An orphan girl from a foster family is married off (most likely, to a man older than her and not of her own free will). She comes to the river (reka), affectionately calling it rechenka. The river in the folklore of many peoples is the border between the world of the living and the dead. She turns to her deceased parents: she asks for advice and blessings. An orphan girl is faced with a choice - to drown herself, committing the sin of suicide, or still accept the circumstances and "go with the flow". What will she choose? This is decided by the audience together with the performer of this song.

I hope the both of you understand that the "Shaman" you refer to is a singer with shamanistic aspirations in his name and that shamanism is actually (according to Wikipedia) "... a religious practice that involves a practitioner interacting with what they believe to be a spirit world through altered states of consciousness, such as trance." She really makes you question what is a singing voice... i am a simple man and i cringe when i read exaggerations like "this is the best" "Out of this world" "excellence" "one of a kind", but come on i can not deny what is in front of my eyes and what i am listening... If it was one instance you could call it chance but she does this again and again and again every single time. I mean i have hit a state where i am spoiled for ever... i can not even listen to a other artists without thinking "yeah ok.. but what if Diana had sang this..." As for your reaction it is completely understandable everyone is the same, even vocal teachers start their videos by trying to analyze her voice but they all come to a point where they just can not continue anymore how can you break down a thing you have never heard of before?

.........this performance is especially poignant, as Diana was abandoned as a child and raised in a Russian orphanage ........Her adoptive Mum used singing and voice lessons to help Diana overcome the trauma of her earliest years.......Diana is a natural Contralto which, as you know, is the lowest female vocalist's register....this performance alone should make us all recognize and appreciate the talent of performers from the "world music" genre

The part about the horses in the yard just means that there are a lot of people gathered at the celebration, but nobody who can "give her away" in the traditional sense. That creepy whisper was the voice of her deceased mother, and the yodeling part was her weeping.

There were 9 singers who were also the judges and critiqued each other. There were 9 genres of music they had to perform over the course of the show. Thus Diana sang in many different styles.
