Story time, my very white mother and her second husband were the only white members of an all black church in Florida. She was in hospice and Sunday after church, the pastor and half the congregation came to her room, dressed in their Sunday best. The pastor had a fancy suit with cuff links, black and white shiny shoes, the ladies had colorful dresses with gloves and matching hats. We all held hands around her bed, the pastor said a prayer “and God bless sister Pay as she makes her way home”, then they sang Amazing Grace. They showed her so much love and kindness, it was beautiful.
