I was 13 years old when this song came out and I can still remember it playing full blast on the radio in my bedroom and my mom poking her head in the door and yelling, “Are you rocking to Elton?” ❤️❤️❤️ Thanks for the trip down memory lane! This was from the album Caribou...those were the days.

Nobody ever suggests this song by Elton John. It’s called, “Indian Sunset. It tells the story of a young Indian brave facing the heartbreak and loss of his people being driven off their land. If you don’t want to react to it, just give it a listen. The lyrics will bring you to tears.

Comedian Groucho Marx befriended Elton John when the British singer was staying in California in 1972, insisting on calling him "John Elton." One day, Groucho greeted Elton John with his index fingers pointed out, like six-shooters. Elton responded “Don’t shoot me. I’m only the piano player.” And that exchange later inspired the title of an album. Bernie Taupin writes the lyrics and Elton composes melodies around them. This song got its inspiration from Taupin's then-wife, who would comment, "The bitch is back," when Elton would get moody. Love your thoughtful reaction and would enjoy more of John Elton, including full album reviews! 😁

Saturday Night's All Right, I'm Still Standing, and Crocodile Rock are a few more high energy songs from him. He has a deep, deep catalog. Bennie and the Jets, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road and Your Song are also worth a listen. There are still many more, but that'll keep you for awhile. Just wait until you see the outfits 😁. That one is nothing lol.

Humorous story. I was eating a dinner at a convention hall few years ago. Place was full. Everyone was quietly eating. Some guys phone went off playing this chorus. He didn't hesitate. Said , "Its my ex wife" And he answered his phone. The place absolutely roared with laughter.

Elton in the 1970s was a legitimate, straight-up Rock monster. The fact that he could also write some of the most beautiful, melodic ballads of all time makes most people think that he wrote only soft music. I enjoyed your reaction. It brought me back to my 70s childhood. Between 1969 and 1976, Elton John and his band released about a dozen albums, at least two per year, each one better than the last. By 1977 though, he lost his magic, lost his way. Perhaps it was the alcohol and the drugs. By the early 80s Elton started releasing hit songs again, about one album per year, but now he was a Pop singer, no longer a rocker. Most of his 80s albums were pretty bad, most of his 80s hits, for which he is still loved, were weak, to those of us who were there for songs like "The Bitch is Back", "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting", "Love Lies Bleeding", "Your Sister Can't Twist (But She Can Rock and Roll". and all the other hard-hitting Rock songs of his youth.

Actually.... I'm actually surprised that Elton John looks so subdued on that album cover. Elton John was the Lady Gaga of the 70s. He use to wear the craziest outfits and glasses. He is an incredible artist He has done music for the radio, movies, and broadway. I love the songs he helped write for Aida.... and if you ever get a chance to see Aida... go see it. It is wonderful. I remember in the 70s my sisters and I dancing in the living room making up our own dance routine to Crocodile Rock. Lol!

You should absolutely do an Elton John rabbit hole! This song was the second single from the Caribou album, which was recorded and released in 1974. It's not as well-regarded as other albums from the same period, partly because it's massively overshadowed by the albums that come before and after it, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (1973) and Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy (1975), but I think it has some great character. The other thing about Caribou was that it was written and recorded very quickly (in about 8-10 days), because it was the only time Elton had between tours, and he was contractually obligated to release two albums a year at that time. Still, he managed to create two US Top 5 singles, this song and "Don't Let the Sun Go Down On Me". The inspiration for "The Bitch Is Back" was very similar to your story about your former manager. Elton has long been known for having a terrible temper (though that has lessened in recent years with therapy, becoming clean and sober, and becoming a parent). Tensions were running high because of the pressure surrounding the tight recording schedule. Elton came downstairs one morning in a towering mood, and lyricist Bernie Taupin's wife Maxine, who was there at the time, said "Oh God, the bitch is back". Inspired by that turn of phrase, Taupin wrote a lyric and presented it to Elton. Elton immediately knew the song was about him, thought it was hilarious, and wrote the song.

Great reaction! I love Elton John, and he is easily in my top 75 favorite artists. This is an energetic song, but a beautiful piano ballad on Caribou is 'Ticking,' with a beautiful narrative by lyricist Bernie Taupin and Elton's beautiful solo piano and expressive vocals. 'Ticking' is on par with other great storytelling songs like 'The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald' by Gordon Lightfoot and 'Hurricane' by Bob Dylan. Interestingly, Elton John, while going by his given name Reg Dwight, can be seen in a video of T. Rex's 'Bang-a-Gong' and was for several months a member of Simon Dupree's Big Sound, a popular London band that dissolved in 1970 and reformed as Gentle Giant, one of the most interesting and inventive bands of the 70's progressive rock era. Can't wait for more!

Elton is the "Bitch." One day when he was in a foul mood, complaining about anything and everything, Bernie Taupin's wife, Maxine, saw him and said "Uh-Oh, the bitch is back."
