He probably told her 2 things: - forget right hand gas completely, - and the left hand clutch keep always pressed, let go only very slow... thats it.. the bike will move on it's own with only tiny amount of clutch release Edit: this is the #1 rule for anyone trying to learn manual the very first time, normally cars same very first lesson (except different gas and clutch positions). good luck!
