Hello Tequila Jimmy & The Gringa [ @TJandTheGringa ] ! Nightwish fan here, your musical quest summoned me. Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band! This live recording is from Wacken Open Air 2013, together with Floor Jansen [pronounced Yansen], the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K audience. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps. I want to welcome you to the Nightwish community. I hope you like them enough to continue the journey. Believe me Nightwish will surprise you with their songs. Nightwish Shadow Unit from Estonia reporting in ! 6'1'' Dutch Valkyrie Goddess spotted ! This is called Symphonic Metal !!! Floor her name is derived from the Roman Goddess of Spring, Flora. Floor Jansen is called the Valkyrie Goddess of Metal and Empathy. Floor Jansen is a soprano, with a range of more than 4 octaves (Eb2 to F6). She can sing from classical to belting and raspy vocals like screaming and death growls. And she's also a voice coach and teacher to boot. Plus, huge vocal nerd 😉. Floor Jansen was the singer of the Dutch metal band After Forever from 1997 to early 2009. From 1999 she studied at the Rockacademie in Tilburg, where she graduated in 2003. She studied musical theatre and a year of opera. In addition to her activities at After Forever, she gave singing lessons. She plays guitar, piano and flute. On May 5, 2010, she presented her new band ReVamp, which was disbanded in September 2016. From 1 October 2012 Jansen replaced Anette Olzon (Second singer of Nightwish after Tarja) as singer of Nightwish during the Imaginaerum World Tour (And she had to learn the setlist in 48h). On October 9, 2013, it was announced that she would be the group's regular new front singer. In 2015, Nightwish released the album Endless Forms Most Beautiful with Jansen as lead singer. Nightwish's second studio album with Jansen as front singer, Human. :II: Nature., was released in April 2020. And the master of this magic is: Our Metal Mozart Tuomas Holopainen (founder, leader, keyboardist, songwriter and the main composer for Nightwish) Tuomas the keyboardist writes about 95% of Nightwish songs, music and lyrics. He also composes the music for the backing track they use. It is recorded in London with musicians from The London Philharmonics. Pip Williams helps with the orchestration. There are two London based choirs too on the backing track, the other one is a children's choir. And of course with a synth you can do a lot. This was recorded at the 2013 Wacken (pronounced Vahken) Open Air festival in Germany in front of an audience of 82,000 people (one of the largest heavy metal festivals in the world and one of the largest open-air festivals in Germany). Great reaction you two! Here’s some stuff I read. Floor is a cancer survivor. She was seven months pregnant and showing during one concert. (Imagine what her daughter will be like.) She was backstage at a concert and saw Hannes Van Dahl of Sabaton drinking whiskey and asked for some. Then she asked if he would share a cigar. He’s thinking “A rock goddess who likes whiskey and cigars? I have to marry her.” And they did it! Got married I mean. What else they did that night is generally unknown. 😊

Great reaction!! Nightwish is a very deep rabbit hole, where every song is different with unexpected twists and turns. Virtuoso musicians, a genius songwriter (Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player whom many call the "metal Mozart" is a master of emotion and melody), and the best lead singer alive today (Floor Jansen can sing anything, from operatic highs to full metal growls) - and bassist Marco Hietala is a metal legend and also has a tremendous voice (his harmonies with Floor are pure gold). Nightwish is one of the best live bands of all time. I first heard of Nightwish last summer when i heard a reaction to this song , next day i bought the CD of this concert Showtime Storytime . This is the 13th song of a 15 song set , hence the small breaks , the stamina is amazing and shout out to the drummer . The whole concert is superb but apart from this track my other favs are Storytime and Ever Dream . go down the rabbit hole of this band

For me, Floor is by far the best choice for Nightwish. The reason for this is that Floor sings with incredible versatility. There are very, very few singers in the world who are as extremely versatile as this woman. But that doesn't mean that I automatically think Tarja or Anette are bad singers. Absolutely not, its just the fact that they doesn't manage to fill the range like Floor. Floor Jansen is unique and a phenomenon. It can hardly be described in words, you just feel it. And as an added bonus, she is also extremely likeable and warm-hearted as a human being. Simply a perfect mix.

