@Dat_Ruski Жыл бұрын
What I find beautiful is that even though the first half was funny and seemingly unrelated, it was also a metaphor for how he felt as a performer. He gained popularity too fast, he had more than he could handle, and he would have cut back if he knew it would make him feel this way. Bo really is a genius.

I LOVED watching you laugh at this. Also, you're the first person I've seen comment on his excellent crowd control when he made everybody put their hands up, making them feel that connection with the Pringles dilemma. 🙂
@travisbille3349 Жыл бұрын
I always saw this as him saying his temporary goodbye. I feel like people act like he left this show and then decided to take time off. But this was him straight up telling us “I can’t handle this right now” like he’s overwhelmed and needs to step back and take care of his own health. Nobody told him the burrito might get too full. So he’s taking some stuff out to make it fit.
@R3F1C Жыл бұрын
i have never seen someone making the connection with the burrito as a metaphor of his life, but it fits too perfectly. wow
@frankcayseron8637 Жыл бұрын
@@R3F1C everything in this skit was metaphor to his life even pringles can. "i can't handle this right now" > Pringles CAN, he CANT put his HAND inside the pringles CAN. CANT HANDLE. He wants a daughter cause she would be small enough to put her hands in pringles can > when he was younger he was able to handle this but now that he is grown up he cant handle this anymore. burito is the metaphor for all the things he wish he didnt do, all the songs he made that now that he is grown up he understands were wrong and the part about "burito expert" not telling him about it is metaphor for all the people who just cheered him on instead of educating him how wrong it is to say things he did. He realized he can get away with anything as long he can make it funny and for a long time he was pushing the boundaries to see how much he can get away with not realizing what he was doing is putting himself in position where he dont know how to properly live as all he knows is pushing that boundary. When it finally caught up to him he was not prepared to deal with it which is why he COULDNT HANDLE IT. and why he needed long break to fix up his life... and then covid came and gave his mental health a wedgie :(

Massive Bo Burnham fan who came here because of that. Your video rocked, and ill be checking out more of your content because i like your style. As for what was going on with him, if you don't know, that was his last song before he left the industry for years. The burrito was a metaphor for his life and fame and it was just all too much for him. At that point, he was regularly having panic attacks on stage and people didn't realize because he was such a good comic. Knowing that context makes this song even more emotional when he lets it out at the end because "i hope you're happy" has a dual meaning of genuine or sarcastic, and he's said in interviews that from night to night of the tour, it meant one or the other.

It's interesting because the whole structure of the beginning of the joke -the song, is mocking Kanye West for these unhinged rants he started having at the end of his shows, which today we now know that Kanye West, regardless as to how you feel about him or what he's said in public recently, was experiencing a massive mental decline. But then at the end of the song he's Empathizing with Kanye, and the kind of feelings all performers have that can warp them in an unhealthy way. Bo says the quiet thing out loud. A lot of people and especially youtubers who clickbait this reaction as like "Bo trolls Kanye", espcially with the topical nature of Kanye's mental health over the past year from a political perspective. So it was refreshing to see you approach and react to this at face value and focus more on the meaning than a lot of the other content creators do.

i LOVE the layers to this song. bo burnham acknowledges that he’s a white man and cannot fathom understanding the complexities that a black man in this country faces so instead he shows that his “problems” are simple things like pringles cans and chipotle burritos; he simultaneously pokes fun at kanye for being surface level (complaining about his 90$ tshirts not selling properly) at times, not understanding how lucky he is to be where he’s at financially, comparatively to the rest of the world, in life similarly to bo being in privilege because his worries are minuscule compared to kanye’s

I believe the entire bit is about his relation to fame. The back half is obvious in that he sacrifices himself for the audience, but if you try to tie it all together I think he believes that like the pringles can he thought fame would bring him what was missing but he can't reach it still. With the chipotle same idea.... fame brought all of these aspects that he didn't foresee and don't fit with his idea of true happiness. And now he's stuck. Stuck with this tremendous burden of fame that he really thought would make him happy but he finds himself stuck in a terrible trap of his own doing.
