Elvis calls for "Release Me" but the piano player, Glen Hardin started "I Can't Stop Loving You". Really, it's an amazing job and great performance by Elvis to adjust on the fly. At one point, you can see one of the backups catching the mistake. It's all in good fun. Elvis loved and appreciated all the musicians in his band.

Hey sweetheart , I saw ELVIS for the first time in 1972, so this just takes me back to the best day of my life, I was only 11 but I was already in love with Elvis since age of 5, loving your kind words about ELVIS , we all thank you for sharing your thoughts about this beautiful man,, I'm not sure if you have reacted to Elvis singing Just Pretend. Yet, it You've Lost That Loving Feeling , both in 1970, both of these are My husband favorite Elvis songs, he didn't start. I’ve seen the beginning of this clip, where you hear him call for, “Release Me”. He immediately recognized the different opening, makes that humorous look at the band, then he goes right into the song perfectly. That jumpsuit is awesome. It wasn’t until recent years of YT, I realized how many jumpsuit versions he had! Thanks to Kathy, and to you for a great reaction.

What happened there with the water...just in case you're curious...Elvis said to the band, "Please Release Me". He wanted them to play the song "Release Me," but Glen Hardin on the piano played the intro to "I Can't Stop Loving You" instead. So Elvis sang that one instead, but was teasing Glen for playing the wrong song and threw his water at him. That's why he has that look on his face too when he sings the first line when he looks at the backup singers and shakes his head :)

You missed the very beginning when he called out Please Release Me but they started playing I Can't Stop Loving You -- that is why he playfully threw the water over onto Glen -- how about backing up to the very, very beginning to hear him say Please Release Me!! Now that will make more sense. But there is a version that does not include that beginning so if this version doesn't have it, go to kzbin.info/www/bejne/gn_XgWh9mZ2Efac . Also notice he looked over w-a little annoyance @ beginning. Yes, the suit was a beautiful light blue. When you started the video I didn't hear elvis say please release me that was the song the band was supposed to sing but the band started playing I can't stop loving you and you see elvis look like he's a little annoyed at first but he went right with it and performed it well but I love when he threw the water on the guy in the band... Cathy -- interesting how few people are even aware of this song, or of Hampton all together -- i'm always pushing for people to play it because it just happens to be great -- but then i think Hampton in general is wonderful; unfortunately, most people don't catch that very beginning; fortunately Eric & Rory both uploaded it & were very glad they did & got very good responses; it's something people should not overlook, obviously, because he was that good