They became my favourite version of Metal and favourite Band from the very first night I was lucky enough to come across them on Y T . After watching this song 3 times over ! Nightwish Army Cleveland, Ohio Chapter reporting. I have been trying to spread the word of Nightwish for over 20 years now. Most people just don’t get it. But for some people, they are the most amazing band they have never heard of. Their sound is too complex and eclectic for most popular music tastes, and unfortunately will probably never be played on the radio. But you have found them. And Goddess Floor has 2 more subjects. I have a deep sympathy for people who understand music well enough to intuitively realize that beyond the drum transition at 12:55 or so you do not pause anymore. The tension build up that comes after that point, followed by the incredible climax, is something to be enjoyed without interruptions. Especially the first time it is vital to take it in in one bite. And I will never stop enjoying to see people being completely mesmerized by and in absolute awe of her voice. And with reason. Floor Jansen is among the best singers of our time.

Great reaction! I couldn't agree more. It's criminal that bands like Nightwish aren't more known and on the radio here in the U.S. If you want more, I'd recommend experiencing this concert fully. You should start from Dark Chest of Wonders and take it from there. Wacken 2013 is an absolute gem. It's probably the best live show anyone will experience in our lifetime.

Every member of the band is an outstanding artist, and they all play for the music instead of showing off. No egos on stage. And they all love what they are doing - and each other. Gotta tell you guys, I really love watching anyone get their first reaction to any of the videos from Wacken. 11 years ago, somewhere in the middle of that crowd, was me. You've just watched one cut from an amazing set - I think it was the 12th or 13th on their set list. I love watching folks discover a band that was one of the main reasons I was so insistent on blagging tickets for Wacken that year. The many reactions to songs from that set, all over youtube, have become something of a guilty pleasurte for me. Because reacting to those songs for the first time I see in your faces the same thing I was feeling out there in the crowd. And that's a wonderful thing.

Welcome to the rabbit hole known as Nightwish. The band consists of top grade musicians who are artists of their craft who play FOR the music. I just want to mention another symphonic band who plays a little heavier music, still in the same genre try Epica, the singer Simone Simmons has a very clean classical voice (but perhaps not the range in voice and style that does Floor). The bands are close as Floor was roommates in singing school with Simon, still bffs.

many of them wasnt there coz of nightwish,that was an festival,not nightwish consert,so 80000 ppl there,yes,but not becourse of nightwish,i was there,and i left when nightwish start to play,i have to leave for my own reasons,but their was not reason why i was there,sad that i did not see that gig,looks amazing

Thankyou for reacting to this most incredible band. Im an old school Metalhead, Motorhead, Saxon, Priest, Anthrax, that sort of thing is my musical heartland and i always thought Symphonic Metal wasn't for me, that it would be far too pretentious. Then, on the insistence of a friend who saw them headline the Bloodstock Festival, i checked this very song and performance. Within a month i owned everything they'd released and have been in love with them ever since. Go down the rabbit hole, you won't regret it 🤘

