Welcome to Band-Maid! The best hard rock band I have heard in my 58 years on this planet. They don't stick to any one genre and often mix genres in songs. They are extremely diverse and have an extensive back catalogue featuring Punk, Pop-Punk, Hard-Rock, Classic Rock, Metal, Prog, Blues, Jazz, Groove, Rap etc. From face melting 220 bpm punk-prog mayhem to ballads, instrumentals to acoustics they do it all. They can make you headbang, they can make you pogo, they can make you cry like a baby. They are also five of the nicest people in music, without a shred of ego. They are funny and fun and world class musicians to boot. They are currently into their 11th year with the original line up. That black guitar is actually a bass. It's a Black Smoker 5 string made by the boutique Japanese company Black Cloud Btw, Miku the rhythm guitarist (red rose) formed the band. She had the idea of Band-Maid after working as a maid in Japanese maid cafe's. Her idea is a concept called "The Gap" - that is what you see (cute maids) is NOT what you get (Hard Rock/Punk/Metal). You have opened the floodgates. They may be the best rock group in the world today (I think they are). They are certainly the most creative band since the Beatles, and they are top-tier musicians. I saw many of the classic rock bands - Purple, Zeppelin, Queen, Santana, many more, all in their heyday. I’ve seen Band-maid three times and their performances stand up to any of those legendary bands. You are going to get a lot of suggestions. First, a little background on the band: Saiki Atsumi - Lead vocals Born Feb 8, 1994 MISA - Bass Born Oct 15, 1992 Kanami Tono - Lead guitar, Main composer and arranger Born Sept 28, 1991 Miku Kobato - Rhythm guitar, backing vocal Born Oct 21, 1991 Akane Hirose - Drums Born Dec 14, 1990 Miku was working in a Maid Café after being in an idol group that didn’t break through. She envisoned the idea of a maid-band that plays hard rock and metal. She recruited Kanami, after finding a Kanami guitar cover on line; Kanami then recruited Akane, who recruited MISA. Akane and MISA had been students together at the Tokyo Music Academy. The group decided they needed more vocal “oomph”, and collectively recruited Saiki. Miku didn't know how to play guitar when they started, so Kanami has been teaching her. She's become good so fast that she is really adding to the music mix, and Maidiacs are daring to dream of a dual shred. The band was struggling early on, and in 2014, even as the label was considering dropping them, they posted the music video for “Thrill” which went viral globally. When they realized what was going on, it gave them the momentum to forge ahead, and they have now done multiple tours of Europe and the U.S. and are building a global fanbase who call themselves the Maidiacs. They have released seven full albums, as well as several EPs, singles and music videos. They have put out around 170 songs, covering a wide variety of styles and sounds, without any duds. They combine a punk vibe with instrumental virtuosity (two things that are often seen as being incompatible), and have done some amazing progressive-rock songs and ballads with a metal edge to them. They toured the U.S. in 2022 and sold out 14 cities in less than 48 hours. They followed it up with a 2023 tour which had to be expanded from their original plans. Their fan base skews heavily to actual practicing musicians. Some of those followed the band to multiple dates and documented everything on youtube-some of the footage is hilarious. I’ve seen them in 2019, 2022 and 2023. Their shows are truly life-reaffirming. So far no announcements of another European tour but it seems likely in 2025.

