Don't feel bad about being speechless and totally amazed. That is the norm for someone who has not seen Angelina Jordan before. She started singing when she was 1-1/2 years old and, yes, there is a video of that. Her grandmother liked jazz and played her records for Angie when she was very little. Before long, Angelina was using an iPad and listening to all the jazz greats, listening and learning their ways of presenting a song, and putting them away in her toolkit. With her perfect pitch, unusual voice, arrangement and performance skills, she is headed for the moon. So, you see that at nine years and two months old she is already a professional and accomplished artist. She chose this song as a tribute to the original singer, Screamin' Jay Hawkins, whose picture is shown in the beginning. The papers she handed to the band leader were her last-minute changes for him. I like your comments,when you watch this performance,you see it,you hear,but,it doesn't compute in your brain and your right,9 year girls can't sing like that on that level,well you just witnessed something phenomenal. Angelina Jordan has a God given gift,but,she also has been trained and handled well from the beginning and also,even at this age,she was very knowledgeable,she understood timing,control and the art of interpretation. The funny part is you go back and listen to her performances before and after "I Put A Spell On You" by Screaming Jay Hawkins,you realize this is not even her style of singing and look how she just killed that song. I seen some vocal coaches that reacted to this video who were blown away,but,voiced some concerns about how at 9 the intense growls could possibly damage her vocal chords,because,they were still developing and you can tell,that her own vocal coaches were aware of this,so when she was a little older and performed "I Put A Spell On You" the growls and that whistle tone wasn't as intense,but,she still did it. As I mentioned,her true style of singing involves her command of the nuances,that special tone,lovely runs. Angelina Jordan is on another level.

When she was 12 yo she had toured the world, open for Norah Jones in Corea ( 40000 people ), had live stream concert with Alan Walker ( Alan Walker performed his most famous song with an orcestra so called Angelina for help ). When US, GB and Germany made TV show presenting very, very talented children they called for Angelina. Thank you for discovering Angelina. She is well worth every nanosecond you spend on her. I have watched and listened to her in awe since she released her first video on KZbin, and what has been evident to me from the start is that she sings with total conviction, despite the fact that she is far too young to have experienced the events suggested in the lyrics of the song she has chosen to sing. But it is not only that, for strange as it may seem is the even more remarkable fact that she can convey the appropriate emotions within those lyrics to her listener. Angelina was 9 years and 2 months old when she performed this song. It is her tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, who wrote and performed the song in 1956 (50 years before Angelina was born). She based her arrangement on his original performance, although she discarded all the theatrics and allowed her voice and body language to tell the story. The song has been covered by many singers over the years, but to my knowledge, Angelina is the only one who has sung in the same style as the original. There are many things I found particularly worthy of note in this video. Some I recognised immediately and those I missed were brought to my attention by the more observant Angelina fans (her Angels) and I thank them for letting me know what I had missed. (a) Angelina finishing writing last minute changes she wanted and handing them to the Music Director, who smiled. (b) A brief glimpse of Mery Zamani, Angelina's maternal grandmother, a well known and respected Iranian Artist and poet who was also a child prodigy. She was the person who recognised Angelina's talent at an early age and exposed her to all the old time jazz singers. (c) The candle with an image of Screamin' Jay Hawkins on it. (d) The smile on the face of the Bass player. (e) How she rose on to her toes on the last occasion she sang "...because you're mine" (f) The fact she occasionally refers to her written notes on the music stand. Possibly to remind herself of the last minute changes she wanted. (g) Her unwavering passion throughout the performance. Evidenced by her facial expressions and the way she uses her hands and body to emphasise the direction of the song. (h) The way she takes a breath just before she starts the last phrase (I don't care.....) and that breath lasts the whole of that sustained note. A child of that age should not have the ability to hold a note for that length of time. (i) At the end, when she sings I Doooont Caaaaare, she employs TWO separate and distinct vibratos to the word care, a wide one to start the word and a tighter one to close the word (j) The instant transformation from "performance" mode to that of a pensive child, possibly wondering whether she could have done better. I comment on the "pensive" child because Angelina has an incredible work ethic and seeks to perform every song in a way she considers will bring out all the emotions within the lyrics and melody. (k) Perhaps the most remarkable is that despite her tender years, she sings with such total conviction that her authenticity is never in doubt. It is easy to believe that she has experienced the events described in the lyrics. It is not only her voice that is mesmerising, it is also her facial expressions, and the way she uses her hands and body. Her stage presence is electrifying. Angelina has been referred to as the "Queen of Jazz", "The Barefoot Princess", "The girl with a thousand voices". All of them are true, but I prefer the nickname I gave her after listening to about six of her performances. For me, she is "The Chameleon of Song", for as a chameleon is able to change its colour to match its surroundings, so Angelina is able to change the "colour" of her voice to accurately match the needs of the song to reveal the emotions within the lyrics and melody. Even more remarkable is her innate ability to communicate those same emotions to her listeners.

Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, a doctor but that it could never happen. Angelina told her to never give up hope. The girl complimented Angelina on her shoes and Angelina noticed her scarred bare feet so she gave them to her, and the little girl told Angelina she would pray for her every day. Angelina sings barefoot to this day to remind herself (and the world) that there are still children in need. All book proceeds go to charity.

I first saw this musical prodigy about 5 years ago it still knocks me back. Its not a straight cover of the Screaming Jay Hawkins origional it's a compilation and arranged by Angelina. Musicians have been calling her the boss after she made a suggestion to her accompanist during her NORWAYS GOT TALENT winning run. She auditioned at 7 with the Hungarian suicide song and was 8 by her final win with SUMMERTIME. Nice first reaction! Oh boy, you are going to be bombarded by her fans called Angels that will fill you in on this music prodigy with an old soul from Norway. She's basically been a star since she was 7 years old. First and foremost, she is a jazz singer but has the ability to sing any genre. She also does all of her own musical arrangements. Her early influences are Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington, and Etta James to name a few. Her love of jazz came from her grandmother playing jazz music around her when she was young. She entered and won Norway's Got Talent at the age of 8. With her new found fame, she used it to appear on many shows from abroad and help raise millions for the less fortunate children around the world. At age 13, she was invited to participate on America's Got Talent: The Champions in 2020. She shocked the audience and the judges with her rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. She received a standing ovation from all and got the Golden Buzzer from judge Heidi Klum to go straight to the Finals. Her performance went viral and even the group Queen responded on Twitter by saying, " Wow, what a rendition!" Not only that, but she received the copyrights for her version of this song from Queen, which makes it hers now. She did not win, but her fan base grew and expanded her popularity. Another one bites the dust :) I do love to see people who experience this for the first time.. this was my first encounter with Angelina too and I was so astounded I listened to more of hers and very soon became completely hooked... This was definitely her at the age of 9, singing her own arrangement of the song... did you see how she handed her notes about the arrangement to the conductor at the beginning of the video...? She not only has an incredible voice she is a musical genius... And she started many years earlier - singing Whitney at the age of 18 months, winning Norway's Got Talent at 7/8 (7 for the first audition, 8 when she won)... There are plenty of recordings of her singing live - this is where she is really in her element as she loves singing live, and those who have heard her live say that, if you have only heard recordings "you 'aint heard nothng"... apparently live she is on another level altogether...

