22:03 what you miss by just listening to the musical is Orpheus while singing makes a flower bloom, thats why Eurydice makes a full turn around because he's showing her proof that he can *literally* make spring come again. Another muscial recomendation that you may enjoy is 36 questions, it's an audio only musical that you can listen to on spotify, might be a good reaction!

When Orpheus sings his song in "Wedding Song" the flower (the one on the album art) starts to bloom! When she sees what his song could do, she thought that would solve all her problems like he promised-- which is what convinced her.
@LDIndustries6 ай бұрын
What you gotta remember is that Orpheus's songs work literal magic. When he says "it'll bring Spring back" he's being completely literal. Just the unfinished version caused flowers to bloom and all of nature around them to join in on the chorus.

Fun fact about Hadestown: it’s what’s called a “true musical” it basically goes song to song to song without much dialogue outside of them
@Mr_Freds_Studio6 ай бұрын
So are Epic and Hamilton
@johnherrera5095 ай бұрын
I believe it’s also called a sung-through musical
@yoyoeldas5 ай бұрын
True musical is never a term though. The earliest forms of musical theater is what's called a book musical-with the musical numbers integrated in a "book" i.e. spoken dialogue and plot. Sung-through musicals are a much later development so it's wrong to call one truer than the other
@Phoenix358_art5 ай бұрын
@@yoyoeldas yeah, my bad. I’ve only ever heard the term spoken and got “through” confused with “true”
@RatatoskClarke5 ай бұрын
@@Mr_Freds_Studio Is Epic really intended to be a sung-through show? Because if so, it needs a bit more work for it to make sense.

So to explain, Hadestown, is telling the tale as if it's taking place during the Great Depression era and the city of New Orleans. And Orpheus had a way with nature, his music literally bent nature to his will. So that's why he's saying the river, trees, and birds will give them what they need. He's been singing to them and they tend to do what he wants. Even the ground will listen to him. He was able to make flowers bloom with just the amount of the song he shared with Eurydice. In actual myth she was a wood nymph (female nature spirit). This is supposed to be why she wants Spring and Fall to return in the tale. The summer and winter are too harsh for her to live in.

He doesn’t get his talent from Hermes, he’s the son of muse who are goddesses of art and music, and his singing is magical
@glamourweaver4 ай бұрын
“I’m confused about how” Literally the way he said. Whenever he sings his song, the river will break its banks and leave gold at their feet. The trees will bend down and give them fruits, nuts, and syrup. The birds will fly down and lay feathers upon the ground as a bed of down.

"He's such a little golden retriever" is perfect for Orpheus I hope that you have a chance at some point to see the video of Reeve Carney waving hello at his character's introduction and singing these early songs to Eva Noblezada as Eurydice, and then you will understand the depth of its perfection XD

Fun fact about Hadestown and Disney's Hercules, since you mentioned the Muses - Lillias White, who voiced Calliope (kind of the leader of the Muses) in Hercules also landed the role of Hermes in Hadestown after the original actor left the show! I love that little bit of full circle ^^

Jorge, from epic, mentioned that his Hermes was supposed to be similar to Hadestown's Hermes
@Missed_V6 ай бұрын
Initially he wanted his Hermes to be the younger version of Hadestown's Hermes , but he eventually decided to do his own thing.
@anonymousname58606 ай бұрын
@@Missed_Vthat’s probably for the best. His version turned out great and it allowed them both to be distinct. I like both versions. This Hermes feels much older, like he has seen everything by now, Jorge’s version feels young and tricky like he’s just having a good time.

That was a very fun reaction to watch, especially seeing how much of greek mythology you pieced together at the beginning despite not reading a lot about it, or your reaction to the Fates' harmonies or flirting with Penelope and Eurydicie hahaha Looking forward to the rest! This is my favorite musical, and I am so excited at the idea of you listening all the way through! The animatics I've seen are very good, and can sometimes help to give an idea of things going on that aren't necessarily apparent in the music (like Orpheus's unfinished la-la-la song making a flower come to life and bloom in the Wedding Song, which is what so impressed Eurydice).
@CavesAndCorvids6 ай бұрын
YESYESYES IM OBSESSED WITH HADESTOWN!!! It was the first non-highschool theatre production i ever saw and ever since I’ve been going crazy. Also fun fact! Both Orpheus and Odysseus have historically been used as symbols of Jesus Christ, even in old catacomb paintings. Also Hermes and Apollo seem to be having similar characterizations in this musical! Hermes is portrayed as a storyteller and friend of the muses, while in myth both of those roles are traditionally given to Apollo. The reason for this is likely due to Hermès’ role as the person who used to transport souls to the underworld (prior to Hades and Chiron’s existence, they were first referenced following the Odyssey. So that’s another reason that Hades is not in EPIC. The role of Hades was actually occupied by Poseidon at the time I believe as they were likely a singular god- and thus no Chiron or Hades to help souls pass on.) It’s actually the reason people put coins on the dead’s eyes, to pay Hermes but also cause he’s god of thieves and such

Honestly, the first time I heard Orpheus’s “La la la,” I laughed a little, too. It was too abrupt and felt so different from the sounds we heard until now. The thing is I get it now. Orpheus is different; the words he says to Eurydice are just as abrupt and untethered as the sound of his song at first. It’s because he’s alone there, at least at first. He carries others with him-Eurydice, nature itself-and when he’s not alone, it doesn’t sound out of place anymore. He invites the world to embrace his vision instead of adapting his vision to fit the existing world.

Just subscribed! I absolutely loved your reaction. Please continue!! (If you want :> )This musical is honestly mostly just songs, if there is even any dialogue outside of the songs. The songs directly follow each other for the most part, so you won’t miss much by just listening to the album! Which, I love that people can understand what’s happening by just listening to the album. Also, I think the wedding song mostly serves to show us their different personalities. Eurydice is very grounded and realistic while Orpheus is very optimistic and hopeful. For the most part, I think Orpheus’s answers are metaphorical, but basically means “We’ll use what we have/can to have our wedding!” Ever the optimist he is. But yeah, I ADORE this musical sooo much!! The songs are just beautiful and I love how well thought out the lyrics are! And, I wouldn’t mind seeing you react to animatics or just lyrics. I think it’s cool seeing you just react to the lyrics and make your own interpretation! But that’s just me ☺️ Either way, awesome video! Enjoyed watching it!
