That Supertramp breakfast in America album is amazing as well!! And fun fact they recorded that album in the same studio and at the same time that Fleetwood Mac recorded Tusk, the album after Rumours. At the Village Recorder studios in Los Angeles in 1978/1979.

If you enjoyed "Breakfast in America," I would suggest that you listen to an earlier album of theirs: "Crime of the Century." It has much more of a rock vibe, less commercial -- a totally different sound. The keyboard intro to "Bloody Well Right" is particularly something not to be missed.

I loved watching you react to this album. Fleetwood Mac is one of my all time favorite groups. I was born in 1972 and grew up listening to Fleetwood Mac and great 70's and 80's music. I'm subscribed to your channel, but I'm handicapped and have a very limited income so I'm not in a position to contribute money to reaction channels, but I do love watching reaction videos. Watching how much joy this album brought you, really made my day. And considering how much you said you love acoustic guitar (and how much you love 70's music), I have a great album for you to react to that I think you'll absolutely love. It's Steve Miller band's greatest hits 74- 78. Here's a KZbin link to it, please give it a listen(and do a reaction to it), I guarantee you'll love it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/opKcZYF8fMx2mdk

@@t0dd000 Everyone??? Really? Not even on the Buzzfeed top 10 rock drummers, or several other top 10 lists of pop/rock drummers. Not in the Watchmojo top 10. Not in the Rolling Stone top 10. You have a very odd definition of it if you think everyone thinks of him as an all time great drummer. OTOH, as a bassist who knows LOTS of drummers, I hear his name and some other names you wouldn't normally hear as top 10 all time drummers (Steve Gadd, Bernard Purdie, Liberty DeVito to name a few). I think lots of people think of him as a "very good drummer," but I think it's rare, outside of drummers and bassists, you hear Fleetwood mentioned in a top 10 all time list.

Unlike most bands which have an easily recognizable sound in every song, Fleetwood Mac had so many individual talents that they could make an album like Rumours...a tapestry of songs with different lead singers, different songwriters, different blending of voices... the overall impression when we heard the album back in the 70s was to love the songs individually, but even more...to be blown away by the variety of styles & sounds within one album. It's part of the reason this album has not lost any popularity almost 50 years later.

Mick Fleetwood’s drumming on Dreams is so “in the pocket” - the snare drum strikes are a tiny fraction BEHIND the beats of each measure, which helps give the song its dreamy, drowsy quality. Fleetwood isn’t a fancy drummer, but his “feel” on this song shows that he knows EXACTLY what he’s doing. Same for John McVie on bass. They ALL did. Five seasoned pros, 3 great songwriters, 3 unique voices, a totally pro rhythm section, and the guitar wizardry of Lindsay Buckingham. We’re so lucky to have a record (literally) of their amazing collaboration.

Rumours is one of those rare albums that I consider to be perfect. Like The Beatles' Abbey Road and The Rolling Stones' Sticky Fingers. There are plenty of albums that don't have any bad or weak songs, but these go way beyond that. This album was recorded during a time personal turmoil for everyone in the band. vocalist Stevie Nicks and vocalist/guitarist Lindsay Buckingham were at the end of a long standing relationship, vocalist/keyboardist Christine McVie and bassist John McVie were in the middle of a divorce. drummer Mick Fleetwood was also going through a divorce AND was having an affair with Stevie Nicks. This album documents all that with some of the most honest and emotional songwriting I've ever heard. Their previous album, simply titled Fleetwood Mac (theit second album to have that name) features great songs as well. I'm enjoying your reactions, so please keep them coming. Cheers!

The Verdy channel album review is rapidly becoming a regular part of my weekend. I love your enthusiasm in Music of all kinds, you are clearly a fan of K-pop but unlike many others who love that genre you are not afraid to step out of it and explore the wider world of rock music and you really seem to be enjoying the experience. For those of us who listened to these albums when they were first released it is such a delight to see that they still stand up with a younger audience. Its a validation for us that they were as good as we have always thought they were. Hopefully you are also reaching some people of your own age too and are able to spread the word about great music that must never be allowed to fade away. The Album choices have been impeccable so shout out to your Patreons or whoever else is guiding you . I know you said you may have to reduce the quantity of content over the summer but I will continue to look forward each week to see what you have been listening to.

Smooth bangers. Every song tastefully crafted and executed. They get in the pocket and stay in the pocket each and every time. It's funny that the backstory behind each song is almost as sensational as the music itself. Drugs, affairs, breakups, scandals galore, and they made one of the best selling masterpieces of all time in the midst of it all. And they lived to tell about it.

