Thank you so much for reacting to Dreamcatcher they're such an unappreciated group and the face of rock in kpop. They actually have 7 members: JiU, SuA, Siyeon, Handong, Yoohyeon, Dami & Gahyeon. 6 Koreans and 1 Chinese but the Chinese member (Handong) was absent during this period of promotions due to her schedules in China and then Covid happened and she could't return during it. Their tittle tracks are always very rock and metal sounding but their B-sides have many different sounds. Scream is the title track of their first full length album and the start of their "Dystopia" trilogy, which talks about cyber-bullying and such. The next after this is "Boca" and then "Odd Eye" where Handong finally returned.

To get to know the members please check out the "This is ___ series "(2020/2021/2022) by "insomnicsy" here on KZbin. It's fun to watch. This is the best fan made content you'll find (includes parts of vlives, etc. with english translations). There is also a great video called "Dodging Disbandment and Other Extreme Sports: A History of Dreamcatcher" by "mera". Dreamcatcher Mind from their official channel is also highly recommended (Playlist: kzbin.info/aero/PLmNaKWy1cIoF57e1tG9BTdbHv1sOIGllr). They are talented, funny, chaotic and caring. In the end you just have to love these woman.

Welcome to the Dreamworld! Dreamcatcher are very unique. They are the dark angels of Kpop and the only girl group who consistently incorporate Rock and Metal in their title tracks, fusing that with Kpop into something that basically is a new genre. They also are drenched in horror and social criticism, which again is special. Plus, they are massively talented, all of them. And while the girls look like they could rip out your spine when they are on stage, off stage they are adorable crackheads. 😉 Scream is part 1 of the Dystopia trilogy, which is about cyber-bullying, hateful comments and people losing themselves in the (fake) online world. It is mostly showing the victim's perspective of (cyber)bullying, comparing it to a medieval witch hunt and a burning at the stake. The tree is the tree of language, and it grows black fruit for every hurtful thing people say. Note also the hand gesture, it is the devil's horns introduced by Ronnie James Dio as a symbol for metal, but it originally was a gesture in the middle ages to ward off the evil eye, tying into the witch hunt theme. I really enjoy the music, it's rock mixed with EDM. Dreamcatcher are always very creative, and they are in their own genre by this point. Yes, there are 7 members. Their Chinese member, Handong, was missing for Scream and Boca though because she participated in a show in China and got stuck there when Covid hit. She makes a triumphant return in Odd Eye.

It's meant to be witchy! 😊 The title of the album Scream is on is "Dystopia: The Tree of Language" (it's the first part of the Dystopia trilogy, which you already knew, the album BOCA is on is "Dystopia: Lose Myself" and Odd Eye's album is "Dystopia: Road to Utopia"). So the tree is the "Tree of Language" (there are some hints to this in the MV, of floating symbols around JiU's scene with the fire, and there seem to be red letters all over the boxes at 13:17, which I suppose is meant to be inside of the tree). Like the intro said, "people forgot how to say good things". More and more people start using their words for evil, and it is starting to corrupt the Tree of Language. That is the explanation the members themselves have given. Dreamcatcher are trying to save the tree throughout the trilogy. The Dystopia trilogy is about the power of hateful words and especially cyber-bullying. The masks represent people who hide behind the anonymity of the internet as they attack others and spread hate. 13:35 They're all pointing at her because in Scream, they are likening online hate to witch hunts. ("a random target of increasing harted"?) Scream, BOCA and Odd Eye all take place in different time periods. This way they're also showing that these hateful words aren't necessarily anything new, but it's also not getting better. In the lyrics, they first portray the role of the victim "Please I don't want to scream" but near the end, they start to fight back and take up the role of the protector "I just want to make you scream" which continues into BOCA. I don't know if you've watched BOCA already by the time you uploaded this, but if you haven't, I really recommend selecting the "English UK" subtitles for the video. Not only does it have the names, it's a much better translation. The regular "English" subtitles are very clunky and don't make a lot of sense sometimes.

