Angelina is 9 years old in this video - this is shortly after she recorded I Put a Spell on You and some of the band members are the same. The first time she speaks she says she wants to start over - the next time she speaks she wants to raise everything up a full tone - the last thing she does is change the ending of the song on the fly. Notice that there is no vocal coach in the room - besides the band members there is her Mom (seated) and Grandma Mery (shooting the video) - it is possible her Uncle Mike is there - but if so, he is not on camera.

Her "commands" were all made with a smile and in the form of questions , but you can see the musicians nod in agreement. For "I Put a Spell On You" she gave the band handwritten notes of her "wishes", not calling them changes.

This does look like a rehersal but I have never seen her perform this song anywhere else. I would classify it as her form of practice. While some of the musicians have worked with her before, they all seem to understand that she knows exactly what she wants to do with her voice and they just have to follow along. In many of her one musician videos, the guitar player was brought in without knowing what they were going to play and she would would just pick out a song and her grandmother would record it. Most of these songs have never been performed on a stage or in a studio. Instead of going and shooting hoops or kicking a ball, she goes into a studio.

At 9 yrs old she gently but without question leads the band and session. She usually knows what she wants. Many of these early recordings had low sound quality through a phone, like we would expect with family recordings, but the quality of her voice is never diminished. It shines through anyway. Good reaction.

Hi Britt, Welcome to the rabbit hole. The song was originally called 'Portrait of a Man' by the singer songwriter 'Screaming' Jay Hawkins that wrote 'Put a Spell on Me.' Angelina 'The Boss' is in told control well beyond her years including her signature low register. She is a world treasure.

Good morning, Britt. I find it amazing that a young child is in sympathy with a man's agony so much that she wants to sing it, substituting the word "man" for "child." You might listen to the "Screaming" Jay Hawkins original. The empathy and the vocal skill.....Yes, you're right about this being a treat. It really does show her interacting with professionals in a professional manner. Quite marvelous. The original really impresses me---I just feel the agony of an entire people in his voice. She clearly chose this song. I'm not expressing very well my awe at this. Britt, you have a marvelous day. Grandma Ellen, out.

It's become obvious over time that Angelina's family from the start knew her talent and wanted to document it for posterity. This was filmed by her beloved grandma Merry, who was herself a child prodigy in painting and poetry. Her uncle Michael is her manager and mom Sara has been called her stylist.Collectivally they are her shield, which inspired her original song of the same name.

It's very interesting to see how they are exploring the song together. Before this session they probably practiced it separately. Getting all the pieces fitting together. The band seems to be quite happy to have her lead the way. Though she is the boss, she is far from being bossy :-) The song itself is great as well 'I'm using all the colours of blue' is such a great phrase that it is not happy painting.

When she stopped at the beginning, she explained it was too low. Then she kindly asked if she could start over. Yes that’s her mom that the camera panned to. When I was at two of her concerts, July 2022, her mom was right there watching the performances just as much in awe as the rest of the fans. It’s fair to say she is one of her biggest fans. Grandma Mery is #1. Angelina’s ability to know how to best tell the emotional story of each song she performs, is unmatched. I noticed that band and orchestra members are often looking over at her in awe, even from early on. She exudes confidence from every ounce of her being. ❤❤

Hey pretty girl, you’re pretty quickly becoming one of my favorite reactors. Especially with Angelina Jordan. As you fall further into the rabbit hole, you will notice most bandmembers are in all. They are all very professional and established musicians, and probably not overly excited when they find out that they are going to be playing for a nine-year-old. But, as soon as she starts singing into notice the amazement and awe are the greatness they are dealing with. And, although she is referred to as the boss, she is mostly suggesting in nearly asking for permission to do it in a slightly different way. Which 100% of the time she makes this song better, and most Directors and band members notice and realize they have the privilege to back this kid anyone reading this, will never experience anything close to this. She is that special, bottom line, none of us will ever experienced anything like this in our lifetime. and, that will most likely go for our grandkids and great grandkids. I love your reactions. Pretty girl keep it up. And thanks.

Angelina doing what she does! I think that she had worked with all these musicians on other pieces, so had a good working relationship already. Her usual thing is getting the right tempo, but here she asked the pianist to go up a tone. Grandma Mery is filming (as she often did) her style often leaves us a little dizzy with her fast panning.... I would think that grandma introduced her to Scremin' Jay Hawkins with this song, being an artist, the theme would make sense. I suppose that they thought that this wasn't going to be so popular, but then Angelina had a look at another Hawkins classic song - I put a spell on you - now that she can really do something with...

My favorite rehearsal is "Fly me to the Moon" (full orchestra rehearsal for Quincy Jones' 2018 birthday show), but I also like the rehearsal for "At Last" for the 2014 Orkla Growth Award show. She's in the first one recognized as an artist on an equal footing with the orchestra, in the latter she had to deal with a band that initially did not take her seriously because of her age (8yo). Three interesting takes from bad to acceptable to beautiful kzbin.info/www/bejne/jIbClZV7eNSSa8k Here is the stage performance later in the evening for comparison- no one in the audience would believe what happened before kzbin.info/www/bejne/qYjJZ6SIq7eAntE worth a double reaction?