You liked the black guitar...that's a 5 string bass wielded by the "Barefoot Assassin" MISA. All caps, just MISA. MISA! MISA! MISA!. Her bass is from a Japan lute company called Black Cloud. And the bass in this video is the "Black Smoker". They have just released a signature model for MISA, which just started shipping. Sounds like you will be continuing the journey with the Maids. Welcome to the BandMaid experience. The greatest proper rock and roll band of the 21st century. Here's some opinions and facts: •Bass solos are more likely to happen than not. There's a bass solo in their first video! •Guitar solos are shorter, far shorter than you would like them to be •Unless you are superhuman, you will not/ can not be able to pick up everything they're doing to make that song great on the first listen. •Genre? Genres?? We don' need no stinkin" genre! •You like a hard rocking crazy fast tune? Well how about it done as a slower acoustic version? They do that. •April Fools Day 2019 As a joke they recorded a redo of Secret my Lips with traditional instruments and with lyrics in a Kyoto dialect. MV is stunningly beautiful. •The linchpin member of the band gets the least notice/praise. The Mighty Miku Kobato founder/original lead singer steps back to make way for a new more hard rock vocalist. They want her to hold a guitar so she does and learns to play on the fly, performing all the while she's learning. So the person who willed the band into existence, who is the primary lyricist, the only member who sings and plays an instrument most of the time gets the least comments from reactors. Oh yeah she has her own signature model guitar from Zematis. •10 plus years with the same line up. Think about that. •More hooks, riffs and motifs in many songs than most bands have on an album. Check it out. No hyperbole. •Use of puns, wordplay using homophones between Japanese and English are not the exception. They are typical of Kobato's lyrics. •Despite the fact that their LIVE videos are superior to the official studio MV"s the latter are excellent. Funny, graphic, innovative and stunningly beautiful works of art describe what you get with BandMaid's official MV's. •As close to the Beatles in terms of unique persona of the members as any group since the Monkees. MISA is quiet and drinks. Akane is happy and eats, Miku is klutzy and CUTE, Kanami is an airhead who crushes on Saiki and Saiki was the Ice Queen. But the Ice Queen has thoroughly thawed. See Yokohama's Endless Story! Their image is carefully crafted or spontaneous or both. •Many songs have catch phrases or singalong sections to engage the audience. Many songs are in English and Japanese.Most songs are full of joy as well. •They're having a ball. They enjoy performing. They enjoy the fans. They enjoy each other. •Make no mistake, this is not a regular band.

A little correction: it's made by a company named "Black Smoker". I believe she switched to them in 2016? The model here is a Beta-J5, but she also got her own signature Beta-JMB5. There's also a couple other models in her BS-collection a Jazz-style 5 string and a SG-style. When mentioning Killer, I know Saki (x-nemophila) and Akira Takasaki (loudness) use their guitars.

Great reaction COM8E! For the first 60 seconds of your reaction you seemed like you were almost in pain to put a band on your channel consisting of Japanese women in maid outfits. You were basically apologizing in advance! Then the video started…BOOM! Not everybody gets BAND-MAID, but BAND-MAID hits some people like a ton of bricks! Always love watching someone's Maiden voyage - and you really haven't even scratched the surface yet. There are so many different songs by them you have to check out ☝ On 5th of July (my birthday) they will release a new song "Protect you" that is the ending theme of "Grandizer U". They do songs for anime from time to time, but that's not their main thing: Band Maid brings back the rock music of the 80s and 90s and is as close to the fans as possible. They are really connected to each other and the fans .... you can see and feel their fun on stage. That's why LIVE is most of the time better 😀 There are so many other bangers, most of them must be seen LIVE. You can react to the official live videos without any problems. They are great! Try "Domination" or "Freedom" for the start. Both must be enjoyed LIVE. More hard rock songs are "Moratorium" and "Real existence" (also LIVE) 🎸🥁🎤 Band Maids history (more than 10 years now) is a journey of great songs and live performances. You were smiling after only a few seconds of hearing Band-Maid for the first time. That is a pretty common reaction to hearing one of the best bands on this planet. They really shine in a live situation and there are plenty of official live videos on their KZbin channel which will prove that fact. The black bass guitar that you liked is a custom 5 string Black Smoker made by Black Cloud for Misa (Barefoot Assassin). She has a few others from the same company. Some song suggestions for you are Moratorium, No God, Rinne, Onset, From Now On, Without Holding Back, About Us, Play, Why Why Why, Clang, Endless Story, and both versions (live and video) of Don't You Tell Me. Since you like anime you should check out their Unleash!!!!! video which starts out as anime then switches to real life and eventually finishes in anime form. They have a catalog of over one hundred great songs. If you are not fond of one then choose another because it will be much different than the one before it and the next one to follow. Glad you picked the MV for this one. It's the only song I would recommend over the live, but JUST barely. Nice reaction. You can frame forward or backward in KZbin. Pause, and then (comma) for frame backward, and (period) for frame forward. That way, you can pick up on that beautiful custom Black Smoker bass, played by Misa, the barefoot assassin. (keep watching them, you'll understand later)