Please take the time to read the bio for my all time favorite musical artist. Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway to her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar and her Swedish father, Gerry Christian Slattman. Angelina started singing around 18 months of age, after listening to Whitney Houston on KZbin. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz. Mery Zamani is Iranian and was a prodigy as an artist and poet while growing up in Iran. Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where starting around age 4, she had training in music but no vocal training. Her teachers were smart enough to not attempt to change what she was doing vocally. More recently she along with her grandmother have designed and made the clothing she wears on stage. Why Angelina always performs barefoot At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road, asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true. Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East. PLEASE PURCHASE Angelina’s book from her merchandise store on her official website, angelinajordanofficial Angelina, at age 6 and 7, did record a few songs in a recording studio at her school, most notably “I Who Have Nothing”, a truly remarkable performance for a 7 year old. At age 7, Angelina’s audition on Norway’s Got Talent, was a cover of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday”, a song which was banned by a number of European countries during World War II because authorities worried the song would increase the suicide rate. Truly bizarre that this is the song to launch the career of a child musical prodigy. One of the judges on NGT cried. Angelina had turned 8 years old for her next performance on NGT, covering Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” singing acapella which was required by NGT unless the singer also played an instrument while singing. This was the Judge’s cut round of the competition and was not performed in front of an audience. In the Semi Final round of NGT, Angelina sang “Bang Bang” which was written by Sonny Bono and was first performed by his wife Cher but is best known sung by Nancy Sinatra. The improvement in each performance is incredible even though there were only a couple months between them. In the Finals, Angelina did a cover of George Gershwin’s, “Summertime” and won the contest, capturing 46% of the votes from the ten finalists. When asked what she would like to do with the prize money she won (500,000 kroner or about $80,000), Angelina replied, “I want to give it to the poor children”. Angelina had become a star in her native Norway and her videos on KZbin went viral. She gave a few concerts during the summer of 2014 while 8 years old. In December 2014, Angelina realized a life-long desire to sing at the Save the Children's Peace Prize Celebration which is part of the Noble Peace Prize celebration. Angelina’s family took her to United States, Brazil, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Russia, South Korea, Singapore among other corners of Earth, to perform for heads of state and to help raise money for charity. All before Angelina turned 14. At age 9, Angelina recorded a music video covering the 1956 Jay Hawkin’s classic, “I Put a Spell On You”. The video begins by showing Angelina writing her “wishes” for how she wants to perform the song. Angelina has always created her own arrangements for her cover songs. At age 10 and just a week before her 11th birthday, Angelina recorded a demo of “I’m Still Holding Out for You”. Her family never pursued having that recording officially released but someone leaked it on a KZbin video. Thankfully, everyone involved with that song is now ok with the leaked version. Many angels (fans) believe this is one of Angelina’s best performances. When Angelina was 11, she performed a number of concerts in Norway with a jazz/rock band. Those concerts included up to 14 songs, each remarkably performed. Angelina seems to be at her best when on stage, never nervous, only 100% confident. Also at age 11, Angelina recorded her “It’s Magic” album which has, at times, been in the top 10 best selling jazz albums. On June 27, 2018, at age 12, Jordan performed Frank Sinatra “Fly Me to the Moon” for Quincy Jones in The O2 Arena in London. She has said that was the high point of her young career which was already in it’s 6th year. During 2018, Angelina lost her paternal grandfather, her friend Avicii and one of her idols, Aretha Franklin. She did a moving tribute for each. In 2019, Angelina accepted an invitation to compete in the 2nd season of America’s Got Talent (AGT), The Champions. She had, since age 3, wanted to perform for Simon Cowell and she earned his praise with her genius arrangement of “Bohemian Rhapsody”. The surviving members of Queen loved it so much they put a link to it on their Twitter. Angelina was eliminated after covering Elton John’s “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”. Angelina’s family refused to sign any agreement with AGT. Angelina, before age 14, had covered more than 130 songs from 80 different artists, spanning at least 8 genres, all of which are available on KZbin. Angelina has always made changes to each song she covers and often her version is preferred over the original. The pandemic hit shortly after her performances on AGT and likely caused a change of plans by her family, most notably her Uncle Michael who is her manager. Her family agreed to a contract with Republic Records in August 2020. Republic Records declared Angelina Jordan their highest priority new artist. Reportedly her family requested Republic to allow her as normal a childhood as possible and therefore have yet to fully promote her. During the pandemic, Angelina was often seen buying meals for the homeless on the streets of Los Angeles. In