Agust D becomes first rapper in history to exceed one million sales in a day with new record,'D-DAY surpassing Drake. SUGA aka Agust D of BTS is a global superstar along with his 6 members that make up BTS. He just finished the US leg of his sold our world tour where he performed multi day concerts in New York, Chicago LA and Oakland and is headed to Asia. I recommend digging into the story behind Haegum, Daechwita and Amygdala - the trilogy story of how Agust D got his scar and how he learned to heal it.

please pay attention to the lyrics too youre missing out on majority of why bts are famous its cause of their lyrics that they write themselves its not boyband shit and its not kpop. its real and raw even more real than some of todays rap. bts took the roots of hip hop and no matter what genre the song is the lyrics will always be deep and conscience. think conscience rappers but doing whatever genre of music they feel like doing. dont even see bts as a pop group theyre more of a hip hop/r&b collective than a pop group or boyband. american media has distorted so much about music and entertainment outside the u.s to the point people think kpop is pop music when its never been that. there are some pop groups but a lot of it is fusion of genres. and bts does everything has songs for all demographics and age groups they can make childrens songs one day and a heavy rap song about society the next day. they can talk about a girl one day then talk about the school system and workforce the next. they can talk about their mental health one day then call out their government and risk being blacklisted the next. all of these examples are based on REAL songs theyve already released. people keep trying to put bts in a box but no box can contain them.

Thanks for reacting if you wanna check out more Agust D then I'll recommend: 1. Daechwita 2. Amygdala 3. Snooze (has no official Music Video) 4. Life Goes On (has no official MV) Also the other two rappers of BTS- Jhope and RM can rap too.. you'll be mind blown. The 4 vocalist are also Incredible! More recommendations: RM: 'Wild Flower' and 'Persona' Jhope: 'More' and 'Arson' Jimin: 'Like Crazy' and 'Set Me Free pt.2'. That's all for now. And if you wanna dive deeper then doing a whole album review would be great too. For example: Agust D: 'D-DAY' album RM: 'Indigo' album Jhope: 'Jack in the Box' album Jimin: 'Face' album These are the recent solo albums they released before enlisting in the mandatory military service. Two of the members- 'Jin' and 'Jhope' are already doing their military service and the rest will follow too after their solo activities and schedules. And they'll be back in 2025 as a group again once they finish military service.

Haegeum" is a traditional 2 string instrument from Korea. But it also means something like "lift a ban" or" remove prohibition" That's why the lyrics are about freedom vs self indulgence and protest/riot or revolt.

KPOP is more of an industry than a genre. In South Korea they call them IDOLS not KPOP artists. Suga aka Agust D as a solo artist is a Hip Hop/Rap artist, but America likes to put Korean artists all in the KPOP category. He topped the Billboard Top Rap Albums Chart, at number 1 with his album D-Day, and he was number 1 on the Top Album Sales Chart. He topped the Billboard 200 Albums Chart at number 2, tying with JIMIN of BTS for the Korean Artists with the Highest ranking solo album in the Chart's history. Billboard announced in an article that BTS’ Suga Tops 7 Billboard Charts + Becomes 1st K-Pop Artist To Hit No. 1 On Top Rap Albums Chart. But he is actually the first rapper in history to sell the most albums, beating out Drake's record in 2018. I saw him in concert in Oakland on May 16, 2023, and he was amazing, putting on an awesome show. I have a lot of footage. By the way, Haegeum is one of a trilogy of songs. You should react to the other two. I will link them for you, as well as a FIRE dance practice to Haegeum. Hip Hop dance at it's best. 🔥 Agust D - Daechwita (turn on CC's) - kzbin.info/www/bejne/p3jNcoqAZ9-Kjas Agust D - Haegeum Dance Practice (turn on CC's) - kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZoXanKmtrs54jcU Agust D - Amygdala (turn on CC's) - kzbin.info/www/bejne/f4mUlZ6PpLF7jNU

You are a bit off. K-pop and idol music are not interchangeable terms. K-pop is not a genre. But it’s not an industry either. It’s just popular music from South Korea. It’s a category of music. And they most definitely use that term in South Korea. And within the vast category of K-pop, there are many genres. Idol music is just one genre. And it’s the one that BTS started out in. So I’m not sure why everyone likes to bash it. Without it, we would not have BTS. They have grown beyond that, like all the successful idol groups that are still around, like Shinhwa. They have been active since 1998 and still make hits.

