly. the usual MINIMUM is "ok youre trans you can audition for the trans person" like how most brown people would only get to play the token brown person a couple years ago. trans people are barely even getting to play characters on screen who's stories revolve around them being trans, much less characters who just get to be a character, trans or Asian or Jewish or whatever. so giving them the chance to atleast portray their own community is crucial, it's a great way to build their portfolio and move out of being typecast
