What i love about jpop or japanese rap is, they really do have a love and appreciation for 90’s and early 20’s hiphop/rap that they still incorporate it into today’s modern music. Also, you’re partially right, Kpop is not where they are today without Jpop. Not saying Kpop didn’t work for their own success, but Jpop played a huge role into Kpop success. Jpop is what started the whole idol culture that you see in today’s Kpop, Cpop, Tpop, just asian pop in general. There are many factors to why Kpop spread like wildfire in the west and throughout asia, and a few factors are marketing. Kpop was heavily marketed outside of S. Korea, meanwhile Jpop was exclusively just marketing inside Japan. Japan is after all, the 2nd largest music market in the world after the US. Korean companies knows they make big money from Japan, that’s why they’re always pushing and promoting Kpop groups in Japan. Thus, why you have a lot of Kpop groups releasing japanese versions of their songs, or japanese singles. Japan is also a very hard music industry to break into, the very 1st korean acts to break through the japanese music industry was BOA and TVXQ. Another factor are social media, especially KZbin, it was PSY who put Kpop on the map, but Kpop still didn’t really take off until reaction channels became a really big thing. This is where the devoted Kpop fans come into play, and believe me, Kpop fans are some of the most devoted and craziest fandoms you’ll ever encounter. So most times, it’s hard to find reaction channels that’s not all about Kpop. Another factor is copyrights and limited access Jpop have, unlike their counter part Kpop. But if you enjoyed The Rampage, Psychic Fever from Exile Tribe- Just Like Dat is another Jpop group I could suggest.