@@JoobieLoobieSoobie Suga talked about KPOP in the Grammy Museum interview, and he said "I don't like defining KPOP as a genre, but more as integrated content, because it includes the choreography, wardrobe, make up, videos, etc." BTS were different than your average KPOP group in 2013, because they were trying to bring Classic Western Hip Hop into the Idol music system, so they were getting hate from Hip Hop fans, underground rappers, and also KPOP fans and the company's that controlled the media and the tv music shows and variety show, were cutting their air time, and pulling all sorts of stuff to block them from succeeding. which is why they had to find alternative ways to promote themselves, because their agency was a small label that was struggling financially and did not have any influence in that industry. they got new artist awards (mostly fan voted, and numbers from the charts), but it wasn't until their 2nd year as BTS, and their 5th album, that they finally got their first music show win. That's when they started to really succeed, but they were still getting the same treatment. If you are ARMY, then you know their come up story. And you know that they are different and don't rely on the KPOP system for their success. If they had listened to the people telling them they would not make it because they were with a small company, or any other reason, they would not have made it as a group. While yes, they are a product of that system, they found their own way to make it with their fanbase and their company. I attribute a lot of it to Bang PD giving them artistic freedom and thinking of innovative ways to promote them, and he trusted their talents, work ethic, and them as people. He had a vision for BTS, and it worked.

Greetings from Australia... I'm not sure how much you know about Min YoonGi aka Suga/AugstD....but as you liked his MV then the following info might be of interest to you. Suga/Agust D began writing music lyrics and working with MIDI at age 11 and held a part-time job composing and arranging music at a recording studio at age 16. Active under the name "Gloss" (wordplay on his name YoonGi, which means "to shine") as an underground rapper, He originally entered Big Hit Entertainment as a producer at age 17 Between his commitments as a member of BTS, Suga/Agust D took advantage of time on the plane and in hotel rooms after concerts to continuously produce and compose music. In an interview for Grazia Korea, Suga/Agust D expressed a desire to release the music he wanted to do without having to consider popular appeal or music ranking. He intended to release his music for free in the form of a mixtape to avoid such considerations, commenting that an album "has a feeling of being trapped in some sort of framework" due to the need for company involvement in promotion and advertising. He has released 2 mixtapes - this is his first official album (of which he continues to maintain full creative control) Developing Agust D musically on the base of hip hop, much of Agust D's inspiration for the lyrics came from his own stories of dream, youth, and reality. In order to differentiate his work from that of his work as Suga, he developed the alter ego "Agust D". Suga/AgustD was involved in all aspects of this song and music video and had great input into how the music video was designed/produced (working as usual with Director Lumpens (Choi YongSeok) who does most BTS MVs) - Yoongi wrote, produced, composed the song, he conceptualised the MV and had creative control he is a true genius. This is the middle song in a trilogy..... He is a master storyteller.... a fellow army best explained the trilogy as - Daechwita... ridding himself of the need to prove his worth to others Haegum... ridding himself of the confines of modern society Amygdala... he investigates the inner demons and trauma that started his confinement in the first place.

I am unsure there is much advantage to looking for American artists Suga compares to or even putting him in a box of "k-pop artists". Why seek others' output to stack anyone's talents or lack thereof against? Appreciate the individual. You are a rapper. Do you want people experiencing and legitimately enjoying your output or would you prefer they box you as an artist who sounds like this or that person? And as to K Pop it stretches across a wide spectrum of genres and creative intentions so wouldn't a non-Korean making early exposure stereotyping statements about a rather diverse industry not potentially be an attempt to construct that box? Suga, particularly in his Agust D works, packs an extraordinary amount of meaning into his works. A rapper trying to discern words and indeed the allegorical nature of the visual imagery being presented in the context of those lyrics would have been impressive. A rapper simply recognizing technical abilities within a flow at least for me is a somewhat parochial reaction. I have to wonder if the focus on this work being categorized as K Pop wound up obscuring the expectation of hearing lyrically meaningful art. Hence I missed seeing a reaction which engaged content.

@@WollisWorld My point is saying K Pop is like saying American popular music. It is technically correct but in reality saying something is K Pop tells you little than he is a popular musician from Korea. Without saying anything about your understandings, I do want to point out K Pop in the West for a variety of reasons has been equated to a subgenre of Korean popular music known as Idol music which tends to be showy and commercial. Westerners rarely draw the Venn diagram which shows what they conflate for K Pop is actually a subset of the whole.