Thanks for the reaction and comments. Give credit where credit is due. A huge shoutout to Roger Chance for spreading the good word! These ladies are arguably the best live rock band on the planet. They don't fit neatly into any particular genre, per se. Keep listening and you'll see that they're their own genre. Check out Shambles, Blooming, Dice, Influencer, From Now On (all MVs) or if you really want your mind blown, check out their many official live videos. Great reaction to Band-Maid. It's hard to recommend just one. They write and compose their own music (since the production of "Alone" which was on their third album) and employ multiple genres, so everyone has different favorites. They have lots of great MV's like this one (Influencer or Blooming and many more, but what's great about Band-Maid is their passion for live performances (Domination, Onset, Freedom or Hate?). They also have Acoustical, Instrumental and Ballads.

Thank you for reacting to Band-Maid, the greatest hardrock band ever to exist. Warning is the opening song on their last full album Unseen World. I would suggest a few other songs from the same album, No God, After Life, Manners, Black Hole. From those songs you will get their full spectrum from bluesy hardrock to heavy speed metal. I would also suggest a few from their latest EP Unleash, Unleash!!!!!, From Now On, Hate? Or you may react to one of their latest singles, Shambles. No matter what you react to by Band-Maid, you can't go wrong, they don't have any bad songs 🙂 If you ever get the chance to see them live, just do it, they are even better live than on the studio recordings.

The next one should be 'Domination' LIVE or 'Hate?'. That is the Black Smoker 5 String Bass by Black Cloud. But you closed your eyes and missed the giant explosion. If you like anime they appear in anime form in 'Unleash'. They also have some anime theme song commissions. 'Glory' for Yu-Gi-Oh VRAINS and 'Shambles' for the Netflix anime 'Kengen Ashura. However you can't just play guitar by wishing for it. You have to practice too.

