Those one or two main riffs are SO good, I just want to hear them repeated all day. It's one of the heaviest riffs in history -- and so hypnotic.

There is a story in or about every Sabbath song. They were so groundbreaking. More than ever I appreciate the space in their music.

Great job! An excellent reaction to this classic! I loved it! Excellent catch by you about the Tribulations reference. Both Geezer Butler (lyrics) and Tony (not Tommy) Iommi were raised Catholic, and this often comes through in Geezer's lyrics. The beginning guitar that you were thinking might be bass was actually the lead guitar with a cool heavy tone that Iommi (eye-OWE-me) came up with. The great loud bass kicked in shortly after the riff was started.

I always find myself concentrating on Geezer during Tony's solo. Love that bass!

Geezer Butler who wrote most of the lyrics had been brought up as a devout catholic and many of Black Sabbaths lyrics reflect this.

Really enjoyed your comments. "Snowblind" and "Wheels of Confusion" are two more Black Sabbath songs that have great lyrics you could also check out. (Also "Hand of Doom", but it deals with heavy drug issues, so maybe get some input on that from one of your Patreons first). 🥰

The entire Master of Reality album has a lot of Christian undertones. I am not religious myself but how it is presented in this album makes sense and is quite chilling when you attach it to society today. I was introduce to Black Sabbath though this album when I was around 14 years old. That would put around 1978.

They have in that album what is literally a heavy metal gospel song with "After Forever" -- straight up in-your-face preaching hahaha. I'm an atheist and heavily disagree with the overall religious and supernatural aspects of their lyrics, but the instrumentals? Always on point, and one can always reinterpret the meaning of the songs that are less clear about it (which is what I do), making them into metaphors that just happen to use Christian dressing/terminology.

Interesting commentary. Well done, thanks.

The funny thing about Black Sabbath is that everyone thinks they are Devil worshippers yet most of their songs are about love, good triumphing over evil or mentioning someone or something ominous in the 3rd person (like the song Black Sabbath). Do Children Of The Grave from the same album and you will see what I’m talking about. Just stumbled on your channel today. 👍

That was great. I never got into Black Sabbath much until lately, through another artist who names that band as one of his greatest influences. Maybe "War Pigs" or "Children of the Grave" next?

For me Black Sabbath is the only heavy metal band. Everyone who attempted heavy metal after them is a facsimile of this immortal group. I could never get into any other heavy metal group after Black Sabbath.

I have to say I was lucky I found Judas Priest in the mid 70's to add to the amazing music of my youth.