Here in the 2020's it's hard to convey just how big albums like _"Rumours"_ and _"Hotel California"_ were back in the 1970's. They would stay in the top-10 selling albums for *months,* and that's while they're up against serious competition. The people on the cover are Mick Fleetwood (drummer) and Stevie Nicks (who is writer and singer of the song _"Dreams"_ ). The "Mac" the the group's name is from John McVie, who is the bass player. Everyone in this band was massively talented, and they put a major amount of detailed work into making this album. You may have also heard _"Dreams"_ because of a popular meme back in 2020 where there's the guy taking a selfie of himself skateboarding to work and mime-singing to the song while drinking a bottle of cranberry juice. Look for youtube videos that match "Guy Skateboarding Fleetwood Mac cranberry". That was also huge, but for just a few weeks... 🙂

Another thing to note while reading the lyrics to these songs: Every person in the group were in relationships which were breaking apart during the making of this album. So you get lines like _Players only love you when they're playing_ and _You can go your own way._ Those lyrics are literally one song-writer throwing snide remarks at someone else in the band. It's pretty amazing that they finished the album and the tour after it. Although the song _"Songbird"_ is Christie McVie writing and singing to her new boyfriend - while that's her ex-husband over there playing the bass guitar. Two great women singers in one band.

Going by how often you heard this album's songs on the radio [ and also songs from their previous album " Fleetwood Mac " ], one would have thought that every single released from Rumours would have reached number 1. Fleetwood Mac is truly an awesome band. So many good songs. Over decades. Such high quality production. Their music doesn't get old. Am immensely enjoying your full album reactions. Part 2 will start with a track that, if you've ever watched the British coverage of Formula 1 racing, you will instantly recognise. There's a reason why this is Fleetwood Mac's best selling album to date, it's packed with absolute gems and for a band that was living on cocaine, fumes and varying mutual animosities, the song writing is visceral, emotionally raw and totally compelling, that it turned out so good is testament to the individuals and their dedication to the whole over the one. In the soft rock genre, this is the touchstone that everyone else has to meet and, so far, no-one else has, it is quite simply a masterpiece of musical and lyrical majesty.

Well, Verdy, it sounds like you have something that you and your mother can share, an appreciation for Fleetwood Mac. Think of the memories that you can have now with your mom, riding in the car singing, Go Your Own Way.

Pretty much every song is written by somebody in the band about breaking up with/cheating on somebody else in the band. I can't imagine what making this album was like, but damn did it work.

Verdy this was a definite must own album of the 70's. They had a varied sound with 3 different lead singers and very underrated Drummer (Mick Fleetwood)along with one of my favorite guitarists Lindsey Buckingham. Rounding out the rest of the band Stevie Nicks (Dreams) vocalist, Christine McVie keyboards and vocals, finally John McVie bass. FYI Verdy the two people on the album cover are Mick Fleetwood and Stevie Nicks

Fleetwood is definitely underated as a drummer, as is McVie on bass. McVie is a subtle yet very tasteful bass player. Buckingham is terrific

And you’re right it’s a definite must own album. I have over 5,000 albums here, but if I had to pick 10 to bring to a desert island it would be one of the first, if not the first that i would pick. I got the album when in came out in 1977. I’ve listened to it countless times, and it never get old or boring!

And yes Norman, this would be the first one I take to that island also. Can we choose greatest hits too? 😁

I bought this album in 77 or early 78. I already knew 4 or 5 songs, but the rest were a real treat. Teary-eyed by the end of Songbird is normal.

Thanks, Verdy, you make me feel like I'm hearing this album for the first time. It is partly to do with the fact that I always concentrate on the lyrics for the verbal poetry and the song's meaning. But you respond to the sound of the instruments and orchestration, Verdy. That is your gift to me and everyone else who is tuning in...

This was an awesome album. The band was in strife then, who was sleeping with who, divorces, cheating. They took all that band strife and poured their feelings into the music in this album which made it so epic!

Fleetwood Mac is: Stevie Nicks - female lead and backing vocals Lindsey Buckingham - guitars, male lead and backing vocals Christine McVie - Keyboards, backing vocals, sometimes lead vocals John McVie - bass guitar Mick Fleetwood - drums That is Stevie Nicks and Mick Fleetwood posing for the album cover About the recordings, the band had rented a house in San Francisco for the two or so months of writing, rehearsing and recording this album. Recordings were done in a studio in Sausalito, across the Golden Gate Bridge. However, story has it that because of all the tension going on with the two couples in the band and rumours of infidelity within the band, the last son in this reaction "Songbird", Christine went across the bay to Berkeley (my hometown) to record the song in a small-ish performing arts theatre to both get away from the chaos and also wanted the certain acoustics for her voice and piano sound. The guitar was most likely added later in Sausalito by Lindsey. I was in high school when this album came out and I remember seeing it (the LP vinyl) in the city library, just a ten minute walk from where Songbird was recorded. I signed it out to take home to listen before I could afford to buy my own copy. I still listen to this album to this day.

The percussive sound you heard on "Second Hand News" was made by Lindsey Buckingham tapping on a chair! This is an excerpt from _Making Rumours : The Inside Story of the Classic Fleetwood Mac Album_ by Ken Caillat and Steven Stiefel: _Another great thing about this song was that it had a percussive roll that was created by hitting the seat of a Naugahyde chair that we found in the studio._

The story of these songs is as amazing as the album itself - Stevie Nicks (vocals) and Lindsey Buckingham (guitar) were going through a breakup - John McVie and Christy McVie (bass and Keyboards) were going through a divorce - most of these songs were about each other. This is an all-time, all-time masterpiece.

Mike Mills, the melodic bassist for alt/rock megastars REM, was once asked about his influences, and he replied when he was stuck for a part, he asked himself “what would John McVie play?” Simplicity, groove and just always right.