@@COM8EReacts Here you go Sir. Band Maid was started in 2013 by Miku Kobato. At the time she had just left the Idol Group, Lil Cumin and she didn't like the type of music she had been performing. She approached her management agency with the idea of making an actual band playing rock music but dressed as maids. She had worked in a Maid Cafe and thought the image of maids playing rockin music would create what she called "The Gap" between what you see and what you hear. The Management company was like Ok, go ahead. Miku then looked around and found Kanami a singer/songwriter who was posting her own videos on the internet. Miku had her agency contact her and Kanami thought the idea was cool and agreed to join. Miku then asked if Kanami knew a drummer who might be interested. Kanami had worked with Akane in the past and there is 2 versions of this, the first is, Kanami literally walked over to Akane's apartment and asked her, the second is Kanami called Akane and asked her. (Akane has said in 2 different interviews that 1: Kanami called her and asked if she could come over and 2: in a second interview Kanami just came over) Akane was actually hesitant as she had worked in an "All Girl Group" before and didn't enjoy it as it wasn't the type of music she wanted to play. After hearing a Demo, Akane was like ok, but was still slightly hesitant because of the "Maid Outfits", but she agreed to give it a try. Akane was asked if she knew a bass player and she had gone to Tokyo School of Music with MISA and had worked a couple of jobs with her. So Misa was contacted and after she heard a demo she was like I like the music, but she also was hesitant about the "Maid Outfits", but she relented and joined in as she really wanted to play the kind of music she heard in the demo. The 3 of them then "Auditioned" for the record company and passed the audition. Now we have the "Core" members. The 4 members worked out some songs provided for them by the record company, and a setlist and they had performed 3 times with just Miku on main vocals. Miku after those performances felt that her voice wasn't powerful enough to really perform the songs she wanted. So she approached her management company again and asked if they had any singers who weren't in other projects. They then auditioned several singers. Miku heard Saiki rehearsing in a room across the hall and asked if she could be auditioned, the record company then had Saiki audition. Saiki was signed to the same management company and had done some work as a backup singer and dancer and was asked if she would be interested in auditioning for this new group which currently had 4 members and she would be the fifth. She had been a member of a group with 8 other people as a backup singer and dancer, and HATED it. So she listened to the demo and thought "Cool" because she liked the music. Now we come to the tricky part. Miku KNEW that if Saiki was told about the "Maid Outfits" she would say NO WAY!, so they didn't tell her. They told her they would have "Cool/cute Clothes"(I've read it translated either way), and she never met Miku until a few days before they had a contracted performance. She wasn't told about the "Maid Outfits" until the day before the performance, and she had considered backing out, but she had signed the contract. (Saiki also had NEVER met Miku until then as well) So the Ladies, went and did the performance and Saiki really, REALLY liked the crowds reaction and the music they were performing. She DIDN'T like the apron she wore so it got ditched after the first performance. And you now have the beginnings of the BEST LIVE HARD ROCK BAND in the WORLD! ALL HAIL BAND MAID!!!!! Now that we have the Full band, it was felt that there needed to be a second guitar. Saiki was like, "Not Me, No Way." So Miku said, "I'll do it.", at first that was literally all she did, was hold the guitar and mime playing it, until Akane said, if you are going to hold it, you NEED to learn to play it. And Miku said, "Ok.", and Kanami started to teach Miku how to play. The Ladies released their first album in 2014 "Maid in Japan" which failed to chart, but later after "Thrill" it was reissued and charted to #26 in Japan. Then in 2015 they released "New Beginning" On New Beginning was the song that changed Band Maid's entire existence. "Thrill"... The band was getting ready to release their first music video and the choice was between "Love, Passion, Matador" and "Thrill" and the ladies chose Thrill. (Little known fact, Miku helped with the lyrics on Thrill but did not get credited) This became the seminal moment of Band Maid. Because their second album charted at #64, the record company was seriously considering disbanding the Ladies and switching them to other projects. (In fact they had Kanami and Akane work with Mochi to Cheese thinking that when Band Maid cratered they could use them in another band. MISA had also just started working with Mochi to Cheese as well). However about 6 months after the video's release, a Facebook page "JRock Radio" posted the video to their timeline. And the video went viral. Having over a million views in just a few short weeks. The Ladies Twitter page got so many hits they thought their page had been hacked. Their KZbin channel also started getting more and more subscribers and views to Thrill. Now the ladies knew where their fans wanted them to go. Harder Rock, less pop. And history was Maid. That's right but this one is great as an OMV. The live version is also great but does not add much more to the song (IMHO), same with Shambles or Influencer. But most of the times I also would prefer LIVE versions from the official Band Maid channel 😀

Definitely. This video ("Warning"), "Unleash" and a few others (Shambles, Bubble, Influencer, From now on) are worth watching as MVs, while many other songs from Band Maid LIVE are simply better because you can see and feel their fun on stage and often add new song elements (Freedom, Domination, Corallium, Moratorium, Real Existence, Play, Endless Story, Manners, etc.)

This is rock with strong punk element. And careful when you relate Band-Maid with anime. Some fans get instantly offended. I think people in your generation tend to associate their music with anime, not just them but all rock and metal bands from Japan. I'm not a huge anime-music fan, and always thought their actual anime songs are a bit too "different" and in my days it was called music - 😂 shows my age.

Well, this one IS great 😆Some songs are great while watching the official MVs (like this one, Shambles or Influcencer). Other songs are way better live (official live videos) because they play harder, show their joy for playing on stage and add some additional elements to their songs (Domination, Real Existence, Corallium, ...)
