Mamamoo really feels different to other girlgroups in my opinion. And they had a tough start as they were told they weren’t pretty enough and stuff like that. Hwasa once got hate for not wearing a bra at the airport so the next time she showed up with just a bra. Queen! You should definitely check out a guide at some point. Introducing Mamamoo by Purple Hawke is a really great one, it has two parts. Some of my favorite songs are: Starry night, Aya, Egotistic, gogobebe and Wind Flower You should also check out their Killing Voice video, it really shows how good they are live. Thanks for checking out PIXY! They are absolutely fantastic. And a crazy thing about Villain and Reborn album is that their main vocalist, Ella, has been on hiatus for this comeback due to health issues. And despite that, the album is sublime. The other members carried everything so, so well. But we'll still be very happy when Ella is able to return. Since you enjoyed Villain, you should definitely check out the rest of their stuff! They have lore, and it's very well done (and one of the rappers, Satbyeol [edit - who's the one you really liked in Villain] has a big hand in it's creation. Honestly, they have a no-skip discography that is criminally underheard. Amazing production and vocal talent. I'd be happy to drop you a road map of their m/v's if you're interested.

Thank you for liking MAMAMOO!! Would like to say that they are really big on using their songs and lyrics to empower not just women, but anyone who listens to their songs. They are very involved in their songs, not just in the lyrics, but also in the MVs, their outfits (they are all involved in keeping their individuality but still very harmonious in the group, just like a family), and everything they do. Them in their songs and MVs are not acts, it is just who they are. Many thinks that MAMAMOO is about being Girl Grush, but they do not do that as a concept, it is just how they are, and they are also cute, playful, random, and one, if not the most, chaotic group (or I should say one of the original chaotic group) in KPOP. Many of the things that are seen as normal and accepted in KPOP groups are initially done by MAMAMOO. Whatever they do are seen are normal and just them, so no one blinked an eye anymore at what they did (e.g. MMM wearing Tellytubby outfits to an official end of year award show when the theme was Winter Wonderland. Everyone just thought that was just MAMAMOO being MAMAMOO. But it was actually because MMM got the wrong memo, they were told that the theme was cosplay or something like that...) Also, MAMAMOO was the first group to eat on stage during encore performance after they got first for their song (they promised the fans that they would eat ramyeon on stage if they got first), all the other groups were surprised and fascinated when they saw staff bringing 2 bowls of ramyeon to them. I think that started making it acceptable by the general public and KPOP groups to also do challenges like eating ice cream and other food on their own encore stages (some e.g. are by Twice, GFriend, RedVelvet).

