Big Blue slowed down enough on piano could probably get played in jazz cafe setting without anyone noticing that they're listening to some 90's SNES greatness 😅

Imo, they'd never know, but in its syncopation needs to "jazzing up" if you wanted to play it as a jazz piece. In its original form it is far too rigid.

The melody line of this song is SO GOOD and so long and complex. So many amazing composers did fantastic work back in the 80s for these games. There was no reason for them to make 16+ bar long melodies, then play them ONCE and jump into another 32 bar phrase... It really contrasts with today's 8 bar looped melodies. Hell, 8 bars is even long for today's music. And they did this on ancient bad synthesizers with 4 channels.

Academically trained musician reporting: Believe it or not, when you're ready, it's relatively easy. Reading is like the first thing you learn and it's _SUPER_ reinforced every time you play. There are for sure examples to the contrary, especially when dealing with weird time signatures, but yeah. Don't let it freak you out or stop you from exploring music. Small bites, practiced for a while before taking another bite. This time next year you'll be shocked how much you've learned! It comes faster than you think.

@@KaraComparetto It's your own fault for making it so entertaining to watch your facial expressions. 😋 At first hyper focused and after a while getting into the flow of the song. Later just having fun with some hand movements you seemed to really enjoy and just going with it. I'm not much of a musician (just fooling around sometimes on ocarinas), so just watching your hands for an entire video would seem quickly getting rather boring for me. It's not like I can really follow what you're doing anyway, especially with this tune. 🤣 It looks really impressive, but anyone can see (and hear) that in a few seconds. With dual setup people can choose where to look anyway, so win-win.

man I just love this kind of stuff because it really helps you consider how complex these video game compositions are. I kinda always took it for granted that my favorite games had nice background music, but there is just so much massive talent and gorgeous visions put into games beyond what is on screen. Never have been one to just play video game or movie soundtracks in my free time, but I totally get why its many people's favorite genre of music.

I started the piano 1.5 years ago and I'm proud of my progress, being able to learn FF piano collection scores already ... But it takes me weeks to learn to play a song at full speed with no hesitation. I'm able to sight read "year 1 beginner books" at somewhat fast speed. When I see you sight read a really complex sheet at an insane speed, I realise I'm soooo far away. Also, I now understand how you can play the entire FF piano collection while I spend weeks to learn 1 song from it. You can actually sightread them ... That being said, my biggest fear is that even on fully learned pieces I make quite a few mistakes. Not only do you sightread like crazy, but you don't make mistakes. I hope I'll improve on that dimension too.

Well...I guess the difference is 1.5 years and 29 years haha, plus learning as a child gives you a huge head start. But it's never too late to learn and enjoy your musical journey no matter where you're at!

I used to play guitar and people would be slightly wow'd about how I could hear a couple notes while playing other things and then be like Oh, that sounded like this song.. and start to pick it apart by trial and error and ear, I ended up stopping playing, then sliced both tendons in my left index finger and even though they are both tied now I don't have the same movement on a guitar neck. I was thinking about picking up something like Yamaha P125 to see if maybe I could start learning Piano because my side to side movement and first knuckle move almost perfectly and I know everything can basically translate from guitar to piano, but the moral is you make me really want to try playing ! Love your energy
