cherry bomb isn't that dark, it's just a divisive and experimental album mainly focused on music and his defiant energy sprinkled in his production, compared to his previous albums that is more on the shock value subject matter. You should go into Cherry Bomb expecting a cherry and bomb in some way, like literally cherry and bomb, the contrast is real

ill be the comment section guy, the wolf album is theorized and widely accepted to be the middle album in a trilogy of albums that takes place over therapy sessions and a summer camp, this trilogy is made up of bastard wolf and goblin in that order and it tells a story of various tyler personas and finding a balance between them the album after this conclusion: "cherry bomb" was stated to be the "caterpillar going to cocoon" that proceeds the "bloom" in flowerboy

thats def not how it goes. the trilogy starts with bastard, then goblin and wolf is last. cause those 3 albums all have the dr. tc therapist character tryna figure out tylers mind and cherry bomb was just a collection of songs unrelated to that narrative. from an artistic standpoint i agree cherry bomb was tyler blossoming into his sound before fully breaking through with flower boy but the trilogy order is off there.

Some of the beats like Awkward reminds me of music from Lo Fi Hip Hop, Nujabes for example. I think the reason why 2008 - 2013 mysic were nice is because nobody really cared if their drums sounded clean or not, it was just supposed to be a part of the expression of the song. Nowadays you just need to have a pure clean drum kit and be perfect as much as possible, it loses that uniqueness
