First Time Listening/Reacting to NewJeans (뉴진스) - Attention, Hurt, Cookie, Hype Boy, & Ditto

Cookie is an iffy one for English speakers but apparently in Korea they refer to burning a cd as baking one so they baked a cookie (their cd) and want people to taste it. Have to listen to that one with a grain of salt bc they say it's innocent enough but as an English speaker it really isn't. But I still love this group and these talented girlies. They have very good choreos and songs I'm obsessed! They do perform cookie as well but the choreo always changes a bit depending on what they have to sit on. Ditto mv gave me goosebumps!

Everything is always assumed sexual. I speak English fluently but I didn't think nothing bad about it, but I can see how people would. I like to assume they're right and it's just an innocent song about liking someone. But all their other songs are so amazing!

@ThatWeirdFangirl its a shame that it happens that way but I also am trying to take their word that it's innocent but I can't blame the people who are uncomfortable listening to that song. I always just hope they still give the girls a chance bc even if you don't mess with Cookie all their other songs are so good!

the cookie lyrics may seem wird to english speakers, but it's important to remember that it's a korean song written by koreans (and a swiss woman) so what you understand when you read "cookie" is not what they did as writting it, since in korea the slang for burning cds is "baking cds", so gifting cookies is equal to gifting the cd they worked hard on. the company even had to put out a statement because of international fans complaining in which they adressed it by saying, basically 'english speakers never worry about how what they write could be translated/interpreted in other languages, so why should we (ADOR), as koreans, change the way we speak something just because to some of you the line could b interpreted in a different way?', and honestly, fair to them. the world does not revolve around english -and specifically American English Slang.

@@lillycamp8892 could you show me a source for that? because what i'm saying is that the credits for the song are Gigi, Jinsung Park (both korean) and Ylva Dimberg (swiss). Are there any reason why you're sure one of the writers was an english speaker? and also would you happen to know if english is their first language? or if they learned english from USA. Cause the sexual meaning of the word cookie is unique to the US too, and i didnt even notice that the song could be read as sexual until i saw the discourse online -even though i'm obviously an english speaker, but it's not my first language. Again: the song can be interpreted as sexual by some people, sure; i really doubt that the company gave a bunch of teens asexual song on purpose. Insisting that the sexual reading of the song was intended and is the only real meaning of the song is US-centric and English centric, and is really fucking stupid.

also the lore in DITTO goes waaaay deeper! there's a youtube channel under Heesoo's name (the 6th girl), which has little clips of newjeans that Heesoo recorded [some from the music videos and some we haven't seen yet] and every video has a description that heesoo has written. it makes us feel like heesoo was/is a real person. the marketing team at ADOR and HYBE need a raise!!

Just watched a reaction made by guys born in Korea (English-Korean mixed reaction) and the way they described Cookie has a way different tone to the English subtitles in the MV. Not sure who’s at fault for this, or if it’s just not that easy to translate the feeling of the song.

Frr, the translation not always acurate to original language, judging by KZbin translation was so wierd cause that not always acurate