November 2020, Angelina released “Million Miles” which she wrote after the passing of her beloved maternal grandfather. She dedicated the song to anyone who has ever lost a loved one. Angelina had previously released, 3 other original songs: “What is Life”, “Oslo” and “Shield” In April 2021, her original “7th Heaven” was released. A jazzy, danceable, inspiring song. Angelina has posted numerous short performances on Tik Tok and Instagram. Angelina had concerts in Norway in July 2022. Personally, Angelina as a great human being and her music came into my life when I needed it most. Her music has improved the quality of my life more than I can express. I now introduce her to as many people as I can, with the hope her music will do the same for others. We know once her family believes the time is right and allows Republic Records to fully promote her, she will become the superstar she has always dreamt and believed she would be. Angelina is one of the most real, genuine, unpretentious, humble, kind, sweet, loving, and self-giving people I've ever had the pleasure of learning about. She gave away much, if not all, of her winnings from Norway's Got Talent to children's charities (true to her vow after meeting the orphan girl). A great, generous humanitarian, she has done several benefit concerts over the past nine years, raising well over 20 million euros for charities. I'm reiterating some of what you've already read in this posting, so I'll stop. I know it's hard to wrap one's head around her vocal expertise, her wisdom and empathetic heart, and her prodigious musical genius -- but you will come to understand her more and more as you take the plunge down this beautiful rabbit hole! Great reaction to a vocal tour-de-force! Yeah..that's what Angelina does.. she stuns her prey (like your reaction revealed) before she sings their face off! You've done it now. You have fallen into the vortex of Angelina Jordan who arguably brings the most confident, versatile, seemingly effortless, and fearless vocal artistry found today (whether measured across artists, genres, or decades). You may think this an exaggeration but listen to a few more of her many performances (160+ covers plus original songs - all on YT) and you will see! She has been performing at a high level all over the world since age 8 when she won Norway's Got Talent singing Billie Holiday, Nancy Sinatra, and Gershwin. It is the rare singer that can, as Angelina has done, go from Queen to "Screamin" Jay Hawkins to Adele to Elvis to Whitney Houston to Michael Jackson to Etta James to James Brown to Amy Winehouse to the Beatles (and many others in between) and do them all justice! If you want to hear music, listen to anyone. If you want to feel music, listen to Angelina. She will stagger you with her ability to find and bring forth the 'essence', the emotional message of nearly any song. You have far to go with Angelina. She is equally comfortable and equally able to impact us whether singing a cappella, accompanied only by a piano or guitar, in front of professional studio musicians or a 40-piece military band. With her immense vocal toolkit, arranging ability (yeah, that too, since about 8yo or so) and the work ethic to make what she does only 'seem' effortless, she will hopefully be touching hearts for a long time to come. It's time to wind back the clocks even more. Here are her 4 Norway's Got Talent performances. Of these, be sure to use the links provided for NGT 1 and NGT 4 ("Summertime" and "Gloomy Sunday"). The NGT 1 video is of her performing "Gloomy Sunday" in the style of Billie Holiday. This video has English subtitles on the screen. It has pre- and post-performance content in which Angelina talks about herself (this is the earliest video we have access to that has Angelina speaking about herself). She's so tiny that she twice fails to get into the chair for her interview. I recommend playing this entire first video. The final performance, NGT 4, has English closed captions that you will need to turn on at your end. This video has a lot more pre- and post-performance content, which are missing in all other KZbin links for this performance. The NGT 4 video begins a lot like an AGT spotlight would, featuring the singer. While she now has 2 permanent teeth, side-by-side, she's still so small that her feet stick straight off the edge of the bench she sits upon. She talks about her experiences on the show and what she's about to show us. This is followed immediately by her singing "Summertime" in the style of Ella Fitzgerald's and Louis Armstrong's rendition. The third segment of NGT 4 contains the judges speaking to Angelina about the effect she has left each of them with. Many of their comments are quite prophetic, and they are called to mind again and again whenever I hear her sing. Two of these judges appear alongside Angelina in several KZbin videos, weeks and months after she won. Angelina was 9 years old in this performance - This song was not arranged for her - she wrote the arrangement based on listening to the original Screamin' Jay Hawkins version - in fact, at the beginning of the video you see Angelina writing down some last-minute changes and it is read by the bandleader. You also notice that her own handwritten notes are on the music stand in front of her as she sings. It takes a while. It creates mental dissonance in many when what we see does not align with what we hear. It's not uncommon when watching Angelina's early recordings especially. And after seeing this over 100 times I can say each time I learn more about this performance. One of guitar players said in an interview he had serious difficulty playing for her because she is so good it was distracting. He couldn't believe he was playing for a child that is that good. She is very disarming. Stick with her to be routinely amazed.
