2:26 no but literally when I was 3 years old I would wake up at like 6 am. And I would put in a dvd into my tiny tv and watch movies all day. I knew to be quiet and I always had the volume at 1 or 2 percent. But ig since it was really quiet bc I was the only one up and our walls are thin, my dad could still hear me. So he made a rule. I couldn’t turn on the tv until 8 am. I would still wake up early but I would just entertain myself until like 7:58 and I would turn the tv on and put in the dvd and wait until 8 am. (I waited until 8:01 am just incase) and I could hear my dad groan. But he didn’t do anything about it, because I followed the rule. To the word. Then my older brother introduced me to KZbin on his computer. That ended up being a mistake bc I would now still wake up early but I would go into his room and watch KZbin videos. And it would sooner or later, wake him up. And ig he complained to our parents enough times that they got me an Apple TV so now I could watch dvd movies and KZbin and Netflix, as long as I stayed in my room. (I still had to follow the 8 am rule).

5:19 I was like this too, with Adult Swim. The shift between Cartoon Network and Adult Swim was so jarring to me, but I couldn't stop watching it. I'd even turn the brightness down on my CRT when my mom got up to use the bathroom so she couldn't see the light under the door. Good times.

Parents had satellite but went to bed early. HBO, Showtime, Cinemax, my adolescence was set. Not to mention I had an older TV in my room that if you adjusted the cords just right you could get the adult channels to stream for 10-15 mins uncensored before they updated the signal. In a pre-internet world it was perfect.

I remember when tv only had the 3 networks and PBS. They signed off at midnight. But my two older brothers found SNL - original cast and Monty Pythons Flying Circus. They didn't notice me at the top of the staircase watching as well. We are talking I was under 10.

The fact that Television could switch to adult programming at a specific time, was because all the responsibility for the child was placed on its parents. As a parent, it is YOUR responsibility to make sure your child does not watch something you do not want it to watch. Not the TV station's responsibility. I miss that about the old days...

I miss late night TV from the 90s. Here in Canada, we got everything. Friday Nights Without Borders was definitely a thing. It was one raunchy show after another until you got to 11 o’clock when the 2 hour naughty movie would come on. My dad was abusive and very conservative, so it was my one way of feeling like a normal teenage guy. 50 Shades of Grey could hold my ginger ale. We had incredible stuff, some entirely from the female perspective. I went to a religious school for 2 years and all the guys were watching it. There was next to nothing on the internet yet compared to today, so Friday nights were our night. The 90s were awesome.