Hi Britt. Great reaction to 9 Angie having a jamm session. (There are English sub versions of things she does also) This was filmed after she did "i put a spell on you" and before "Fly me to the moon" Acoustic version. Her mom Sara once said (while backstage on her audition with "Gloomy Sunday" on NGT) that she hoped she would just sing "Twinkle Twinkle little star ", but "when she saw her sing at her audition, she knew she lost her child to the world" . This one of the reasons they have been so protective of her and trying to give her as normal of childhood as possible. They know Angie is very special. Please react to Angie doing a beautiful and respectful tribute to Aretha Franklin right after she died when Angie was 12. Angie’s version of "Natural Woman".

Yup .. that's Angelina!! This band is the band she did "I Put a Spell on You", I believe. They called her "boss" and really loved her cause she was holding the whole band in her hands .. since it was her own version of it all. I do recommend seeing the original I Put a Spell on You from way back .. with the writer of the song, Screamin' Jay Hawkins. That's what she fell in love with and decided to do for herself!!! I really really love seeing this rehearsal and watching her work. Grandma Mery did so so much of the videography for her rehearsals and full-on singing when i'ts ready to go. I always think of her (Grandma Mery) when Angelina's gaze goes right into the camera. What a family this is! I loved what you said about Mom .. and I agree with you that it is a full-time job, this gorgeous, talented little girl!!

As i was sat watching this great reaction i got to wondering which video/song really defines Angelina. Everything she sings is pure gold but i think her rendition of Michael Jacksons I'll be there really does define her. I think she was around 9 at the time and was asked to sing for a charity event called Swedish Heroes! At the time of the event she was pretty ill running a high fever and was advised by a Dr that she rest and give it a miss! Her family also said she could skip the event but Angelina insisted that she perform because it was for charity. You can hear her sickness in her tone while she sings but to me it really adds to the emotion of the piece. Her humility and her passion for wanting to help those less fortunate shines through here.

She is the boss. Always has been since she was in her mom womb ( yes the blond lady is her mom Sara). You got the wrong video. There's another one that has english subtitles. Anyway, she didn't like how the song started so she asked the band to restart it. They "obeyed" and then the sax boy gave her the "come in". As for her stopping in mid singing, she tells the piano player to lift it a tone up. Too low. As for correcting herself she is just saying: I think I should do it this way. You are the first reactor I've heard using the word sofisticated referring to her and you know what? You're absolutly right. She is a Lady in every meaning of the word. By the way, all the "home made"videos and rehersals are filmed by her Grandma Meri Zanani. Love.🤩😍

Her rehearsals range the gamut from carbon copies of the final performances (i.e., perfect) down to _very_ raw practice sessions with lots of mistakes. One of my top favvorites (among _all_ of her performances, not just rehearsals) is one she did at home in December 2015, when she was almost 10, singing Sam Smith's "Writing's on the Wall" while accompanying herself on piano. kzbin.info/www/bejne/f6qqe6yMetCEabM It's one of the most imperfect performances you will ever hear from her - and not just because she's still learning the piano part and keeps messing up on one particular chord change, but also because from the very beginning she is clearly not even _trying_ to play it at a consistent tempo. I was a little shocked by all of that when I first heard it, but I quickly fell in love with it, and now I have to go listen to it every time I recommend it to someone.

is this a Jay Hawkins original, I believe it is, his music stops you in your tracks? By the way, those musicians in this rehearsal are the same musicians in the studio when Angelina sang for us “I Put A Spell On You?

When she ment it was a bit low it could be a natural reaction because it forced her to sing lower than she wanted or felt were right for her. The reaction was not nessesarily ment from a listners perspectiv.

It is amazing what genres that Angelina masters 🙂You simply have to react to her concert version as 11 years old of "Lovin' You". She is a master in blues / Rock'n'roll too 😍 You will be blown away !!! kzbin.info/www/bejne/p6fQo6l7mb6Ghbs

No She is not commanding but asking to the musicians when to sing (and if she has to sing higher at the end, there is a version with subs) … don’t buy the « boss » think, she is still a kid … and I am an AJ fan

The Boss -name given her tells about the high respect for Angelina from those professional musicians. She´s a professional among her colleagues even if she was only 9 years old😀. She was communicating with her band about the details of the song. Even at 9 years old her knowledge and understanding of music was amazing, in that sense she was not a kid at all!!! Don´t underestimate her genius, please. Just be realistic and give her the credit she deserves, ok?

The "Boss" name seams to be universal when a band addresses the artist they support, regardless of the artist's age. I also have heard the supporting guitarist call Grace Vanderwaal "The boss" when Grace was around 13 years old.

@@Tomas-Odebrant yes I know it's a kind of cute surname but some fans deducec she knows harmony and music writing and give instructions to musicians which is absolutely false and don't help her ... I just wanted to rectify this 🙂
