It’s so nice to see someone doing something other than “he stopped loving her today”. George has so many great songs that go back all the way to the 50s. White lightning is another one where he is having fun with the vocals and is another one of his big hits.
@Gutslinger
@Gutslinger Жыл бұрын
I've been saying something similar nearly everywhere I go. People sadly only seem to request "He Stopped Loving Her Today," I guess because it's his most recognized song. But I think a ton of his other songs are better. And then if it isn't that song, they request "Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes" when the reactor doesn't have a clue about the legends mentioned in that song, so they don't get the impact that those of us who are familiar with them do. So they end up thinking it's just a "meh" song.

@@gk5891 She probably wouldn't, because she's not familiar with their nicknames or specific hits, which the song mostly references. And she probably won't do the music video, which has visual aid to help you know who's being referenced.

Fun fact ; I drank beer with this man in Columbia TN years ago before he died & he was like anybody else you would meet at a bar. I was probably around 25. But I knew who he was. I remember cause I lost my job next day cause I didn't show up, LMAO. A song by him I would recommend would be Who's gonna fill there shoe's

Totally worth losing your job over. BTW, "Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes" is the most ironically self-referential song since Barry Mann sang "Who Put the Bomp" in 1961.

About 12 years ago when I was 18, I was dating a girl from Missouri, and she said she got to be in a room with him and other people, but she had no clue who he was at the time. I was flabbergasted, because he's one of my top favorite artists. She said her mom worked for Walmart, and helped take part in some kind of concert that Walmart would do, and that's how she saw him. The main thing that she seem to notice about him is that his hair looked thin at the top. She said she just thought that he was just some random old man. I was baffled and envious at the same time. Lol

George was my father’s favorite. This song was a radio hit in 1986-87 ish. He has some truly great ballads. I had a cassette tape I wore out in the mid 80’s with many of his hits. Great review. This one was a little different than other Vids. It had a Cajun beat to it. I listened to him on AM radio in my 53 Chevy, straight 6 with 3 on the tree, when he first release 'The Race IS ON' song and 'White Lightning' about his pappy cooking whiskey. I was just a young dude then. AM radio and 3 TV channels was all that was available. Thanks, kid. Those were great days.

If you get a chance try to listen to George Jones version of "The Race Is On" to get some more of his low range. George "The 'Possum" Jones has been called the greatest Country singer of all time. I can't argue with that. Some of his great ones are "The Grand Tour" - "Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes" and White Lightnin' I really appreciate your enthusiasm for this song.
