1. During the rap, Avi's bass was covering the percussion area. 2. The names after those in the group were their patrons.

Now you can see why they have such a huge and passionate fan base...it’s not just the music but also how they interact with and appreciate their fans. I’m not sure it would be the same if they had gone the way of “the music industry”. Their KZbin patrons and fans is literally how they were able to survive and then grow to where they are now, so people feel very connected to them...and super proud of their accomplishments!

It's a shame the blocking happens, because PTX loves reactors. They watch them, and have been known to recognize reactors who go to VIPs at concerts. Reactors were partly responsible for getting their name out there when they were struggling and they know that. I can say it helps if you pause a few times during the video. But it's all on Sony, and I'm sure PTX has zero control unfortunately. 🙁 Anyway, great reaction, thanks! 😃

that zebra crossing was an intentional reference to the Beatles Abby road. During K.O.'s solo, it's more than likely Avi was doing those beats. PTX is very thoughtful and intelligent when it comes to music.. Not only can they Sing, they are talented in arrangements, visuals...I Love them!!

In the official video I think they just recorded Kevin rapping separately from the beatboxing & then overlaid. But in live concerts one of the others covers it with stomp pad or by mouth as he raps. Just like when Scott covers bass while the bass sings lead, they all have a range of different talents & they take advantage of that when arranging. Kevin is amazing at beatboxing, particularly if it's a complicated beat, but he's not the only one that can do it if it's a simpler beat. There's an old video of The Trio in high school before they became Pentatonix, & in it Mitch was doing beatboxing for part of the song.

@@HAP3SPEAKZ Before. They officially became Pentatonix just before the 1st Sing Off audition. Mitch was finishing his senior year of high school, while Kirstie & Scott were in their 1st year of different colleges. Scott is kind of the "leader", & a friend of his was helping him with searching for opportunities for the Trio to get auditions or other opportunities, & one of those discussed was the Sing Off, since it was specifically searching for a capella singers. But they had also discussed that to really fill out the sound & be able to do more songs they needed a couple more members, particularly a bass. The friend knew someone that knew Avi, & then they found a video on KZbin of Kevin doing his "celloboxing". After finding out more about them, they contacted them both. Scott was able to recruit them both (through what I imagine were several video calls between him, them, Mitch & Kirstie, since all 5 were living in different places) & so they became a group of 5 & formally applied for the Sing Off auditions. Scott managed to get together the $ to pay for Kevin's ticket to CA to meet them all. Everyone had to work out schedules. Mitch even skipped his graduation ceremony. Kevin & Avi met the others in person for the 1st time only the day before auditions started. During those weeks of auditions during the early summer to narrow down who would make it to the show as the top 16 groups, they became as if all 5 had known each other for years instead of just the original Trio. Personally & professionally they really clicked, & they wowed the judges enough that they made it to the show. Once they found that out, they all had to put their other plans on hold because the show wouldn't be finished until near Christmas. (& probably borrow more money from family to live on cause I hear CA is a VERY expensive place to live. I doubt what they got paid for appearing on the show would fully cover their living expenses & housing.) Mitch postponed his 1st year of college. Kirstie & Scott postponed their returns to college. (Mitch turned 19 somewhere in here, catching up to Scott & Kirstie. I forget when his birthday is, but near the end of the Sing Off one of the judges comments on how 3 of the PTX members were only 19.) Anyway, it turned out worth it. 🙂

Yes. Their catalog is extensive. For sure. Haha it’s fantastic. I love that you mention that there is a huge world of music out there. Also this song was adapted and performed for every thursday night football game (american football) for a year or so. That was actually the first time i heard this song. I didn’t put two and two together and realize it was PTX. They care about their supporters because after they won the show, the record label dropped them the next week and they were starting almost from scratch on youtube. So they destroyed the show. Won. And then the label decided they didn’t know how to market an a cappella group.. then why did the label sign on to this show? Makes no sense to me

Well, Sony had been giving the same record contract to all of the winners, and the previous two winners’ records had bombed in terms of sales. Nota (season 1 winner) fell apart a few years after their season, and Committed (season 2) has actually done well in the church/Christian music genre, but not so much in terms of sales. I expect that Sony had no expectations that the third group would do any better, especially considering the quite bad ratings that the show had during their season. Of course, schadenfreude smacked them in the behind when Pentatonix ended up becoming one of the top selling winners from all of these singing competition shows!
@MelaniePoparad

You don't need to know anything really about music to appreciate it, but you do have music knowledge so what you will gain from it is 3 fold: 1) see this group grow as musicians (but see that they started out with boundless talent) 2) watch some legendary and amazing LIVE performances 3) Pentaholics EAT UP sing off performances as we get to experience the magic again each time someone goes through it. It's AWESOME! I understand what you are saying about wanting to understand their music better before you react to The Sing Off (that's the way I understood what you were saying). But honestly, I think to do that, watching The Sing Off is exactly what you should consider doing (specially the whole thing from the 'fluff' at the beginning to the judges comments). The group had formed right before the show. You get to watch them from the very beginning and see how they mature and gel as a group right in front of your eyes. With the pre-performance stuff and the judges comments you come to understand why they make some of the decisions they do. So in my opinion, if you want to understand them better The Sing Off is your best bet.