There are 7 members in dreamcatcher but there's only 6 members in this mv Handong MY BIAS!!! is missing from scream and Boca she returns in Odd Eye the dancer wearing the white/ black mask covering there entire face dancing with the other members in Mv and stage and dance performances it's ment to represent Handong she was away in 2019 on a Chinese idol competition show "Youth with You" and then covid hit and she got stuck in China due to travel restrictions 😔 and in Odd Eye Dance Video Handong removes her mask.

Dami, with the deep rap voice, is the main rapper; she also has a beautiful singing voice though, but you rarely hear it in their title tracks. She can actually go pretty high as well, she's really an all-rounder even though it might not seem so at first (she's also a lead dancer). The one who first rapped in the second verse, where she was holding the mask, is Gahyeon, the maknae, she's a lead rapper but unfortunately doesn't rap too often, the only title tracks where she has real rap verses are Scream, BOCA and PIRI. The one with the sword was SuA, the main dancer. They aren't as involved in their songwriting and composing as I-DLE are (but almost no one is 😉), but Dami has been writing some lyrics since their earlier days. JiU, the leader (purple hair here) with the soft angelic voice (one of the lead vocals along with Yoohyeon, who is blonde here) has written and composed some b-sides before, specifically "Dear" (wrote all the lyrics) and "alldaylong" (helped compose and write) are considered to be "her" songs, but she helped with a couple others as well. On their second full album, "Apocalypse: Save Us", each member had a solo song, for which they were involved in the writing and composing. For SuA, Yoohyeon, and Gahyeon, that was their first time, I think. Siyeon and Handong both had a solo song before, for which they wrote their own lyrics. I think some of the members are interested in being more involved in the future as well, especially Dami is interested in composing and producing, from what I know. Yoohyeon and Dami did a cover of IU's "Palette" together, and in the special clip it also looks like they were involved in producing that one. Compared to I-DLE, it's not nearly as much, but they're an amazing group either way 😊

Scream, is part of a three song trilogy called the Dystopia Series (subsequent songs are Boca and Odd Eye) is a commentary against online hatred, malicious comments, cyber bullying etc. In Scream, the imagery of an medieval traditional witch hunt (lyrics such as hands bound, stones thrown, burn under the fire etc, and choreography of surrounding someone pointing at a single person) is used to symbolized such online "witch hunt" which take place today where faceless anonymous people (theme of a mask used throughout the series) just post malicious comments and rumors just to hurt people and perhaps watch the world burn. The tree is part of the Dystopia series overarching storyline and message which they attempt to convey. The tree is suppose to be the "Tree of Language" (title of the album), which one day become corrupted due to people forgetting to say good things and start saying "bad words" (or the alternative theory is that the tree just become corrupted and people start saying bad words). Hence, the plot is how they try to revive the tree in the subsequent songs. Also, another fun fact is that the devil horn sign (used often in rock music and in the MV) is made popular by James Dio of Black Sabbath. He explained that it was inspired by his grandmother which she used it to ward off the evil eye (which is known in Italy as malocchio) although some anti-rock/metal conservatives twisted it to claim that it is the sign of the devil. Anyway, in the MV, it is used as a symbol to ward of the impending evil (i.e. malicious comments).

Okay, this is just the beginning This group is so good in so many aspects, that you will fall in love with them. Their tittle songs are always bad ass, their b sides amazing and very different from their titles, they have tried so many different genders of music and they fit perfectly. Great reaction to Dreamcatcher. Dreamcatcher is a unique girl group who has become somewhat of a groundbreaker for the K-pop genre, their blend of rock/metal and pop is a forbidden fruit in their industry. The songs that their composers write about dive deep into ongoing issues or problems we face in normal life, for example in Scream this was the start of the Dystopia trilogy for them which touched on hate and bullying. Scream shows the consequences of hate and that one should not sit and take the punishment. Further into the trilogy Boca and Odd Eye talk more about the issues with hate or cyberbullying. Dreamcatcher is a 7-member group, however in Scream and Boca their only foreign member Handong who is Chinese was stuck in China doing a survival show for idols, she ended up getting stuck in China after Covid accorded and wasn't able to promote with the Dreamcatcher for over 2 years until she returned a little bit before Odd Eye.
