I don't really think he's underrated, he's very well respected for his voice, but they have a lot of turmoil in their band and have put out some junk. They even had two versions of Queensryche for a while, the original guys and Tate's band. They went to court and Tate was made to change the name. Now he his band is Operation Mindcrime. If you didn't already know that.

Went to a small club in Baltimore in 1985 ..Paid 5 bucks at the door .. That night Queensryche was playing there .. I pulled up a barstool on the left side of the stage .. An overlook with a wrap around bar .. I was about 10 feet up and 5 feet away .. The absolute best place to be .. When they took the stage , Felt like the whole band was there just for me .. It was during this song , Geoff kept on pointing up to me while singing " Take Hold " and then to my amazement .. During the lead . He climbed up the PA system . Took my hand and stayed with me , shook hands and hugged .. I was unbelievable .. I remember the worried look in Chris DeGarmo's eyes while he was playing lead .. He never missed a lick . " Dude .. Don't let our singer fall " That song transformed my life and I took hold of the flame .. This song became my anthem of life .. Now I am dying of cancer and I reflect on that moment in time 35 years ago .. The song is a song of silent desperation . despair , and giving up hope .. and then tell us .. There is hope , That we can do it and never give up .. Just have to reach and Take Hold of opportunity

I saw them on this tour. They opened for Kiss, and though I love Kiss... Queensryche blew them away from a musician standpoint. Incredibly talented on stage. They're one of the bands that Grunge killed. Not that grunge was bad, just took music in a vastly different direction in the early 90s.

I have seen 19 different reaction/reviews to this exact version of this song and that is the most unique reaction I have seen. I, truly, enjoyed it, as, obviously, did you. You got the pronounciation right the first time. It is pronounced like Queens Rike. This band are widely known as one of the two originators of a style of metal called Progressive Metal (Prog Metal for short). It is a more clean, technical and melodic sound and one of the big things these types of bands do is record Rock operas or concept albums if you will. Many times they will make a recording where the songs have a single theme and tell a story. Now this singer, Geoff Tate is regarded by many as the best rock/metal singer ever. This, in my opinion, is the best Queensryche song and the best performance by Geoff Tate, but he and the band put out amazing stuff throughout the 80’s and 90’s. I would encourage you to check out more. Way to lose yourself in the music. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
