I can’t wait for you to react to the next song, bleeding me. It has all those layers you were just talking about. It’s smooth and soft and then rips your head off with absolute feels. The emotion in that song is next level. Bleeding me is top 5 Metallica songs for me. James has said that the first 4 albums his lyrics were pointed outwards, like about control, governments, war, religion. But from black album onwards, he went inwards. Sang about his own emotions and feeling and things he has dealt with, and you can hear the emotion in his songs. Can not wait for you to get to the next one!! I’ve been waiting since you started black album to get to bleeding me haha

"Mama Said". Yeah, it sounds a lot different from their usual stuff, but the writing on that song is just beautiful and so emotional. So many layers in that song. A very good lesson in not listening to your parents' wisdom. A man who didn't take the lessons his mother taught him to heart. The result was a life of turmoil and him too proud to admit that she was right about everything. Then, when he finally goes back home to make peace and tell her how right she was about everything . . . it turns out he's too late and she had passed. That song stirs some heavy emotions for me. Simply beautiful.

Yeah, "Mama Said" is by far the best track on the album... so fucking twangy, lol. "Ronnie" would be my #2 choice, with that awesome intro. The whole Load album is tragically under-rated. It came on the heels of the black album, there was that controversy because they cut their hair (for some reason, I don't know why that was controversial, lol), and then the Napster issues started, and it kinda got buried in their catalogue, but there are amazing tracks on that album.

My all time favorite Metallica song is "The Outlaw Torn" it's a masterpiece on all levels and has some of the best lyrics James has ever written. It's the last song off Load and I think all the other songs with the exception "Bleeding Me" pale in comparison. The Outlaw Torn hits you with such raw emotion.

I don't know a lot about Metallica, but I remember people crapped all over this album when it first came out. Which is weird because this was kind of like my introduction to them, since I didn't really start following modern music until '94 or '95. "Until It Sleeps" was the song that got me into them for sure, but hearing a song like this in a major key (which at the time seemed uncharacteristic of them) only for it to suddenly slam into that fricking bridge. Just holy crap.

@@MightyPeeyeah I generally agree. Metallica at their best are practically untouchable, but St Anger and Lulu (not actually a Metallica album per se) are stinkers. 72 Seasons isn’t bad but very meh… kinda all sounds the same. I have been a Metallica fan since Ride The Lightning, and I feel like many fans turned their backs on them when they departed from their pure thrash metal roots, and the Load and Reload albums are forgotten masterpieces...and I will admit that I had to recalibrate my own ears with those two albums, but when I did so, I realized how impactful they were. This album, and especially this song (and the next) are all about James's first stint in rehab and therapy. Facing his childhood demons head on and some of his very best lyrics... The fist he made, literally talking about how he kept people away with his anger and uptightness, but stopped himself from ever feeling anything, never being able to rest or relax... It's heartbreaking when you dig into the meanings.