Since other people already talked about Mamamoo and Pixy, I'll talk about the other 3 groups. aespa (pronounced espa) is a 4-member girl group under SM Entertainment that consists of Karina, Giselle, Winter, and Ningning. The group is made up of 2 Korean members, 1 Jap-Kor member, and 1 Chinese member. They made their debut in November 2020 and are currently SM's newest group. aespa have an extensive lore/storyline that begins with their debut song "Black Mamba" followed up by SM Culture Universe Ep 1, Next Level, Savage, SM Culture Universe Ep 2, and Girls (SMCU Ep 3 coming soon!). The SMCU episodes are basically mini movies/short films that help the audience grasp a better understanding of their worldview/lore. Their debut was highly anticipated, and they did big numbers, but they hit it even bigger with the release of Next Level. It became a national hit and was even briefly banned during South Korea's college entrance exam period because it was too catchy for students to concentrate lol. You might be wondering why a song getting banned is considered a good thing, well it's because that means the song was highly popular and the last time this happened with an SM group was way back in 2009. aespa's popularity was through the roof and they managed to achieve an ultimate rookie grand slam. An "ultimate rookie grand slam" is basically when a group wins all major "Best new artist"/"Rookie of the Year" awards at all major Korean music award shows. They were the first group in their respective Kpop generation to do this. The whole "Kpop generation" is something to explain for another time. Currently aespa has been at the top of their game and have become one of the biggest girl groups in Kpop. They recently broke the record for the highest sales achieved by ANY girl group album with 1.6 million sales (a very big achievement for a brand-new girl group). Though, if I'm being realistic, this record will be broken very soon. Blackpink is a 4-member girl group under YG Entertainment that consists of Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa. The group is made up of 3 Korean members (1 being Australian) and 1 Thai member. They made their debut in August 2016 with their single album, Square One, which featured the tracks Boombayah and Whistle. Though YG Entertainment has had girl groups in the past, they are currently YG's only active girl group. Blackpink is the most successful Korean girl group internationally and have often been dubbed the "biggest girl group in the world." by different outlets, but most recently they were given that title by The Recording Academy (the ones responsible for the Grammy Awards). Blackpink have broken numerous records throughout their career. They are the highest-charting female Korean act of all time, and they were the first Korean girl group to sell more than a million copies on one album. The members have also ventured into the fashion industry and all of them are house ambassadors for luxury brands (which can be seen throughout their music videos). One member, Lisa, even made her runway debut. 3 out of the 4 members have released successful solo music and 2 members have ventured into acting. Jisoo, was the lead actress in the Disney+ original K-drama Snowdrop and most recently Jennie, was revealed to be taking part in the upcoming American drama "The Idol" starring The Weeknd and Lily-Rose Depp. Blackpink had been on hiatus for a little over 2 years, which in Kpop standards is a LONG time. Recently they announced the release of their newest song/album and it's the most anticipated release this year. The music video teasers alone have gotten 5-10 million views in the first 24 hours, some artists don't even get that on their official music releases. Just because of how anticipated their comeback is, I'm pretty sure they'll be the ones breaking aespa's album sales record. And I don't say this to be shady towards aespa (they're actually my favorite group), but I say it because there's no denying how big Blackpink is. Twice is a 9-member girl group under JYP Entertainment that consists of Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Momo, Sana, Jihyo, Mina, Dahyun, Chaeyoung, and Tzuyu. The group is made up of 5 Korean members, 3 Japanese members, and 1 Taiwanese member. They're currently the oldest of 3 active girl groups in JYP. They were formed through the reality television program, Sixteen and debuted in October 2015 with the song Like Ooh-Ahh and mini album, The Story Begins. Twice hit it big in 2016 with their single "Cheer Up", which charted at number one on the Gaon Digital Chart, became the best-performing single of the year, and won "Song of the Year" at the Melon Music Awards and Mnet Asian Music Awards. They made their Japanese debut in June 2017 with the release of their compilation album #Twice and have gone on to dominate the Japanese music market, becoming the first Korean girl group to embark on a Japanese dome tour. Twice has sold over 10 million albums cumulatively in South Korea and Japan, becoming the highest-selling K-Pop girl group of all time. Following their consecutive commercial successes in 2016 and 2017, Twice has since been dubbed by Korean media as the "Nation's Girl Group", being cited as a follow-up to previously successful girl groups Girls' Generation and Kara. In 2020, Twice became the K-pop girl group with the most music show wins totaling 106 wins as well as the fastest group to reach that number. The entertainment companies I mentioned above (SM, YG, JYP) are considered the top 3 Kpop entertainment agencies in Korea (though recently HYBE can be added to that list). This means that any group that comes out of these agencies are held at higher standards, and they're expected to be successful, regardless of music.

If you're looking for another 5 groups, I'd say go with Red Velvet - Bad Boy, Itzy - Wannabe, G-Idle - Latata, LOONA - PTT and for a new group try IVE - After Like. I really enjoyed your first time dive into female K-POP. Mamamoo was the group that got me into K-POP and I haven't looked back since. :) I'd say the order of my female group list goes: Mamamoo, G-Idle, LOONA, Red Velvet, Itzy, Twice and BlackPink. There is a one-shot supergroup called GOT The Beat that consists of 2 members of aespa, 2 members of Red Velvet, 2 members of Girl's Generation, and solo singer BoA. 4th, 3rd, 2nd, and 1st Generation SM idols, respectively. Their song "Step Back" might be a good introduction to the rest. While I'm more of a 2nd/3rd gen stan, two current groups I like are (G)i-dle (or just "I-dle" now) and Itzy. 3rd Gen (contemporary of Mamamoo, they're friends) Red Velvet never disappoints.

They are GREAT (I'm new to your channel so I don't really know if you have already reacted Dreamcatcher) Mamamoo and Dreamcatcher got me into kpop so I highly recommend to explore their music! Mamamoo just gives a different vibe compared to other gg, and Dreamcatcher...They are just unique.
