bobby is a counter-tenor, his high notes are natural and his actual voice not a falsetto where the high notes are forced. thats why it looks so effortless for bobby

The lyrics mean even more when you realize it was 1965 and the Vietnam War was in full swing. He is singing like a soldier in a fox hole with the horror of war all around and all he wants to know is if she still loves him. "I'll be coming home, wait for me."

He wasn’t the original singer but he was the best. This song was written in 1955 for a movie and had been covered, and been a hit for several other singers. Bobby made some changes to the original melody (the octave jump ‘I NEED your love’ at the end was one,) and the final crescendo in this version was not in his original studio version. Although that was G#5, it was no strain for him as his range was B2 to Eb6. Three and a half octaves on his recored work, although Bill commented they never really found out how high he could reach.😊

Any time Bobby sings is a treat but when he sings solo he knocks it outta the park. This clip is better than the studio recording which charted twice. Check out this heart throb singing My Prayer or even Summertime to name a few. Some of the Righteous Bother hits were You'll never walk alone, Rock and Roll Heaven, Soul and Inspiration and You've lost that Loving Feeling. Your reaction nailed it as they were dubbed 'blue eyed soul'. RIP Bobby Hatfield you are truly missed.

The original was from a film in prison in 1954. Bobby’s cover is up to now the best and considered standard and received a Grammy Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal in 1991 after he rerecorded 20 years later for the film Ghost

Fun fact about Bobby Hatfield, he was a sports hero in school, and in college he was being scouted to play pro baseball, but Bobby chose his music. And I notice that people are quick to point out the fact that he did cocaine, but don't add that Bobby had sever heart problems and was in a lot of pain. Bobby was a beautiful man with a beautiful soul and the best singing voice I have ever heard. He started a yearly golf tournment and the proceeds went to research for Lupus, which his wife had. I don' t know if his children has carried on with it since their mother has passed away as well. Bobbys music was magic, mesmerizing, addictive and he will never be forgotten!

No auto tune....its live...& he killed it!!! He makes it look so easy! I know right! lol. I almost forgot...Bobby had a cold when he sang this! They weren't real brothers...they just went by that name. They talk about it in the beginning how they got their name Righteous Brothers.

When The Righteous Brothers went into the recording studio to record an album, each of them (Bobby Hatfield and Bill Medley) would record one song sung solo. Both of them wanted to record “Unchained Melody”. They resolved the issue by a coin flip. Hatfield won the coin toss.

The song was done at least once before The Righteous Brothers did it. This is a LIVE performance. Look at the year-1965, No auto-tune, computer assisted tone quality enhancements. just talent. Elvis did this live in 1977. This man, Bobby Hatfield, has a full 3-octave tenor range, reaching highest soprano range, effortlessly. Bobby owns this song. They, the duo, were also referred to frequently as "blue-eyed soul". And, they are not brothers - Bobby Hatfield (RIP) and Bill Medley. You want to hear Bill Medley - listen to "You've lost that loving feeling". Then listen to "Soul and Inspiration" when they share the song. But the harmony of Bill's baritone and Bobby's tenor are supreme.

You get it...The Righteous Brothers are pure soulful talent & luckily there's so many of their songs to hear. I had no idea when I first heard them that they were from Orange County CA..only thought that was Beach Boys type of music country. You'll really enjoy listening & reacting to the songs the commentators here suggested. Also Bill Medley (dark haired baritone) sings lead on a blues song (no video) called "I Wanna Make Love To You" that's hot. Together they sing "You'll never Walk Alone" taped from the Ed Sullivan Variety TV show. They did solos on each album too. Your reaction was heart felt and glad I subscribed.

They were not the first ones to sing this song, neither was Elvis. The song was written in 1955 for a movie called “Unchained”. It was about a man in prison, thinking about trying to escape early so he could get home to his wife. The movie was a flop, but the song has been recorded by many, many different artists. Bobby is the best! This live version is even better than the studio version. Bobby does this solo because they had decided to do one solo on each album and flipped a coin to see who would sing it. Thank God that Bobby won!

The song "Unchained Melody" was written in 1955 by a white man, Alex North for a prison movie, "Unchained" and was sung by a black man, Mr. Todd Duncan who was the first original singer. As time went on the song was sung by six hundred and something singers in different languages and was the most popular song played in the US, Canada and throughout the UK. On July 13,1990 they came out with a movie called "Ghost" with Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore and Whoopi Goldberg and the song which was played was "Unchained Melody" that was sung by Mr. Bobby Hatfield of the Righteous Brothers cause he was the best singer that has ever sang it and that includes Elvis Presley. If you get the chance watch the movie too. I promise you that you will not be disappointed. And oh yeah, if you get the chance could you please play, "Too Much Heaven" by the Bee Gees? Their singing voices were excellent and the words of this beautiful romantic love song was too. Goodnight Darling. Thank you and God bless you. Adios.