Lovely reaction. I'm an older man and seen then 3 times now. The first time was with their second vocalist, the 2 others with Floor. It sounds weird, but what ever it is a more metal song or a more ballad, the last song you heard from them will be your favorite, no matter in what order you listen them. All their songs are unique in their own way, but always with a Nightwish signature. That signature can also be heard in their covers (eg. Over the Hills and far away (with first singer Tarja Turunen) and High Hopes with bassplayer Marko Hietela on vocals) Thanks to the exellent musicians and keyboardist and composer Tuomas Holopainen. Great reaction and commentary to my all-time favorite singer and band and I’m older than dirt. (Helpful tip: backup a few seconds free a pause to maintain flow) Floor sings every genre with a powerful and pitch perfect voice. All Nightwish songs are unique and excellent. Tuomas (keyboards, founder, composer), AKA Metal Mozart does not create filler songs. His songs and Floor’s voice guarantee goosebumps galore. This phenomenon is known as a “Floorgasm”. Gabriel should leave a comment that includes a list with links so you can always get to the correct version of a song. Floor is the 3rd Nightwish lead singer, but the other two don’t give me any “gasms”. 😜 Nightwish is huge in Europe and South America, but not the US because of the workings of the American Music industry. Greetings and welcome to Nightwish and symphonic metal. I hear the marching feet of the Nightwish Army!! Thank you for jumping into this awesome journey. If you honestly enjoyed this performance and song, you're in for a treat! The journey you are about to take will be the most exciting musical journey you've ever experienced. The rabbit hole goes deep, so buckle up and enjoy the ride. For starters, the keyboard player is the founder and songwriter of the band. I will also point out that the lineup has changed since this concert. So this experience is a journey into the mind of the keyboard player. The 6 foot, Dutch Goddess of all things vocal is Floor Jansen. Classically trained and prides herself a "nerd" in the topic of the anatomy of the vocal mechanism. From breath support in the lungs, diaphragm, and rib muscles, to the resonating tone created by the shape of the skull, and absolutely everything in between. Lives in Sweden with her husband Hannes Van Dahl (Sabaton drummer), and her 2 girls, Freja and Lucy. Lucy is only a few months old. This beautiful human being ìs so dedicated to the fans and has such a passion for singing, that she has performed pregnant in both cases, with Freja & Lucy. In fact Floor pushed herself so hard last year while pregnant, that she collapsed backstage at the end of a Nightwish show. Can you believe she was actually upset about having to cancel her 2 solo shows after that? lol talk about being resilient!! lol You will be visited by Gabriel Bardac if he didn't already pop up. Follow the blueprint he will leave as this will make your Nightwish experience the most pleasurable and exciting. The Army will fill you in with other info. They're good at that. 😊❤️ They will also suggest other Nightwish songs... stick with Gabe's list, unless it's either sponsored or your choice. Your reaction was one of the best I've seen for this band. I love seeing when people really enjoy the music and performances. It is a shame that although they have fans around the world and perform in countless countries, no radio play has been known outside of Europe. That's all for now. When you want to go further on the path of our 1.83m (6ft.+) tall Dutch Valkyrie Queen Floor Jansen besides Nightwish, here is some background information on the best and most versitale female singer of our time. Floor joined the band 'After Forever' in 1997 at the age of 16. Here are some of my favourites: ‘Energize me’; Monolith of Doubt’ and Dreamflight’. Floor attended the then new Rock Academy in 1999 and graduated in 2003. She also studied 2 years at the Conservatory (1 year Music Theatre and 1 year Opera). 'After Forever' disbanded in 2009 and Floor started her own band 'Revamp' from scratch. Here she experimented with different vocal styles within one song from full operatic to death growls in seconds. Here are some examples: ‘Misery’s no Crime’, ‘Wild card’ and ‘Disdain’. Besides managing a band on her own she also did a lot of vocal coaching and as she is a perfectionist, she wants to do everything at 100%+. Eventually she had to pay the price and got a burnout. She had just recovered when end of september 2012 the call came from Nightwish to fill in for the remainder of the North American Tour at first as their second singer Annette got ill. Floor had just 48 hours to learn the whole setlist. There is a documentary made of this world tour: ‘Please learn the setlist in 48 hours’ Floor joined Nightwish after this iconic Wacken concert in 2013 as permanent member of the band. Floor continued to perform with 'Revamp’ also, but it was clear that she could not combine the two for much longer, so 'Revamp' disbanded in 2016. Floor did a side project called 'Northward' where she dived into the Hard Rock scene. The song 'While Love Died is a must see. Her stunning performances on the Dutch TV show 'Beste Zangers 2019' gave her at last some more recognition in her home country where she was relatively unknown until then. There are numerous guest appearances with other bands to find on KZbin. To see how to get a crowd of metalheads silenced and in awe watch her featuring with the band 'Epica' and the song 'Stabat Mater Dolorosa’ and to see her in full opera mode, watch her rendition of 'O Mio Babbino Caro' from Puccini. As live concerts were cancelled and home isolation due to the Covid situation, Floor discovered KZbin in these years. Mindblowing covers, chats with her idols and other singers, vocal masterclasses, personal insights and so much more. She even made a video reacting to herself singing Ghost Love Score at Wacken. Lots of technical info and some memories of her starting with Nightwish. Also her Fan Friday videos are hilarious. Just unpack some of these and other presents she left on her channel. Also videos of her solotour she did with songs of her impressive career. Her latest endeavour is her stunning solo album ‘My Paragon. Floor is a high sensitive person, so peace and quiet is as important for her. Living by the woods in Sweden with her husband Hannes Van Dahl (drummer of the band Sabaton), daughters Freja (turned 7 years this march) and Lucy (born last october) ,a couple of horses, dogs and cats, she found this.

This is what you get when you combine the best band in the world with the very best singer in the world. Floor is a Goddess. I strongly advice you to watch everything from Nightwish. It is a life changer. Tuomas is one of the very few top composers of this moment. Some titles you should listen to: " the greatest show on earth", or "the poet and the pendulum", "romanticide", etc, etc. They don't do bad songs. You might want to check out the lyrics beforehand, because Tuomas tells a story. And when you want to expand your horizon further, you could also check out a project called Ayreon from Dutch composer Arjen Lucassen. Surprise: you could run into members from Nightwish in that project too. At last: Check out everything Floor does. Because she does everything so goooood.
