WOW, I live in a small heavily wooded town in Ocklawaha FL & there are HUGE chunks of chert I collect on my walks with my cat in her stroller. Yes, she has a stroller but it has a big storage area underneath that I can fill with rocks so don't judge me😆. The chunks get unearthed as the sides of the road are crumbling. I've just been loading them up & putting them in my yard because they're so pretty but now I want to polish them & bring out their true beauty!

Hi! Thanks for your video on chert. I was on vacation in northern Arkansas this spring and found a fist size rock along the road with agate like banding. I looked a bit more in a nearby spring creek and found a few more samples. When I got home I got to work on them. I'm an experienced lapidary and began cleaning up and slicing the first piece. It was surprising how long it took to cut, slab and trim and I could feel the density. The polishing went really well and I cut 4 nice cabochons. These are jewelry worthy stones. It is hard it is and it polishes really well! I'll send ya a picture them if you would like. And it's neat to see your friend Gavin getting into rockhounding and you're a good man for giving him a good show!

Hey cool! I just uploaded a chert rockhounding video! I went on an adventure for mozarkite, a colorful variety of chert/jasper and it's the Missouri state rock. I can't wait to tumble it. Absolutely amazing color and patterns. It almost resembles agate! Beautiful stuff! Check it out if you got a second man. I will definitely be polishing some soon!
